The Wayside Inn Restaurant
The food we delicious. The view is great. Wish we went there sooner. Now i know where to eat in that area :)
We've had several dinners at The Wayside and we can't recommend it highly enough. Sara, the proprietor, keeps a close watch on the dining experience. She also mixes a mean martini. The menu is creative, healthy, and absolutely delicious. We've had amazing short ribs, a divine chicken thigh-wrapped-in-bacon dish, a delicious Bolognese and fresh and surprising salads. Wayside is a hidden gem. The chef is an artist. You will love your dining experience.
A spectacular meal! Our whole party enjoyed it, including one vegan diner and one extremely picky kid. The staff was attentive and understanding of our rambunctious children, the atmosphere was festive and fun, and the food was beyond amazing.
Beautiful historic inn atmosphere with superb service and delicious food in an area where there aren’t too many choices. My only tiny critiques were to give some small plates out with the bruschetta for sharing and that the portions overall were pretty small. I got a salad with grilled salmon. The salad was an appetizer size. Would suggest offering half and full size portions with correlating prices. The piano music was a nice touch for a weeknight. I would definitely eat here again.
All meals were excellent from the steak to the lamb shank and chiken cordon blue. The chocolate pecan pie was enjoyed by all.
What a great find and we will be back. Four of us were all impressed. Food was perfectly prepared and service was exceptional. Plenty of parking as well.
My wife and I totally enjoyed our time at The Wayside Inn. Sarah and her team were very friendly and truly took care of everything, especially additional ice! Our room was lovely filled with charming furnishings. The room was clean and we could hear the flowing river...very relaxing!
The breakfast (included) was great. Sarah was the breakfast chef and made a delicious 3 egg omelet.
We ate dinner one night and we were not disappointed. I had a mushroom quesadilla - a major hit for me! My wife had a salad which was very good. As expected, my wife had the cherry braised beef short ribs and she raved how good it was. I had the duck and was very happy it came out a perfect medium rare.
Being able to talk with Sarah, I heard her vision of what she would like the inn to become. We can't wait to go back and see what improvements come next. Treat yourself, go to The Wayside Inn!
The facility is rather worn, yet clean, comfortable, and homey as you settle in to the country setting.
Service was very good and attentive as all special requests were honored.
Our meals had good flavor, and those surrounding us looked appetizing.
Portions were on the small side: very few ‘chips’ with the fish and chips for my partner, and while my salmon
filet was a good size and nicely prepared, I ran out of the (side) salad it was served atop.
This was a satisfying meal, although not sure we’d seek it out again when we return to the area next year.
Although my Wayside Burger was very good, my wife's salad with grilled chicken was not. The salad part was OK but the chicken had a rubbery processed texture which made it uneatable. Our waitress was very good and the prices were reasonable but , we left dissatisfied.
Wayside Restaurant is located on a river with beautiful views. It is a familiar run establishment. The menu varies accurate to season. Food portions are generous. Focus is on New England comfort food. Delicious options!
Beautiful restaurant and surrounding scenery. Wonderful food and service. Comfortable temperature inside and music was perfect (both level of sound and choice of music).
Good food. Service was great.
This restaurant needs updating (broken window, rusty and broken radiator, chipped paint, etc.) and cleaning (dirty drink ware, streaky windows, etc.) . We ordered chicken parmesan, and it was disgusting - the “sauce” on the pasta had the consistency of water (we could splash it on the table just by hitting it with a fork), the sauce on top of the chicken was thick tomato paste. The chicken was too thin, and was black on almost the entire top half of the chicken, it was that burnt. The service was fine, our waiter was polite. The outside eating area looked nice.
The Wayside Inn is a wonderful spot for a delicious and relaxing meal overlooking the river while watching humming birds in the garden.
The Dining Room at the Wayside Inn, with its large windows, offers a beautiful view of the gardens and the peaceful, flowing Ammonoosuc River (optional outside seating is available). The food was outstanding and the service attentive but not bothersome. A definite high recommendation!!
This was one of the worst restaurant meals we’ve had in years! It was in the bottom five or so I recall - ever. I got MSG symptoms from my pasta dish, which means cheap ingredients. “Cream” sauce on pasta appeared to have been made from evaporated milk. Salad tomatoes too old and tired to try. Waiter didn’t know menu or much of anything about food and drink. Construction materials just outside the view window had been sitting on the deck a long while. Ugh, I can’t think of anything nice to say. We paid the bill and headed out to another restaurant for a glass of wine so we could end our evening on a better note - which we did.
As other recent Wayside Inn visitors have noted, the Inn is showing some age as far as the decor and furniture. (We hadn't explored the lodging areas while we were there and have no comment on their condition.) However, the food was really a hit for our recent party of eight at the restaurant. And I'm willing to give the "ambience" at least a score of "good" as the view of the river through the large windows is just as I had remembered from my previous visits.
I've got high hopes for the future of the Wayside Inn, if they're willing to give it at least a nominal face-lift as soon as they're able.
The atmosphere was beautiful and the staff was friendly. Food was nothing great but prices were decent and affordable. Highly recommend!
The new owners are doing a wonderful job. We were a party of four somewhat picky eaters and we were all delighted with our meals. The value was exceptional. It was April and very quiet on an early Thursday night. We will be returning, and soon!
The food and service was good - particularly a "special" mac and cheese dish with dates, gruyere, carmelized onions and mushrooms. Delish!!
Excellent dining experience, and Sarah has done a great job!
Food was cold, service horrible and restaurant was messy. Would never go again
A bit outdated but that's to be expected for this area. Food was delicious, though the crab cakes were our least favorite item. Outdated decor but great food for groups. We had 3 kids, 4 adults and were very comfortable.
We were pleasantly surprised as the restaurant is in an Inn in a very casual setting. The food was outstanding!
Excellent food, new owner is turning around this hotel and restaurant and is making progress in the restaurant. The pie was homemade and the entrees were delicious. Although the decor is outdated and needs to be refreshed, give this place a try, you will not be disappointed.
This is a casual place with a lovely setting. The dining room is situated right on the river with a fabulous view out of the huge windows. The food was good and prices as well. Very friendly staff and good service.
Food was great and you sit in a dining room with a wonderful view of the river.
A lot of history in this old Inn.
Great experience. Great menu, great service , terrific view and extraordinary value.
