Food was amazing as always, the bloodys are spicy and the waitress was an absolute peach. She was so nice and was happy to make recommendations.
Took my fiancee here for a birthday brunch and was super impressed! The crab cake benedict was out of this world amazing, and the brunch poutine was also delicious (though maybe a little heavy for breakfast) . They also surprised us by bringing out one of their house made cream-filled-chocolate-covered donuts with a birthday candle in it - and it was absolutely to die for!!! Great atmosphere, tasty drinks, definitely would recommend!
Best place to eat close to Symphony Hall. Great burgers. Rest of menu is fine. Pleasant spot where you can select tables that escape the noise.
Pre-event (WHO show) experience. GREAT choice! Manhattans at the bar, then Old fashions at the table. The crab cakes were DIVINE! Served on a bed of arugula. Then, a white pizza (no red sauce) with ricotta, fig and proscuitto. OUTSTANDING!!
Definitely an amazing food experience. YUM!!
Nice atmosphere. Staff very friendly and excellent service. I have dined several times. The calamari is great and can get with or without spicy relish. Great for casual burger or variety of entrees. The short ribs exceeded expectations.
The bartenders all are very good and drinks are consistent.
Beautiful restaurant, but completely empty for a holiday weekend. So imagine my surprise when they were out of my first choice for my main course (scallop gnocchi). Then they were out of my second choice (the filet mignon). I settled for the grilled salmon (minus the mussels, which they were able to accommodate nicely) and it was really delicious. And our server was adorable, making it much easier to forgive them for being out of so many dishes. I'd love to recommend this restaurant, but just don't be surprised if it's pretty empty and offering limited dishes.
Everyone was quite friendly and the place itself is gorgeous. I believe I just ordered the wrong thing. I asked for a charcuterie board, expecting cured meats. Instead it was more cheese and was mainly pâtés for the meat options. The duck was fantastic, but overall it just wasn’t for me. My children’s pasta, which I asked for the sauce on the side came on it instead. Since it’s not in our neighborhood, won’t be back anytime soon but willing to give it another shot since my husband loved his breakfast sandwich.
Great bar and restaurant. It's easily becoming a neighborhood favourite.
Not a good night. Very short staffed so although not crowded the service was very very slow. Then the credit card machine was broken and they only took cash which if you didn’t have, you needed to go to the nearest ATM before you could pay. All in all not a good experience. The one upside was the tuna tartar which was excellent.
If you are a cocktail drinker, the Westland is soon to be a favourite. Their cocktail menu is creative and the delightful. I've enjoyed every drink I've tried. The food is extremely flavorful and there's something for everyone, even the pickiest of eaters. The dessert menu is limited, but the few options are designed for the perfect ending to your meal. The service was wonderful, our server was very attentive and engaging. All in all, it's a new local favorite. I'd definitely recommend it for a night out with friends, a date, or family dinner.
We went for brunch - it was overall a good experience. The service was great, we thought some of the food was awesome and some was just okay. The melon and prosciutto pizza was not good - looked like the crust had been frozen and then fried or grilled, which created a poor texture and taste. The eggs Benedict was really good. We got two of the donuts to split and they were out of this world! We all got some of the breakfast cocktails to mixed reviews as well, some great, some not as great.
Overall, would go again but would be careful about what we order. Classic cocktails and meal items were awesome, the more creative ones were not.
Food was amazing. Service was terrible!
Delicious food and great service in a unique setting.
Convenient to Huntington theater and symphony Hall but that's about it. Super slow service (maybe because it was midweek and empty?) and wierd menu that's all over the place. $29 scallops undercooked, even after waiting a long time for them. Probably a better spot for a couple beers at the bar.
Great cocktails. Food is nothing to write home about. Ambience was decent and not crowded even for a Saturday evening. I would say apps and cocktails are the strengths of this restaurant for now. Would have liked their dinner to be better--for example, their dinner menu was from the winter and we went there on July 13th. Definitely room for improvement but I would not write this place off yet!
Excellent, food, service and location. We would return.
Solid neighborhood option, will be back before a show at the Symphony
Decent restaurant! Good food and service and fairly priced. This area (by Symphony and the Huntington) needed a restaurant like this!
Food was overpriced for the actual quality and quantity. I bought the Niçoise Salad which had 4 tiny pieces of Tuna, random scrambled eggs, two cut up baby potatoes and two cut up grape tomatoes on a bed of shredded lettuce... for almost $20 dollars. The steak was way over cooked when asked for medium rare. Not to mention that I could have literally gotten drunk off the banana bread pudding since the cooks didnt cook the alcohol all the way through. The only thing with coming back for is the tomato soup. Such a shame since this place had so much potential.
Very good but service was slow. We needed to call over the waitress to finally take our order. It was not busy but she was clearing tables, hanging around and we couldn’t get her attention. Another waitress came over and got our waitress to come over. The food came out of the kitchen very quickly. The hostess was very good.
We both had salads (Cobb and Caesar with chicken) and portions were quite generous and ingredients fresh.
We had 1 pizza and a glass of wine each. The wine was fine. The tomato, mozzarella & basil pizza was very dry and tasteless. Tomato paste had been substituted for tomato sauce and no olive oil was used. The crust was under cooked...all in all the worst pizza in recent memory. The Arugula, fig and goat cheese pizza was tasty, but also very dry and no olive oil had been drizzled over it either. It was barely acceptable.
This dining experience was at odds with a previous visit at which we had good burgers. We are not likely to return to Westland. Jack Craib
Way overpriced! 4 small scallops for $29 is an absolute rip off. While the food was decent, it was not worth what we paid. Yummy cocktails though.
Good location for symphony and HUntington
We have been the The Westland several times over this past winter and the food was great. However, it is now summer and they continue to offer their "winter" menu which is quite heavy and honestly, pretty boring if you've been eating here regularly. While our food was ok, we were bored with the menu - no specials and nothing of interest.
Really enjoyed our dining experience. Good drinks . Good food. Will return .
Excellent food and beautifully prepared. The beef bourgeon was very tender and tasty. Crab cakes were delectable. We were seated at a high top in the bar area, which was comfortable, but the tables are very close together so it was impossible to avoid hearing the conversations on either side of us. Overall a very positive dining experience with good service.
I took my family here for dinner. Everyone's food was tasty but, unfortunately, one chicken dish was under cooked and we found blood inside. We informed the nearest waitress who sincerely apologised, which was nice. And they manager also came over to apologise which we appreciated. Whilst they did offer to re-cook the meal, and we declined, they did not automatically remove this item from the receipt. So we did have to ask for the undercooked meal to be removed, which they agreed to. Other than this meal which was undercooked, the other were very tasty.
Perfect for a concert at Jordan Hall or Symphony Hall. Food excellent, and service outstanding. We appreciated the dip and chips while we awaited our food. They even made a special fruit dessert for us.
Not a bad experience, but also nothing notable about it. Everything was “good,” which was disappointing given the enormous potential for the space.
This restaurant was really needed in the BSO area !! The food was very good . Portions were about right. The service was pleasant . The only issue that may need attention is the problem of noise.
Pluses & Minuses - some things good - others not so good. No one at the check-in desk when we arrived. Finding our reservation did not go well. Our table was not ready for our 6:00 p.m. reservation - the restaurant was not full. Our second time at this restaurant and the same undersized table in the same poor location. The table was small - more like one would get at a cocktail bar - and against the wall in a busy walkway. It was a rainy night - no cloak room in site for raincoats and umbrellas and no offer to take care of them - we had to ask. The cocktails were fine as was the calamari appetizer. The porchetta was tasty albeit somewhat dry - the roast chicken was excellent.
Pomegranate seeds were spoiled; server didn’t offer to bring something else or take it off the bill...she just chuckled and suggested we pick around them. Not OK.
nice venue but defintely sub par food. steak tasted like cooked in microwave and chicken seriously overcooked.
What makes the Westland great is that the food consistently tastes great, and there is something to please everyone on the menu. I appreciate that there is a range of prices and types of food on the menu to accommodate people's different budgets and dietary restrictions. In addition, it seems like most people haven't caught onto the Westland yet, so you can reliably get a table as well. Some things that I think the restaurant could improve on... the service is quite slow. Once it was painfully slow and we waited a very long time to get drinks, our food (even though the place was almost empty), or just our waitress' attention. The other time, it was mildly uncomfortable when everyone at the table started to wonder when we were going to be helped. I think this is worth enduring if the group isn't in a rush given how accommodating the menu is. The a other thing to improve is the music, in my opinion. I feel like the Westland would best serve the neighborhood as a laid-back, but elevated space to celebrate a family occasion or introduce friends to each other. The Top 40 playlist cheapens the atmosphere I think, but it's an easy fix.
The waitstaff if amazing and we love the hostess! She is so amiable. We all met for brunch and this was my second time back. The Westland does not disappoint! Ty
Great first visit. The
It took 15 minutes just for water for a table of 2, at 5:30. Never mind drinks. Another server came over twice and almost took us over as her table because our server was so bad. I had a salad and it came out warm, almost 30 minutes after we put in our order. There were waiters standing around and plenty of empty tables. I’m not sure what was happening, but I’ve worked as a bartender for years and couldn’t find anything that would have contributed to the poor level of quality we received
Ordered 3 burgers and none were cooked to your requirements. One of our starters came a long tome after the other 2 and we had to work hard to get our servers attention. Overall the food was mediocre and the place appears fancier than their food.
The menu is some what limited. We chose this restaurant because it was near symphony hall. I wouldn't probably choose this place next time. They were still using a winter menu in June. We had fall salads and chose to pay extra to add chicken. The chicken was really salty, crab cakes were delicious, cauliflower appetizer was bland, martinis were super small. Our waitress was great. We asked for an after dinner coffee menu, they didn't have one. The bar tender was able to make what we requested, they didn't have whipped cream. However our waitress asked them to make some and the kitchen did.
