The Waters Edge Grille - Okoboji
Just a brief review. Our reservations were for a Saturday night at 6:30. We were greeted and seated timely, and our drinks came out on time and well made. The salads were fine. The entrees arrived, and that's where things broke down. A steak ordered "medium plus" arrived cooked to "old saddle leather." The waitress offered to replace it with the ominous warning that "it could take a while, we're getting busy." My wife made a game attempt at eating what was served, but its food value had long expired, so it was left mostly uneaten. A glass of wine ordered to be enjoyed with the entree arrived with the now complementary and long delayed dessert. By the time the check arrived, we felt as if we had been held hostage in a bad Denny's.
Remembering that one is in Okoboji in the off-season, Waters Edge Grille is a perfectly adequate restaurant. However, well-run establishments don't overwhelm their kitchens and their wait staffs. They limit their reservations to match their capacity. Further, well-run establishments know how to remedy a kitchen error with alacrity.
Absolutely love coming here! The service is always super nice and timely and the food is great!
The waiter was attentive, but not very informative. The food was average at best and the prices were outrageous for the quality of food that was served. Unfortunately, not impressed.
I would recommend Waters Edge but they did not have our reservation that I made thru open table. My reservation confirmation number was 2109786552. Since they couldn’t find my reservation we had to wait over an hour for a table for two. This greatly diminished our experience since we had other plans after dinner. I have used open table before without any issues so this surprised me.
Turn down the music. Is way too loud and the music is unnecessary
Paige was our server and did an excellent job. She eww as very friendly and professional.
Our waitress was wonderful! Friendly, helpful and patient with us. When she found out we were celebrating our parents' 60th Anniversary, she surprised them with a complimentary dessert, complete with writing around the plate in raspberry sauce and two glasses of champagne. Very sweet - and much appreciated on our special family night out!
Dined on a busy holiday week-end. We were greeted and seated promptly, but took a long time to see a server. When we did the service was courteous and prompt. My husband had the baseball sirloin which was tender and flavorful. I had the Parmesan encrusted wall eye, which also was very good. The entrees are ala carte which quickly adds to overall cost .
The room was a little noisy, but we were able to carry on a conversation. There is a beautiful view of the lake. I would go back, and would recommend
Ordered walleye and told waiter it was not good and did not taste well. He asked my husband what he thought of it; as if my comment was not valid. He later offered to bring something else. Ordered a Beet salad. Was basically 1/2 bag of spring greens mix with about 6 mandarin oranges on the side, some sprinkles of goat cheese, a smattering of walnuts and few slices of beets. Dressing was good. Seriously, basically a bag of lettuce. Restaurant had been recommended to us; what a letdown.
The calamari was awful!!!! Greasy and over fried in a horrible seasoning. Tough as leather. The manager replaced with a different appetizer that was O K. The walleye was very good and the duck was top notch, especially the sauce. The highlight of the evening was our waitress Alix! She was fabulous!
The walleye was a little bland. Needed more dill sauce. Would not get this again.
to pricey for the poor service and just ok food. Service is extremely slow.
Wonderful meal and awesome service. We had a very enjoyable evening celebrating a 60th Birthday!
We went to celebrate my parents 61st anniversary. The seating was lakeside. The weather was great, wonderful views. Service was outstanding. Food was great. Overall, a wonderful experience. We have never had bad service or a bad meal here.
Thank you for delivering once again! The Waters Edge Grille is hands down our favorite place to eat around here.
On this occasion we celebrated two family birthdays with our family and the staff impressed.
We can’t say enough about this place!!!!
Great ambiance. Great service. Love the menu. The food prep has slipped a tiny bit - don’t let it slip anymore.
It’s the best place to eat in and around okoboji. Kell bell
Excellent service and our meal was outstanding! The view was beautiful!
15 person groups usually mean trouble for restaurants . These guys did great for our group this week!
Food was excellent, service attentive, all orders filled perfectly, timely delivery
I would highly recommend them!!
Try the corn bread, scallops, Brussels sprouts, and walleye
Good but loud.
Beautiful setting and lovely service. Food was ok.
Great location and very delicious food! Staff is friendly and welcoming! Beautiful restaurant!
We enjoyed a delightful waitress that promised us good food and that’s exactly what we got,
We got there and were tried to be seated at a table for 6 and we had reservations for 7, food took more then an hour, order was wrong, food was ice cooked and burnt. We have. $210 tab and I had asked twice to talk to manager. It wasn’t until after we paid I finally was able to talk to him. In my opinion the service was poor, management had no control over the quality and the price for what we received was over priced. I will never return. Funny thing is we weren’t the only table with issues.
I don’t like that you took one of my favorite items off the appetizer list. It was new this year but only there for a couple weeks. I also think the wait staff has too many tables to handle
Great food with a view! The duck was amazing.
We made an online reservation and that was very convenient and got seated quickly once there, but there wasn't much great after that. The service was excellent, but the food left a lot lacking. 4 of us ordered steak, 2 medium and 2 medium rare, and they all came out at a different level of done. The medium rares were both barely rare, and the mediums were both cooked differently, one more medium and one what would be considered medium rare. Considering the steaks were $30 and up, I was hoping to have a great steak. After sending it back to be cooked more, I finally got to eat it more how I liked, and it was one of the most bland steaks I've ever had. All I could taste was the char of the grill, and almost no seasoning. Spent $38 on a 14oz ribeye and it tasted like something I could have spent $10 on. 2/5
Very slow service but atmosphere is great. Awesome view of the lake. Food was good.
The service was excellent and food was delicious, however one out of four dishes was not at proper temperature (slightly cold).
Great night out. Food was amazing. Salads very fresh and loved crab cake crepe.
Don't waste your money. They didnt hold our reservation though we were 5 minutes early; ended uo sitting next to noisy wait station instead of deck and there sat open outdoor tables the entire time we were there. Not sure why they wouldn't seat us there. Hostess didn't seem to care. Should have just left right there and then. Cheese on shrimp? Horrible. Dry, flavorless walleye. Rubbery cheese on caprese. Not enough sauce on crab cake. Corn bread was dry. Honestly, I've had better food at Long John Silver.
Took the wife out for supper and it was really nice. She had the crab crepes and I had the Parmesan walleye. We had the callemare as an appetizer. Our waitress was really good.
Had a great meal. Shared the beet salad, plenty for two. Scallops and walleye we're done to perfection. Was slow to get a waiter but once they showed up all was good.
The Waterfront is actually the name of the restaurant, which is my first comment - it was so hard to find the restaurant because the name on our reservation is different than the actual name of the restaurant. Once we figured that out - it was crazy figuring out where to park and then where to find the restaurant. Not my favorite for that. The restaurant was lovely. It was big and the outside patio was lovely. The food was a bit pricey for what it was. I had a beet salad that was all lettuce with a few beet slices and crumbles of feta. The wait staff was awesome and very friendly. The rest of my party had food that they gobbled down. (steak was one and the other had the walleye). We did not opt for dessert.
Wedding taking place next to terrace was noisy and distracting, especially when the post-ceremony reception spilled in to the dining room. A little separation would have been nice. Luckily the food was outstanding.
Let me start by saying that the atmosphere and service were amazing on Memorial Day weekend. The spicy margarita was delicious and the beer and wine were priced right. The menu looked great, with an impressive variety, however, the food left me disappointed and regretful of my dining choice.
We chose the crab and artichoke dip to start and before it arrived ordered the curry chicken crepe, Dijon crusted salmon, cornbread, and wild mushroom risotto.
The piping hot, skillet-served dip would have been delicious if it weren’t filled with an overwhelming amount of surimi (imitation crab). The menu made no mention of any substitution nor did the price tag reflect it. The skillet cornbread brûlée was unremarkable, and the salmon was good!
However, the curry and chicken crepe was nothing less than confusing: a crepe filled with basmati rice, a dollop of curry sauce, and an asparagus spear served beside a grilled chicken thigh, more curry sauce, and more asparagus. I cannot understand why on earth someone would think filling a crepe with mostly plain rice made any sense. The risotto did include tasty mushrooms, but was very watery with the rice much harder than al dente and stuck into chunks.
This meal was disappointing, but as a restaurant in a tourist destination I guess you don’t have to rely on repeat business.
This is our favorite restaurant of the Okoboji lakes area. It’s sunset views are unsurpassed and the outdoor seating makes the experience even better. Amanda was attentive and made the evening special. We had a member of our party who is a vegan and they have salads that can be adjusted and she had the beet salad that was excellent. They also have a gluten free crust and veggie pizza with available vegan cheese. I had the baseball cut sirloin that is always good. My wife had the tenderloin filet and it was perfect. The salmon is well prepared and they serve a wonderful diver scallops.
Great location, although our GPS had some difficulty finding it! Brussels sprouts were very tasty, and the cheeseburger/fries were good. Portion of French fries was quite small. My MoscowMule was the best I've had!
