   This was a return visit for breakfast (24/12 last visit) and I was rather disappointed this time round. There was no avocado and we had to ask for butter to accompany our toast. I only received 1 slice of the GF toast to go with my Vegetarian Full English. I didn't feel that what we had delivered value for money.

   Busy night - but service was fine, waited a little longer than expected at times but nothing annoying about it. The beef Sunday roast was nice - typical roast Dessert was very disappointing when highlighted feedback was taken onboard. Overall it was a nice dining night.

   As always, wonderful food in a comfortable, welcoming setting and friendly, helpful staff. As well as the staple turkey, the Christmas menu offered a welcome range of choices.. the Camembert starter and the pork & beef mains were outstanding and refreshing with so many turkey dinners on the horizon in coming weeks.

   Food ok but expensive. However, the restaurant lacks ambience - it is a lovely building, and the bar area is great. The restaurant is too brightly lit and the service was ok but a bit lack lustre. Wonderful bar for a drink - great service there but restaurant does not mirror the bar experience.

    Fantastic food with great service. The menu offered a good variety of perfectly prepared. They were very attentive to a member of our party with food allergies. The wines were carefully selected. The atmosphere works for most occasions. It was British hospitality at its finest.

    Booked berry last minute and managed to get a table. Was lovely atmosphere, comfortable and welcoming. Waitress was lovely and food was very good.

    The White Horse has a good friendly feel with a nice bustle to it. They've assembled a really good team that adds to the experience. Easily as good as any place in Harpenden and will definitely keep going back

    An always excellent menu, with a range of dishes to excite carnivores and plant eaters alike. Specials are also regularly changed with good options on starters, mains and puds. Am also a fan of their wine list with a decent range available to buy by the glass and the cocktails are top notch and generous. Would definitely recommend for either couples or family/friend gatherings and the staff are really engaging and attentive.

    We had lunch at the White Horse yesterday, our weekly visit, and it came up trumps yet again. They offer a superb Specials Board each day as well as an extensive food and wine menu and we chos from the former. My husband had a French cut Rump Steak, cooked to perfection( what the French call ‘bleu’ ), and served with mushrooms, spinach ad new potatoes; I had the vegetarian special, a delightful gnocchi cooked with oodles of mushrooms and courgettes, extra mushrooms as I don’t like spinach. For desserts he chose his favourite , Apple Tart Tatin, served with vanilla ice cream and I,mine, 2 scoops of Salcombe Dairy ice cream. The service was excellent,the food superb and we can hardly wait for next week to arrive!

    Very noisy diners on two tables outside - to the point we could not converse. Had to change to an inside table where it was too hot.

    Fathers day so accept they were busy but our 5pm table wasn’t ready for 15 mins so we go to the table to be told we only had 90 mins. Service so slow we only had time for mains. Wine we ordered wasn’t available (out of date menu on our table), had to chase for kids drinks to be served and then again for water. Roast dinner was average. Potatoes were school dinner quality and chewy beef. Gravy was nice. Tried to charge us more than double! Will stick to The Fox in future.

    After being a long standing customer of the White Horse for many years and always having a pleasant experience, I was saddened by the service on Saturday lunchtime. 11th June. After waiting a long time for a glass of Champagne and querying it’s whereabouts, my husband was advised ‘we were in the system’. I felt more like on a conveyor belt than in my favour restaurant. I am so disappointed to feel this way particularly in view of past times.

    Service was poor....again. We had booked a table and sat under the covers....as requested. No one came to take our order for drinks or brought a menu so after 15 mins I went to get the menus and ask for drinks. Our starters weren't quick in arriving, or the plates being cleared. When the mains were delivered hubby asked for steak knifes...after 8 mins as his steak was going cold he went to find some. There was no apology for the delay or for him having to go and get them! My husband and son ordered a second round of drinks....which never came. So I paid and made sure we weren't charged. Someone asked us how things had been and I explained the above...the answer being....we were understaffed today so yeah not surprised...as if that was ok for a £107 lunch for 3! If they had said at the start order your own drinks and food at the bar as we are short staffed that would have been much better. Food was good ( except hubby's steak being cold due to the wait).

    20 pounds for roast beef and the portion was so small that I thought they gave it to me as a starter, the quality was average at best. The served the food very quickly but maybe there’s a reason for it. The only good thing was that the staff were friendly.

    Lovely lunch at the white horse on Saturday, had the crab crumpet with watercress for starters and the chicken schnitzel. Great wine list and has my favourite Lugana which was fabulous. Service came with a smile and some well chosen cheeky banter which was perfect. Feel very lucky to have this lovely pub so close.

    Excellent service and good food, but slightly smaller portions for Sunday lunch than we would have liked - except for the Yorkshire which seemed to be being used as a plate filler!

    I had lunch with three others and was disappointed by my food. The starter was no more than ok. The beef pie was of good quality but then I am familiar with it as we also buy them from the same online supplier; it was a bit over-baked. The mashed potatoes were not to my taste. What I was very pleased with was being able to have a "smidgen" of cheese, a single portion - a great idea. Overall, I could not recommend the White Horse for good food.

    Many thanks to the staff for coping so efficiently yesterday with our walking group of 14. The food arrived promptly and was of a high standard. Throughout our visit the staff were helpful and polite making the lunchtime meal a very pleasant experience.

    Sadly this was the worst meal we have ever had here and the service was poor even though the restaurant was nearly empty. Perhaps it was a mistake to go on a Monday. We will not be back any time soon.
