Situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, The Wensleydale Heifer may be within easy reach of the A1 and M6 but it still feels totally rural. A traditional white-washed inn complete with leaded lights and swinging sign, The Wensleydale Heifer gives the visitor a real flavour of Britain meaning it’s popular not only with locals but with tourists searching for the real Yorkshire. From the lounge, with its comfortable leather settees, country pursuit paintings and imposing fireplace through to the wicker seating, beamed ceilings and eau de nil painted walls, the interior could have leapt from the pages of Country Homes magazine. The contemporary British menu includes seaood from across Britain plus locally sourced meat and veg, all prepared using the Wensleydale Heifer philosophy – keep it simple.

A lovely meal, we were forgotten about initially after arriving but this was rectified, staff apologised and gave us our first drinks on the house, service afterwards was excellent. It was my husband’s birthday; they gave him a balloon, card and small gift which we thought was a lovely extra touch. The food was very good, we would love to return, thank you.

This is the second time in as many years we have been here and once again the experience did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in it was a pleasure. From the greeting, to the friendly attitudes, the actual atmosphere and surroundings we felt so comfortable straight away. The food was absolutely exceptional and the service was perfect. Friendly, knowledgeable and made us feel so welcome. Even the interaction with other guests just added to the all around positive environment as everyone was just made to feel at ease and relaxed. Will once again be back and look forward to it.

First visit, warm welcome, fantastic staff , amazing food. If your in the area book a table you will not be disappointed. We booked for the Sunday lunch, food was beautiful , book in advance as it does get very busy

We had a very enjoyable meal, nice food, well presented and reasonably priced, but what stood out for us was the efficiency and friendliness of the staff, not a fan of what now seems to be widespread practice of adding an ‘optional’ service charge to the bill, however in this instance we were very happy as the tip was well deserved with good service being rewarded.

Booked for my wife’s 50th birthday - and it didn’t disappoint! Beautiful location, lovely staff and excellent food. Everyone made us feel really special and we had a fabulous time. We had ‘the lobster experience’ which was incredible and we just managed to squeeze in a fabulous chocolate dessert to finish - sublime! Thank you !!!

Perfect in every way! Friendly welcoming staff: Beautifully presented throughout with the 'Heifer' a theme around the hotel: The Menu was comprehensive and the food quite frankly outstanding. Easy to see why the hotel has an AA five star rating.

Another fantastic meal at The Wensleydale Heifer. We always enjoy our visits, we are made very welcome by the staff and the service is good. We had our Grandson with us on this visit, a meal here is one of the highlights for him whenever he comes away with us to Wensleydale. We couldn't fault anything about our meal at all.
