What a lovely spot! Great cocktails, great food, and wonderful, friendly service. We have been looking for a new restaurant near Symphony for ages, so it will now be our go-to spot!
Crabcakes had a strange aftertaste.
Pasta was dry. Burger was dry.
Appetizers and entrees all came out at the same time.
Service was excellent
Restroom was clean.
But the food was unappetizing.
What is wrong in the kitchen?
It was very crowded the evening we went and it took 15 minutes to get two glasses of wine. Our server was good, but stretched to his limit. The restaurant may be a victim of its own success.
The Westland is our go-to place when we attend performances at Symphony Hall, Jordan Hall and the Huntington. The food is always good, the atmosphere is pleasant and it's right next to Symphony Hall.
Tremendous food, ravioli and steak were delicious! Service was wonderful. Bathroom was old but spotless. Alcohol expensive, food more reasonable.
My boyfriend and I came from Symphony Hall for dinner on a Friday at 5. We had reservations and were sat immediately. Our waitress was amazing, our food came out quickly and when we needed to leave quickly to catch our train the waitress got our check and ran through my card in record time. Food was delicious. We split the meatball appetizer, and ordered a French Dip and Steak Tips. Steak was done beautifully and had amazing flavor. The French Dips was delicious and the meatballs too! Everything came out hot and quickly. We also had the creme brûlée for dessert which had fresh berries on top. Very good. Will definitely come again and have already recommended it to friends going to the symphony next month.
Wonderful for dining with a friend before going to the symphony next door. The food was good and the noise level low enough that we had no trouble engaging in conversation (unlike in most restaurants).
Very good food and friendly service
A perfect spot for a pre Symphony Hall event.
Great place to dine or have drinks before an event at Symphony Hall.
Nice place - good food, attentive server but noisy!!
MISFIRING ON ALL FRONTS
Have been to the Westland twice before and thought it was just so-so. The kale salad wasn't bad. Tough to find a place for a quick bite near the Symphony. Convinced friends to meet there before a play, even though they did not like the food. I now agree with them. A burger with almost nothing on it, french fries (frozen) that were worse than McDonald's, a meatball (tiny) appetizer oversalted accompanied by two big warmed up buns, a bisque that had the consistency of mashed potatoes, an inedible wilted salad (kale salad was no longer on the menu), a drink on the rocks that produced two sips and a final trickle of liquid. Initially, it had some potential but it has lost its luster with food that barely rises above acceptable.
Sunday evening, empty restaurant, seated at a what appeared to be the least desirable table, It took the server almost ten minutes to come over and take a drink order and this only because I asked the hostess to get our server. Unapologetic and zero personality.
On a positive note, the food was tasty! With so many dining options in the city I would skip this one.
this restaurant provided good food at a fair price but like so many other restaurants it appears they are short handed. Being short handed leads to delays. Despite having to care for an entire room our waitress did an excellent job.
Waited 90 minutes for cold bland food. What kind of restaurant leaves you sat waiting without so much as a slice of bread for over an hour?
Great find for a late night dinner after a concert at Symphony hall or the theater.
My husband, son and I went here for valentine's day and enjoyed the service provided. The atmosphere is calming and low-key. Such a wonderful place to hang with family, friends and loved ones.
Great experience, the staff is very friendly, the food was great and I LOVE the price very affordable.
The food was very good and the service was excellent. We share a dish with cod and the pork pappardelle. This was for a pre-theatre dinner and our server was excellent about making sure we made our curtain. We’ll be back.
Great to have a nice restaurant near BsO and Huntington theater. Nice comfortable place . Pretty quiet. Very tasty calimari . Excellent butternut squash soup . Short ribs a little too fatty . Carrot cake excellent and one piece plenty for four. Nice wine menu. Service good but perhaps a little new . Will definitely return .
A convenient place to go before or after Huntington Theatre or Symphony Hall. It's about a 5 minute walk to either.
Good, but not great food. The mixed cocktails were good (not too sweet.) The french dip sandwich that I usually would never get was delish! Instead of sirloin or round steak, they used short ribs, which was yummy. The caramelized onions and dip sauce that tasted like good onion soup really made the sandwich.
The calamari was fried too hard and was not piping hot! Also the fried oysters were not hot, and getting only 4 for $13 is too pricey. The mussels were nice and plump, but the wine in the sauce was not cooked down enough and overpowered the mussels. My sister had the nicoise salad and liked it.
Great waiter...patient with us because we were busy catching up prior to ordering. Niçoise salad was terrific!
They serve a lovely brunch! Two of us had the salmon avocado toast, one had the eggs Benedict and another had Croque Monsieur. Some great "mocktails" and a delightful server. And we were off to a matinee with time to spare.
We were super excited to try the Westland as we had admired the clubby look and feel. Bartender JP served up an innovative cocktail and had an extensive knowledge of the scotch list. Manager Angela helped make our family celebration special. Would definitely come back!
Our food was delicious, especially the calamari and braised short rib - don't miss them! Our server couldn't have been friendlier. Always a pleasure!
Wide-ranging menu. The food was excellent, the preparations unusual but delicious. Service was also excellent. Menu items for allergies were offered. Our dessert was "on the house" because we were going to the Huntington Theater afterwards! The only issue was very loud customers at adjacent tables.
Nice neighborhood spot, attentive service, but very busy pre-theater, so you get what you get. Food was good, but I'd stick to traditional dishes they do well with.
The service was just unbelievably slow. We waited between five and ten minutes for someone to take drink orders, then at least ten minutes before they arrived. Dinner took at least 30 minutes to arrive after ordering (which occurred when our drinks arrived). Overall almost an hour and a half for a very simple meal. On the plus side, the food was excellent; we had the pork ragu pasta and the half baked chicken, both of which were well prepared and nicely presented.
The service was exceptionally slow. We had made a 6 PM reservation for the BSO at 8 PM and barely made it! But our server was very gracious and the food was excellent. Recommend if you are not heading to a show or concert.
Great food and service. Will return!
Service was excellent - our waiter Jose was outstanding
This restaurant is warm and inviting. The charcuterie board is outstanding. We had the Westland burgers and they are good value for the money. We will be back.
Good brunch, convenient for Symphony Hall events and concerts
There for brunch. Food was good. I’m GF and unfortunately they do not have GF bread.
Mimosa was excellent!
Do no print. We've been before and loved it. Service was a bit slow this time and we had a show but we made it just fine. Just waited a bit too long. But don't publish!
We are delighted to have just discovered The Westland for pre-symphony dining ! Our experience was excellent all-around. Food, service, ambience, and of course just around the corner. We intend to become pre-symphony regulars.
Had tried The Westland last year before a symphony, and was pretty disappointed, but returned because it is so close to Symphony Hall to give it another shot. Really glad we did - the food was much better - fresh fish cooked nicely, great pasta, and the brussel sprouts side was awesome. Our server did need to brush up on their wine-pouring technique, but the service was otherwise good. For a neighborhood restaurant in this location, it's a nice option.
Great service and friendly staff who were willing to adjust table reservation times when needed. A wonderful experience.
Great pre-symphony spot, great service and nice bistro food
Great location, quiet ambience, very good food and excellent service. Very accommodating with food allergies/intolerances. Surely recommended.
We met a friend here before Symphony and had a lovely dinner--again! We will be back.
