We have been the The Westland several times over this past winter and the food was great. However, it is now summer and they continue to offer their "winter" menu which is quite heavy and honestly, pretty boring if you've been eating here regularly. While our food was ok, we were bored with the menu - no specials and nothing of interest.
Really enjoyed our dining experience. Good drinks . Good food. Will return .
Excellent food and beautifully prepared. The beef bourgeon was very tender and tasty. Crab cakes were delectable. We were seated at a high top in the bar area, which was comfortable, but the tables are very close together so it was impossible to avoid hearing the conversations on either side of us. Overall a very positive dining experience with good service.
I took my family here for dinner. Everyone's food was tasty but, unfortunately, one chicken dish was under cooked and we found blood inside. We informed the nearest waitress who sincerely apologised, which was nice. And they manager also came over to apologise which we appreciated. Whilst they did offer to re-cook the meal, and we declined, they did not automatically remove this item from the receipt. So we did have to ask for the undercooked meal to be removed, which they agreed to. Other than this meal which was undercooked, the other were very tasty.
Perfect for a concert at Jordan Hall or Symphony Hall. Food excellent, and service outstanding. We appreciated the dip and chips while we awaited our food. They even made a special fruit dessert for us.
This restaurant was really needed in the BSO area !! The food was very good . Portions were about right. The service was pleasant . The only issue that may need attention is the problem of noise.
Pluses & Minuses - some things good - others not so good. No one at the check-in desk when we arrived. Finding our reservation did not go well. Our table was not ready for our 6:00 p.m. reservation - the restaurant was not full. Our second time at this restaurant and the same undersized table in the same poor location. The table was small - more like one would get at a cocktail bar - and against the wall in a busy walkway. It was a rainy night - no cloak room in site for raincoats and umbrellas and no offer to take care of them - we had to ask. The cocktails were fine as was the calamari appetizer. The porchetta was tasty albeit somewhat dry - the roast chicken was excellent.
Pomegranate seeds were spoiled; server didn’t offer to bring something else or take it off the bill...she just chuckled and suggested we pick around them. Not OK.
nice venue but defintely sub par food. steak tasted like cooked in microwave and chicken seriously overcooked.
What makes the Westland great is that the food consistently tastes great, and there is something to please everyone on the menu. I appreciate that there is a range of prices and types of food on the menu to accommodate people's different budgets and dietary restrictions. In addition, it seems like most people haven't caught onto the Westland yet, so you can reliably get a table as well. Some things that I think the restaurant could improve on... the service is quite slow. Once it was painfully slow and we waited a very long time to get drinks, our food (even though the place was almost empty), or just our waitress' attention. The other time, it was mildly uncomfortable when everyone at the table started to wonder when we were going to be helped. I think this is worth enduring if the group isn't in a rush given how accommodating the menu is. The a other thing to improve is the music, in my opinion. I feel like the Westland would best serve the neighborhood as a laid-back, but elevated space to celebrate a family occasion or introduce friends to each other. The Top 40 playlist cheapens the atmosphere I think, but it's an easy fix.
The waitstaff if amazing and we love the hostess! She is so amiable. We all met for brunch and this was my second time back. The Westland does not disappoint! Ty
Great first visit. The
It took 15 minutes just for water for a table of 2, at 5:30. Never mind drinks. Another server came over twice and almost took us over as her table because our server was so bad. I had a salad and it came out warm, almost 30 minutes after we put in our order. There were waiters standing around and plenty of empty tables. I’m not sure what was happening, but I’ve worked as a bartender for years and couldn’t find anything that would have contributed to the poor level of quality we received
Ordered 3 burgers and none were cooked to your requirements. One of our starters came a long tome after the other 2 and we had to work hard to get our servers attention. Overall the food was mediocre and the place appears fancier than their food.
The menu is some what limited. We chose this restaurant because it was near symphony hall. I wouldn't probably choose this place next time. They were still using a winter menu in June. We had fall salads and chose to pay extra to add chicken. The chicken was really salty, crab cakes were delicious, cauliflower appetizer was bland, martinis were super small. Our waitress was great. We asked for an after dinner coffee menu, they didn't have one. The bar tender was able to make what we requested, they didn't have whipped cream. However our waitress asked them to make some and the kitchen did.
I’ve been there several times with different friends and we all raved about everything there. This time was quite different...stale pre dinner chips...greasy and globs of fat on the 2 beef pieces of the bourgignon dinner...even one of the carrots tasted ‘off’.
Not sure about going back....
I would recommend the cheese board and cocktails! The chicken was very sweet.
It is a good location pre Pops, but the service was very patchy. Luckily we left enough time. Food was good in general, some things better than others (It was our third time there)
The food was fine, but the wait for the food was way too long. We had a 6:30 reservation and were seated right away. We needed to be done by 7:45 to get to a show nearby. We ordered drinks and waited at least 20 minutes for them. In the meantime we ordered dinner, which was burgers and a pizza. The waiter kept telling us another 5 minutes. The food finally arrived at 7:40. We gulped it down and ran out. We had to eat fast and so could not enjoy the food.
Dinner before Pops concert. Ideally locTed two minutes from Symphony Hall. Excellent menu for both a quick meal if you need to get to the show or just everyday dining for any occasion.
We've been waiting for The Westland to open for over a year. The space is beautiful with two good size bars. They seem to have some kinks to work out though. The restaurant was not very crowded but the service was very slow, food actually came out before we got out drinks. It was also very loud, despite the small crowd. The food was hit or miss. The crab cakes were delicious but the salad was overdressed. That said, we'd be open to giving it another try in a couple of months after they've hopefully had a chance to work out some of these kinks or at least stop in for a drink at the cool bar.
Great value. 3 crab cakes in the appetizer, most restaurants would only offer 2. Wine list fairly priced, would have like a few more selections. Great place to eat before theatre or symphony.
We loved that the noise level was quiet. Low music that didn't intrude and quiet TV at the bar. That is really important to us when looking for a restaurant. This was our first visit but we go to Symphony Hall a lot and so we will be back because we can talk without it being an effort.
Never been there before and it was lovely..I'll likely be back
Imaginative American food. The burger was to die for and actually done medium rare (which is rare). Bacon and cheese pizza was delicious. Their take on the shareable calamari was very good without a thick batter. Good crab cakes.
Breakfast Negroni, brunch poutine, bananas fosters French Toast was so good! Service was okay but it’s new and going through the phases.
Wouldn’t recommend. The service was horrible.
Food done well with unobtusive but attentive service. Nice atmosphere.
Food and service was quick and amazing, oh and drinks are unique
My friend and I wanted to try Westland it got excellent reviews on WBZ 1030 am radio. It took some time to get us our drinks (shareable bubbles, great idea!) but it was busy so not a big worry. "Fluffy" donut was quite dense and tough, flavor ok. Poutine was good, not great. After we finished eating however, a mouse came out from under the tables (by then the dining room only had 3-4 parties in it we were the only ones that saw it. It was not at all people shy, ran in and about the tables then disappeared. We alerted several staff people all of whom were ultra-casual about mouse presence they knew about it and it was not a big deal. Clearly rodents are a big deal especially when seen in daytime in a restaurant.
The meatball appetizer came with toasted white bread. The toast was burnt black on the backside. Then they were out of eggplant at 6:00 the night of a show at symphony hall. I ordered a flatbread pizza that had crust that was also burnt black rendering the food inedible. . This food should not have been served.
I m telling everyone
Perfect before theater or for brunch
Homemade donuts 😍😍😍😍
Food was awesome, seriously awesome. Service was pretty good, guy was really nice. No one acknowledged the fact that it was our anniversary however. Was surprised to see Josh so predominate on the wine list.
We went before a Boston Pops performance. When we ordered, we did not receive a warning that the kitchen was "backed up" - we only found out after we asked where our food was...after waiting a little more than 20 minutes. We watched a couple a few tables over order after we did - looked like they ordered a series of apps vs entrees - and they got their food in a fraction of the time as us. Plate after plate after plate to their table as we sat waiting.
We didn't get our food for 30 minutes and we had to eat faster than we would have liked in order to make the performance. The issue apparently had been the with the fish I ordered, because when we did finally get our food, my fish was very hot but my husband's steak was luke warm as though it had been sitting in the window for a while.
Kitchens get backed up, and that's ok. But a little bit of warning would have been nice, so that we could have adjusted our orders, or at the very least adjusted our expectations.
We have dined at The Westland five times this month, taking guests each time. EVERYTHING about each experience has been perfect and we always look forward to our next visit. We recommend making reservations - so easy to do at their website.
The food and drinks took a really long time to come out. Also the food was all cold. It was a terrible experience and I wouldn't go back or recommend.
Excellent experience overall. Food could’ve stood out a bit more, but the steak frites were good (average for a place like this). Service was great. The stuffed mushrooms were definitely the best dish we had.
Great for dinner before going to nearby Symphony Hall.
Dined on a Friday night when the restaurant was very crowded. Service, food, and ambience were very good. Mussels were outstanding! Our waitress was professional and attentive.
