Made a reservation at 4:00 pm on Friday for 7:15 pm that evening, arrived at Whiskey House and they were closed. A notification on their FB page would have been nice.

Service was good. Not overly quick. Couldn’t hear the waiter with the music. Our fault as we hadn’t planned on the live music.

Been here a few times for music and drinks, this was the first time for a meal and probably the last. The menu as set for valentines, you got to pick an appetizer, entrée and desert. The wife had the chicken entrée and it was dry and flavorless. I had issues with two of the dishes, my Greek salad was anything but... no dressing, just chopped up cucumbers, tomatoes, two crumbs of feta cheese and the part I guess that made it "Greek" a pile of Greek olives. The only thing that had flavor was the olives. I had the ribeye for my entrée, the ribeye. The ribeye was very thin for being a ribeye, but it did have a good grill flavor, cooked perfect. Where we really had the problems was the waiter and staff. The it took about 15 minutes for him to bring water, yet helped the tables next to us several times, sat there for 25 minutes before we ordered. After our initial drink order, he never came back to see if we needed anything else. Staff kept bring us and the tables around us the wrong foods and drinks. Runners from the bar and kitchen had no idea what table was what. People got food that wasn't theirs and ate it plus their own order, I was delivered two drinks not for us, but I sent them back. It was a big cluster.

Overall okay place. First time and for Valentines was expecting it to be busier and it wasn't. We waited over 40 minutes for desert (Cheesecake) and although it was good, not worth the wait. Very limited menu and we still had to wait. Almost 10 minutes after sitting down we finally got our drink order after I went to another table to get a menu. Waiter said he would take off $3 for the delay ($114) bill and he forgot to do that. Prime rib was more a grilled sirloin and no veggies served with it. Just masked potatoes.

We there on Valentines Day. Assumed we would order from normal menu (since nothing special posted on webpage or Opentable). They had a special menu that night. No prices listed.... but we were committed, (and hungry). Had a nice meal and 1 drink each. Bill came.... $113.00 for the 2 of us. The special menu was $50/ plate. It was a nice meal/place, but not $50/ plate nice. Will be awhile until we go back. Would have been nice to know this in advance.

The experience at Whiskey House was very good, although 45 minutes before our reservation I received and email saying the reservation had been cancelled by the restaurant. Upon calling the restaurant they indicated they had not canceled it and still were expecting us. May have been an OpenTable issue.

Maybe not on a busy night. Service was terrible. Food was always cold and one appetizer was 50 min later then the other 3. Had to ask multiple times to receive it. Had to ask several people for water refills because we rarely got bar service. 3 hours for 2 of the courses. Didn’t stay for the 3rd

It wasn’t explained that there was a NYE party meal on open table; therefore when we arrived for dinner, we were surprised that there was not a full menu, only the $50 plate for the party with a limited menu. We took it in stride since there was limited last minute options for NYE. Service was great UNTIL we were finishing our meal. We were approached by a manager and asked if we were planning to stay for the party because they really needed the table. AFTER we’d already paid for our meal and additional drinks. Then he proceeded to say we needed to “not take our time” so they could seat someone else.... ridiculous. We still left good tips because the service up to then was great, but left disappointed due to the management.

We dined at the Whiskey House on a Monday night. It’s our favorite night to dine there because It’s quieter, less crowded, and Andy is an exceptional bartender! The smoked Old Fashioned is amazing. We ordered the cheese curds appetizer which are so crunchy and creamy at the same time. The Ahi tuna salad and Salmon entree were prepared to perfection. The presentation is magazine-worthy. If you love a good burger, I recommend the Whiskey House burger. It’s the perfect size and topped with some of the best bacon I’ve ever had. If you can’t tell, the Whiskey House is our go-to Monday night place!

When we asked our server for information on drinks she advised she was new and didn't know much about the whiskey that was offered but also didn't try to find someone to help her. Also my sister and brother in law ordered two different drinks but they tasted the same. My sister ordered a honey whiskey while my brother in law ordered Templeton Rye. There is no way these drinks should have tasted the same. When my sister went up to the bartender to ask about this they "used the last of the bottle" for the honey whiskey so were unable to show her what they poured her drink from. The bartender also mentioned that it was dark so it's hard to see.
Our bills were also messed up as my husband and I were each over charged for our entrees.
The manager did make it right by comping their drinks but he seemed to be about the only person who worked there who cared.
We really wanted to like the place, the food and atmosphere were great but when your server and bartender aren't helpful it's hard to consider going back.

The waiter we had was fantastic. Attentive, but not overly so. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. The bar seemed to take a while to get drinks out. Live music was an added bonus. Drink menu and bourbon options are worth going for. We will definitely eat here again.

Hello Erik, we apologize for the mishap on our end. You should have been seated as we did have the table reserve signs up. We did have quite a few that were 15 to 30 minutes late so we had to pull the reserve signs. I hope that was not one of your tables. We will work through the OpenTable process further. The band we had for the night did run a little louder than we requested and are taking measure to adjust that with the band should they return.

I had made this table reservation and then when I got there wasn't asked if we had a reservation, just told us to sit in the two tables that were still available without being reserved. The waitress took a while to get to us, and when she did she told us that there was a cover charge for the show which wasn't starting for an hour and a half. Kind of odd as we were gone well before that.
Ambiance was nice though and the music was good. Food was alright.

Hello. Our chef was disappointed in the review and sought to better our menu. We will be launching a new menu with renewed passion. We have also ensure we are pricing our menu accordingly. We will never be chain pricing due to the shear volume those types of restaurants can order but for local scratch made kitchen we will certainly always prices accordingly and fairly. We are happy to see you enjoyed the cocktails. We have also launched a new Fall Cocktail Menu which is quite delicious.

We had a large group; and I called ahead of time to give them a heads up on a bigger group, earlier in the week. I was told then it wouldn't be a problem and we'd be taken care of. Then getting to the reservations and checking in, I was told they were short staffed for the night, but that we'd be taken care of. However, the entire time we were there (3 hours total); our drink orders took longer than expected. I noticed ALL drinks were sitting up at the end of the bar and then 30 minutes later the drinks were delivered. The server asked the 1st table if they needed drinks which they said "we still haven't gotten the drinks we told you already." Our food was very slow. It took 1 hour to get the food we ordered. Some of the food was perfect, where the rest had cold fries, a burnt bun for the hamburger, and missed the condiments to come out with the sandwiches. I have been there a handful of times and this was by far the worst experience. I wanted to share this place with people that haven't been before and when I did they were so disappointed.

I ordered the brisket and it was the saltiest meal I’ve ever been served. We loved the cheese curds. Companion ordered salmon entree which was very skimpy on the veggies. Drinks were decent and one companion loved the option to smoke any drink for $2. 1 of 4 of us would go back and that is because he is a big whiskey fan. If not for the whiskey, don’t bother.

Friday night they were out of over 30% of their menu items. They claimed they were short on help. Ordered 6 appetizers and all of them arrived cold. Took another hour to get our entree and of the 6 all but 1 was cold. 2 hamburgers came out burned to a crisp. The salad had slimy lettuce all through out it. Took 2 hours to feed 6 of us. Couldn’t ever find out waitress when we needed her. Live music was way too loud for the size of space. Won’t go back.

We had checked with them several weeks in advance to confirm they would have cider on tap for the St Patrick's Day show. When we showed up, the waiter told us that there was only cider in bottles. Disappointing.

Their mixed drinks are expensive and tiny - and several people in our group ended up not drinking the signature drinks from the menu because they weren't particularly tasty once they arrived, even the one suggested by the waiter. I ended up nursing Dark and Stormys all night (because, after receiving prebombed Irish bombs last St Patrick's, I wasn't taking chances with anything more complicated) and spent far less than I'd budgeted for pitchers of cider.

I didn't order food this time because I was unimpressed last time. A friend ordered some fries, though, and I stole one after it was dropped off by the waiter. They tasted like frozen fries and had either been sitting a while or weren't done because they were tepid at best.

I realize the smoked whiskey thing is supposed to be a fun, hipster thing, but during a show it just stunk up the joint and made several people around them feel ill.

A positive: their clean up team is on point. A lady was sick in the restroom and the staff had it handled super quickly.

We had a much better time at the Mill in Iowa City the night before. Really hoping the band finds another place in Des Moines/Ankeny to play.

Overall, I feel like, if you want someplace you can feel pretentious about your whiskey, have cash to burn, and you only like whiskey or beer, this could be a good watering hole for you. If you have a mixed party, maybe look somewhere else.

I have been to the Whiskey House several times. The service is extremely variable, while occasionally it is good, more often than not it is not good at all. This was one of those times that the service was terrible. Our waiter could not get orders right to save his life - we got food we didn't order, didn't get food that we did order. It was terrible. In addition to the service, I had reserved a table for 8 - as their website permits. When I arrived I was told that they only had 4 of my seats and nothing was done to even try to fix the situation. I was never asked about changing my reservations so I have no idea why they were not honored. The last thing I'll mention is that they had plastic cups for sale for $10 (full of beer) - the deal was buy the cup with beer the first time at $10 and then refills would be $6. When we went to get a refill we were told they changed their price and the refill would now be $9 WTH??! This whole experience did not leave me with a good experience. Overall I have seen Whiskey House go downhill in the past couple of years.
