Situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, The Wensleydale Heifer may be within easy reach of the A1 and M6 but it still feels totally rural. A traditional white-washed inn complete with leaded lights and swinging sign, The Wensleydale Heifer gives the visitor a real flavour of Britain meaning it’s popular not only with locals but with tourists searching for the real Yorkshire. From the lounge, with its comfortable leather settees, country pursuit paintings and imposing fireplace through to the wicker seating, beamed ceilings and eau de nil painted walls, the interior could have leapt from the pages of Country Homes magazine. The contemporary British menu includes seaood from across Britain plus locally sourced meat and veg, all prepared using the Wensleydale Heifer philosophy – keep it simple.

Food was tasty and nicely served. We had lobster and desserts. However, way to pricey…! £12 for any desserts and the affogato was £14… a 750ml bottle of still water is £6. Also, on the bill they added a third dessert (we were a party of two) and surcharged the 2 scoops of ice cream to a full dessert price!

Very warm, welcoming and friendly on arrival. The whole Heifer team were fabulous, very attentive but not invasive. Environment set up was lovely with added thought and decoration to both it being Easter Sunday and we were there for a birthday celebration. The food menu was extensive and took awhile to decide as all options looked good. Each coarse was beautifully presented and delicious. High quality produce throughout, as were the wine and drinks menus. Overall a very memorable experience and can’t wait to return. Thank you and well done team!!

Lovely experience for my birthday. Food, friendly staff, and service were exceptional. Lovely touches like a balloon, card, and small gift were really nice. I would highly recommend.

Lovely place, lovely staff. Bad experience with the food this time. I would have liked a refund so I contacted the management later that day as I felt awkward. That never happened. I won't return. The food serves to us was totally inadequate and exceptionally bad value. I'm amazed they were happy to present it for that price.
