The West End Grill
Absolutely perfect! Took my Mom for her 60th Birthday and it was the perfect start to our night. Sea Bass melted like butter
The verbal menu is cumbersome, yet unexciting... (all meats come with mashed potatoes... etc.)
Cocktail read $14 on the menu, I was charged $20.
Roasted Caprese was not a good take on a classic. Oven dried tomatoes and cheap mozzarella are not an improvement.
Bone in Delmonico came with no bone and in two pieces... strange.
Told the server I wanted wine with dinner, never was provided the opportunity to order it.
Not sure about the hype. Extreme price value disconnect.
Will not be returning.
Very nice atmosphere with great staff; Joy was awesome. The menu has many unique choices; I decided on the Seafood Strudel as my appetizer and Filet Béarnaise as my main course. They were both out of this world. We will be back again!
ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS EVERY TIME!! This restaurant does it right. Classy, delicious, amazing service, wonderful decor, please can I move in???
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. We have been going to celebrate our anniversary at the West End for many years now. It never disappoints and we will continue to celebrate all of our important events that require a great meal at this wonderful restaurant !!
The West End Grill is a personal favorite of ours. We have gone there for various special occasions for over 25 years. During our last visit (our anniversary) we learned that the original owner sold the business to another local buyer who values the charm of the place and regularly dines there. The new owner did not want to lose this gem to some trendy chain and have kept everything (including the wonderful staff) in place. I hope this this place retains its intimate charm and atmosphere. The food is always solid. This restaurant has the feel of a quaint European eatery.
The West End Grill has been our favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor, and it has not lost a step with the new ownership. The friendly service, ambience and amazingly delicious food are all exactly the same! The warm beignets and herb butter are the perfect start to every meal, and we loved our artichoke and ravioli appetizers. Entrees on this visit were the halibut, chicken and filet mignon...all perfectly prepared and so full of flavor. So glad the new owners didn't try to improve something that is already perfect!
Great as usual!
We have been going to West End Grill for years. It is always consistently great. Joy was a pleasure to have as a waitress. Food is always the best.
Great atmosphere, service and food. What else ca you ask for? We will be going back.
Haven’t been to West End Grill for several years. Had a very early reservation. I am celiac and asked about gluten free options. In the past the chef had been able to make changes to just about everything on the menu. This time the options were limited. For the appetizer was told 3 of the 10 or so were gluten free. I ordered the grilled artichoke. When it came the server placed the sauce in a separate bowl on the table and told me it was not gluten free. So I was served a plain grilled artichoke. Then ordered the “special” salad described as a roasted tomato caprese. It was whole sundried tomatoes and mozzarella. Just awful. The salmon entree was good. My husband’s lamb chops looked much better but apparently had a sauce with gluten. For the price the chef should be able to accommodate a gluten issue IMHO.
The experience was very good. But, not as good as our past experiences. The food was not as flavorful, the presentation was the same chalk board menu. However, don’t present on broken chalk boards, with smudged writing, & juvenile printing. You can tell the restaurant was recently sold, as the little details are not attended to.
Very dark. Waiter takes a long time relating the menu. There is no written menu. Fried beignets were good but didn’t go with meal. Seafood strudel was a clump of slightly burned filo dough with a dense pile of seafood. Seafood was ok by itself. Lobster bisque was poor. A hint of lobster flavor with no lobster meat. My sea bass was very good but the plating was poor with a half carrot sitting alone over almost half the plate.
Overall, not worth the money.
Made reservations @ 8p to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday, we arrived around 745 and our table was ready and we were seated immediately. Rita was our server and she was outstanding throughout.. very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. After a couple of well made old-fashioneds we had the seafood strudel as an appetizer... I highly recommend. I had the filet and my date had the mushroom gnocchi.. the filet was great and as much as I liked it I think the gnocchi was even better. Too full to eat dessert but it looked as good as the rest of our meal. The overall atmosphere is very friendly and classy not stuffy..perfect for what we were looking for. We will be back.
Good menu, good service, nice variety, pleasant place to have dinner with friends.
The food and service is second to none. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Great service and food
Tediously long explanations about the food ingredients, but the taste was sub-par. For $38 less than an ice-cream scoop size portion of rice pilaf, a card-deck size of very petite filet and 2 skinny asparagus stems for which I paid extra because the plate called for green beans. Filet had no sauce of any kind. This restaurant it trying too hard to be trendy but the kitchen is not up to par. Ambiance was great, but not the food.
Superb food. Great variety of choices
The beignets with herb butter which start dinner here are fantastic. We also loved our appetizers, honey mustard grilled shrimp for me and a tuna poke for my spouse. For entrees, the proteins were excellent, though pretty small portions (I had the lobster tail, my spouse had the salmon). Unfortunately, the accompanying green beans were too raw to be edible and the rice pilaf was undercooked to the point that the grains could not be bitten through. We had been here several years ago and my hubby remembered that they had had outstanding creme brulee, but this, unfortunately, is no longer on the menu. I had a spiced bread pudding and he had the molten chocolate cake, both with a small scoop of ice cream. Delicious. But, please, please, cook the green beans long enough that we can actually chew them and cook the rice long enough that the grains are fluffy and chewable.
Our server Mark I believe Made our evening with friends fun, as did the kitchen.
Delicious food, excellent service, unpretentious atmosphere. Minimum $17 for glass of chardonnay seemed excessive though.
I’ve come many times to this restaurant. Virtually every time the food and service was outstanding. This time the service was beyond terrible. Inattentive bordering on purposeful ignoring. . Food was mediocre. $50 for lamb????
Our waiter was attentive, but not intrusive and extremely knowledgeable about the entire menu.
Food was delicious, menu was full of options, and the server was great. Can’t wait to go back!
Our return to the West End Grill met all expectations. Great food, wine and service. Noisier than I recall. This is a minor distraction to an other fine dining experience. We'll return.
Everything about this delightful restaurant was spot on. I love the chalk board menu and the server’s knowledge and walk through of the food. The wine list was delightful and worked well with our food. This was a truly memorable evening.
We were celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary. Great location for a romantic dinner for two. The food was delicious and the wine suggestions were perfect. Dessert
was chocolate cake and it was the perfect ending to our dining experience.
Terrific visit. Been several times. Everything was perfect. Tuesday night was great because the normal noise level was much lower.
A great dining experience if you are looking for a quaint place in a lovely vintage atmosphere.
The waiter and the food were fantastic. The tuna tartare was wonderful but I would recommend going just for the Halibut!
Great menu. Service was a little slow but not an issue. Great place!
Phenomenal experience. Our server (Matt?) was knowledgeable, friendly, and informative. The atmosphere was elegant without pretension. It was a lovely way to spend an evening out.
Overall Great dinner and service!!!!
Table too close to clanging silverware
Probably one of the best restaurants in Ann Arbor. Quiet relaxed dining, good food. Not cheap but worthwhile.
The food at the West End Grill is good and our server was pleasant and knowledgeable. However, the decor is VERY dated and wine by the glass (my wife had fish and I had duck so we wanted white & red) is limited and includes mostly expensive options, forcing us to pay more for wine than typical. I don’t think we will return.
We had a gift certificate to West End Grill and went there for my wife's birthday dinner. It is a lovely restaurant in terms of ambiance, and the service at the front end of our visit was excellent. However, once we sat down, service was very slow; we got our appetizers almost a full hour after we'd arrived! The waitstaff was courteous but inattentive. As for the food itself, every dish was extremely sweet, but otherwise didn't have much flavor. The menu seemed to make copious use of ingredients like honey and bacon, which do make dishes taste good, but also make them unhealthy and not very refined in terms of flavor. The most damning thing to me was that all the entrees all came with the same side dishes of rice pilaf and steamed green beans. (They used to give out a print menu, which listed different sides for each entree, but now they've switched to a much less informative chalkboard menu, perhaps to hide this fact.) For $40-$60 per main dish, I'd expect side dishes to be tailored to each individual entree! The one standout dish was the key lime pie for dessert. All in all, the food was very heavy (my wife called it "old-people food," lots of beef and fish in bland sauce). Although we liked the ambiance, we won't be back.
We felt like VIPs having dinner there on Saturday night. Our waiter, Christian, was helpful and knowledgeable.
We always enjoy eating at the West End Grill. The food was very good. Service was excellent. While the scallop dinner was delicious, I was surprised that there were only three scallops. My martini was just right and my wife enjoyed her wine.
