The Way Back
Excellent service and food! Marcus, our wait staff, took great care of us and made several drink and food suggestions that we loved. A definite do-again!!!
Was a little concerned when I arrived as to the style of the place. However, it was a major surprise! The food was spectacular and the service excellent with great personality. Will be doing this location again soon.
Excellent cocktails, food and vibe. Abigail was also a gem- overall an great evening! Will definitely return and recommend The Way Back.
The menu is very creative, and it extends to vegetarian dishes, too.
Beautiful cocktails, seasonal and delicious dishes, all in an amazing space. They made my birthday dinner a truly magical experience. Thank you so much!
Food and service was fantastic
Amazing food, wonderful service. Glad they had vegetarian options. We will be back!
Everyone made our visit so fun!
While happy hour was good, dinner itself was overpriced and the food barely mediocre. 3 out of 4 of us had stomachaches later that night. They’re almost trying too hard to be hip. The service was good...and the place is a nice concept...but it’s not on our repeat list.
LOVED The Wayback! This will be our new neighborhood spot! Drinks and food were all delicious with an awesome atmosphere. My only suggestion would be for the servers to be more knowledgeable / up sell. I mentioned it was our first time coming and inquired about how the menu works/portions etc. and I felt we received a very broad basic response. This restaurant has a lot to offer and very swanky. Servers should certainly push that. We will definitely be back!!
We had a pescatarian in our party, and it was very easy to find delicious and satisfying dishes on the diverse menu for our group!
Anniversary dinner was fantastic!
A wonderful culinary experience. The service was exceptional (attentive yet chill). The restaurant was sleek and cozy at the same time. And, our dinner plates (we ordered three: Kung Pao chicken, the steelhead with coconut rice and a grilled cabbage with farro) were exquisite. Truly one of the most remarkable dinners I have ever hand: a feast for our senses.
What a cool place. Sinead was great! Only her second week serving but she knew the menu incredibly well and was so friendly and offered perfect amount of attentiveness to us.
Food was unique and fun with perfect combination of tastes. Loved the ambiance. The booths at front are not all that comfortable But there are tables in the back that look cozy! Would definitely go back.
It seemed they worked too hard at being different. Most of the food tasted good. But some was just too weird.
The food was a bit spicy/over the top for my tastes but I did enjoy the Kung Pao chicken. However $15 for a small plate/appetizer seems steep.
They need more servers!!
Gorgeous and delicious food. The okonmiyaki is a must get along with the Char but honestly everything was really good. Service was great and they have affordable happy hour items. Cocktails were spot on. Clean bathrooms and attentive servers.
Great food. Delicious and out of the ordinary. Great service and lovely decor and ambience.
Delicious vegetarian focused dishes. The kimichi dish was amazing
From a gorgeous pre dinner cocktail to a fun wine list the beverage program here is spot on. We did selection of f apps and entrees and shared between the three of us, all were delicious and provided enough to share and be fulfilled. I strongly suggest the pappardelle, cavatelli and newly added radish carpaccio is a must. These folks are doing it right in a hip part of town!
The Way Back provided a lovely experience: fun 80s music was pumping, the wait staff were all dressed in floral attire, the restaurant was full but not overcrowded.
Our waitress knew everything and was very competent, friendly, and attentive with great recommendations, and fun discussions!
We each did the prix fixe option which is a really good deal! And the food was lovely, incredibly distinct flavors, colors and textures, all balanced and nicely presented.
We’ll definitely return!!
While it's a cool place and the food was good the portions were extremely small for the price. The menu was somewhat limited and it was disappointing to spend $200 on a meal for 3 and still leave hungry.
Wonderful food. Out of this world fried chicken and dirty rice. Wait staff was wonderful. Drinks on point.
Loved it-delicious food, cozy & cool atmosphere w/ great music. I highly recommend this unique place.
Love this place! The ambiance, service and food were extraordinarily! Beautiful space to spend a beautiful evening with friends and family. Highly recommend;)!
Everything was great. Our server was super nice and not pushy or over bearing. Jared (one of the partners) swung by to check up, and we had a nice chat. We always get the okanomiyaki (sp?), Which is fantastic, but try to get new stuff as often as possible. Love their sourcing and their food. Keep up the great work!
Amazing and service was exceptional! Drinks and food was delicious!
Tiny portions left us but hungry despite ordering multiple plates.
Fantastic food and service. This was our second time and we are definitely going back.
Overall a nice evening. The Pappardelle was way too spicy for me so I took it home to my son. The swordfish and citrus salad were pretty good. We loved the collard greens and our favorite dish was the sirloin steak. The only reason for not giving it a 5 star is because the steak portion was small for the price and would not satisfy a hungry man.
Pod was delightful and so was our server. There were so many dishes we wanted to try on the menu so we will definitely be back.
Amazing food and service! Appreciate the culinary excellence and the well-crafted cocktails — all at a reasonable price. Everything our server recommended was so good.
Great food, excellent music!
Waiter a bit cold and put off!
Walking in the ambience is set with beautiful light fixtures and cozy green velvet couches. Our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The food was out of the world tasty. Everything we tasted I couldn’t get enough of. Can’t wait till we get to go again!!
Their fried chicken is sensational. Moist and crunchy. The table next to us had the roast chicken and were raving about it. We have been 3 times but never could resist ordering the fried chicken even though we know the roast chicken is superb. But it is so difficult to get excellent fried chicken we always pushed the roast chicken to “next time”. We ordered the dirty rice to complement the chicken and it was wonderful. Both dishes together is not for the health minded but was it “to die for”!
Their appetizers were v good too. The one with something like farm egg in the name/description was especially good. We always eat too much here but just could not resist.
Go to The Way Back! The food is amazing and staff is friendly. Get the okonomiyaki! You won’t be disappointed.
I saw pictures of this restaurant online and decided to book a reservation to take my sister for her birthday. The online pictures showed beautiful decor that included white table cloths and cool light fixtures. Unfortunately, only half of the restaurant is decorated as it shows online.
We ended up at a booth in the bar area, which has a very different feel from the other half of the restaurant. It was extremely loud as a result of another large party, which is not the fault of the restaurant, it just happened to be that way. It was difficult to hear each other though.
I normally would not mind being seated at a booth in the bar, but for what we were paying for very small shareable dishes, I would hope to be in a nicer environment.
The server was great though, and the food tasted good overall.
The staff was wonderful and made my birthday dinner even more special. The issue is that a few of us had stomach issues that evening and into the next day.
Immediately upon walking in you can tell The Way Back brings the vibes. From the retro bar that lines the left side entrance, the gorgeous wooden booths that line the right, amazing lighting, a rose petal wallpapered ceiling, and the famous hanging plant and candles, I think my first words were "I love this".
We were greeted right away by an incredible server, who was gracious, friendly, helpful, and just really made the whole experience. She took the time to explain the menu to us, pointed out favorites, offered suggestions when asked, and made the dinner feel more like an occasion by providing top notch service.
We ordered the farmer's market sushi, the kung pao beef, the dirty rice, pappardelle, and swordfish. The "sushi" came out first, which was a beautifully rolled medley of veggies. I swear upon tasting it you would think it was fish! There was a sauce on there my palette is not sophisticated enough to identify, but it was delicious. After trying that first dish, we knew we were in for a culinary treat.
When the rest of the dishes came, each was more impressive than the last. The dirty rice was rich and an excellent side, but was totally upstaged by the colorful, flavor-packed, and completely amazing Kung Pao Beef. Definitely order this! The pappardelle was prepared perfectly- thick and soft without a trace of mushiness. The sauce was a great mix of flavors I don't think I've ever had anywhere else, and the veggie additions complimented the pasta perfectly. My husband's swordfish was out of this world. It was absolutely amazing, and all of the plate's additions of veggies and sauces worked beautifully together.
We both left completely full and couldn't stop talking about how it may have been the best meal we've had in Denver. The food was just wonderful, honestly. The restaurant's impeccable service, availability of a sommelier, beautiful decor, and unbelievable food make this an absolute must try. Five star experience through and through!
