Fabulous as always. :-)
Wonderful decor and ambience. The food is Phenom. Loved the Mac n Cheese.. definitely going back.
Loved the exuberance of the decor down to the china and wallpaper! Lovely brunch, too. Next time I’ll come for tea!
Found this wonderful spot by a chance walk and glance at their menu; made reservations and the rest is history! Our new go-to neighborhood restaurant; beautifully prepared, fresh and unusual ingredients. We’re a vegetarian and a carnivore ... this spot offered us both some special treats. Look forward to returning soon.
Great atmosphere as well in front bar and rear dining area. And loved that chewy warm mini loaf of bread!! Thanks for a memorable evening!!
My wife and I had been there for Restaurant Week, and we LOVED it, so we went back. Very disappointing. The dishes we enjoyed for Restaurant Week were not on the regular menu. The tuna sashimi appetizer was very dry and bland, with little pieces of orange and jalapeños on top. Even the jalapeños were devoid of flavor. For the main course, I asked the waiter for a recommendation based on what other patrons liked. He recommended the chicken breast with risotto. My wife had the squid ink pasta with crab. Both of these main courses were just OK... Not worth the price though. Sadly we won’t be returning to the restaurant. It’s unfortunate, because the service is good and it’s in a geographically desirable location for us.
The Whitby is fantastic. The food is delicious and amazing. The staff is over the top professional and remember everything about you. EVERYTHING. Come in a second time and they’ll remember you, what you ate and what you drank. Amazing.
I stumbled on this and now I’m HOOKED!!!!
Don’t miss this NYC gem. This surprise waiting for you.
Oh. And you can thank me later.
Great service and food, and as always, the most beautiful and inspiring environment!
Excellent, interesting menu, attentive staff, interesting and comfortable surroundings and blessedly reasonable noise level, which is too uncommon in NYC.
Stunningly beautiful space! Wedgewood China service ware, silver flatware, etc.
They did not recognize reservation was made via NYC Restaurant Week, even though it was. There was no restaurant week menu available. Hostess was accommodating and provided us with a $36 Lunch option. Food was delicious but server was no knowledgeable about dish ingredients and switched shifts in the middle of our lunch. We were left confused and looking for our server constantly.
I would go back as the interior design and food were excellent but I hope for a much higher level of service for a restaurant of its caliber.
The room was beautiful and the hostess was very friendly. Loved the decor and our corner booth was comfortable. We were there for lunch and it was not very busy. It was surprising that the service was not as attentive as it should have been. We had to stop someone to get water. Food was good.
The loviest place. They were clearly understaffed so the service was slower than it should have been. That said, the staff was charming and professional and we wouldn’t hesitate to return.
Poor and slow service
Creative menu - Well executed - will go back again
Excellent restaurant week meal. Beautiful setting.
We were there for Restaurant Week and it was an EXCELLENT choice. Great food, great service, great ambiance, what more can you ask? The staff was solicitous and accommodated our various allergies. There was even gluten-free bread on offer! Highly HIGHLY recommended!!
Service was great, attentive and sophisticated. We had restaurant week menu, we loved it. The madeleines presentation was amazing! I will definitely come back
Fantastic vegan tea! Book early as it gets quite crowded.
Amazing atmosphere. Great place for dinner. Beautiful rooms.
Absolutely charming decor and fantastic service. My friend accidentally left her daughter’s present there and they called us when they found it. They were willing to mail it to her in the suburbs (postage paid with her CC). Love the old school charm decor and all the sound absorption the upholstery provides! Heehee.
One of the very best restaurant experiences of my life. Truly extraordinary!
Good food. Not bad service - just no service. Some attitude. Not trained staff.
Terrible service.. flagging waitstaff down consistently. The table next to us was doing the same. It’s a shame because the atmosphere is so lovely. I would think twice about returning and I’ve been there many times.
Louder tha usual due to restaurant week. Excellent food
Since we first tried the Whitby on Restaurant Week a few years ago, we keep coming back. Fine service, lovely ambiance (and if you get there early or late enough, it's quieter than many other restaurants). My meal was wonderful, and portions generous. My friend loved everything but her entree, but that was very subjective since it was something she'd never tried before.
This is a real find in this neighborhood, and worth a trip.
Great fantastic met Hollywood actress and rhony there
This review is for breakfast. Great decor/ambiance. Service was fine. Food was average at best. An omelette ordered with cheese, spinach and tomato arrived with no cheese in it. Prices are about average for mid-town Manhattan breakfast. Need to step up in the kitchen to match the decor. Despite the problems, I would give it another try.
Have returned to this restaurant over and over again and will continue to do so.
I love the Whitby for the decor. I ordered the butternut squash soup which was delicious but more surprising was the eggplant main dish. I'm not a vegetarian but I was just in the mood for it and it was incredibly tasty with great hints of crunchy onions. I would give it a 5 stars lunch!
Horrid coffee which I told them about. Beside that, I wanted to never leave!! Gorgeous space , very good food. Lovely
The Whitby Bar and Restaurant is a beautifully decorated warm space with natural wood floors and the usual Kit Kemp decorating - layers of fabrics, beautiful art and artifacts. I was excited to dine at The Whitby because I am a huge fan of Kemp's London hotels and restaurants. Unfortunately, the service was a bit flat and the prices are stratospheric. The bar was super lively (we dined in the dining room behind the bar) and I will go back for tea. The dinner is a mix of comfort food and yummy small plates - just WAY too expensive for what it is, sorry to say.
Just too expensive, alas
the ultimate in chic, modern, comfortable & cool in an afternoon tea experience!!!
Very pricey, though it's a pricey part of NYC. Food is nice, but not exceptional. Service is also very nice.
This was our first time visiting this restaurant. We went for high tea and it was fabulous. A bit pricey but worth the money spent. From the moment you walked into the restaurant, were seated and placed your order, everyone was so pleasant. I recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a nice get together, with family and friends enjoying good food, pleasant atmosphere and a leisurely meal
We had a great experience!
We were greeted by very warm and welcoming hosts. We had a lovely table where we could hear the music and enjoy the lovely front room atmosphere. I enjoyed it so much I’m coming back tonight. I hope I’ll be able to enjoy the front room again. (The band that played was very good.)
Wonderful setting for tea! Service couldn’t have been better.
Amazing ambiance, food and service. Lovely live jazz music.
