The Waters Edge at Giovanni's Ratings and Reviews
Food was very good. The waiter, however, was poor. He seemed as though he did not care, did not understand his own wine list, forgot to serve an item that was ordered, and , when giving me the bill, did nit say thank you or anything else..... simply placed it on the table. I did speak with the manager about the experience...... perhaps he will deal with it.
My friends, myself and my husband dined and danced last night (New Year’s Eve Dinner) and we were so happy with everything. The food was simply amazing. What a deal!? $75 for a four course meal and on top of that, we were blown away by being lead to the ballroom for tons of dessert, music and coffee and hot cocoa. It was the best party ever. We would go there again next year!!!
My family came to the restaurant for a New Year's Eve sit down dinner. Open table reservation revealed the menu. On that menu coffee and dessert were included. We were looking forward to tirimusu or Italian cheesecake. We were denied all three after paying $400 for dinner which included a generous tip!
We were told to go to a different room for coffee and dessert and was told we had to wait at least an hour!
We will never step foot in your restaurant ever again!
The food and service were above normal as it has been on previous visits. It would have been nice if the waiter introduced himself by name, Also, a gentleman, presumably the owner, gave preference to certain tables and totally ignored others, including ours. This made us feel ill at ease and not wanted.
Giovanni's is a really lovely old school Italian restaurant with consistently great food. No one will rush you through your meal and Giovanni will stop by your table to make sure everything is to your liking. The atmosphere is relaxed and conducive to conversation.
I took my wife here for a birthday dinner and not only did she absolutely love the food and service, but I myself was very impressed with the whole experience that evening. It started with our waiter George, he is fantastic. Very friendly and attentive . Then the wine, excellent ! Now the steak.... Absolutely one of the best I ever had. I ordered the 48oz Long Bone for myself and ate every bit. They were a bit shocked since that is really a steak for two. My wife had the NY Strip and absolutely loved it and also ate it all ! I highly recommend The Waters Edge at Giovanni's for that special occasion or just a great meal with great service.
My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary on May 30th. We got married at Giovannis back in 1992 and had not been back since! Sal made us feel so welcome and special and even brought us a complimentary bottle of champagne! He talked about our wedding as he remembered it from all those years ago and asked about our family/children! The dinner was so special and memorable, not to mention the excellent cuisine, that we are looking forward to going back and bringing the entire family! There is a reason why this restaurant/venue has been in business so long and it is their personal touch and commitment to excellence!
The clams oreganato appetizer was bad and had to be sent back . Shrimp cocktail was delicious
Main courses were ok but nothing exceptional .
Main dining room is attractive and the service was very good
The waiter did try to make up for the dinners with a free dessert ( which was delicious ) but not planned on
Good uncomplicated food! The service here is one of the best elements, with a friendly staff that seems to want nothing more than to please their guests. It is especially nice to see Giovanni going table to table to greet his guests- things like this are lost arts in the restaurant business.
Fantastic place I found on my last night in Connecticut. After making my Open Table reservation they had a table ready for me and made sure it was separate from a large group.
The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The menu was great. I loved the $38 Price Fixe. Had an appetizer, salad, filet mignon and lobster, and a desert. Fantastic deal for $38 dollars.
I will definitely go back next time I am in CT.
My husband loves a good steak and Giovanni's delivers every time. This place is a throwback to the old school steakhouse..older decor, older waiters, older patrons. We both opted for the prix fix menu which was tiered and provided good choices. I got a lamb chip which was fine..not spectacular, and my husband got a porterhouse which was nicely prepared.
Despite the place being half empty, service was slow and took almost three hours....too long. We were not shown a wine list and had to rely on the sister's recommendations. He steered us to a $45 bottle of red. The wine was fine, but it arrived cold...not chilled...cold.
If they can figure out how to speed things up and store the red wine properly we would give Giovanni's another chance.
Surprisingly disappointing. Arrived for early 5:30 dinner. Ordered 1 price fix filet and the scallop picatta special. Shrimp cocktail was good, salad and bread very good. After watching the surrounding tables complaining non-stop our dinners arrived. Filet was clearly previously frozen. While cut, pink yet not a bit of juice came out. NO flavor at all. Vegetables were water logged like an over cooked noodle. Scallops were good, risotto was horrendous. Not bad, horrendous. Wife ordered creme brûlée as the dessert in price fix meal. Burnt. Then I'll comes with dessert charged. Was told the $7 was an extra charge for picking that as the dessert. Lie because price on menu was $7. They clearly overcharged and wouldn't remove it. Came to $65 after a $75 gift card. I felt $65 was ever over paying. Listening to surrounding tables complain about drinks and bland food I am truly surprised how this place has high feedback and remains open charging their prices.
Saw an ad on Facebook and hadn't been to this spot in many years so decided to give very it a try. They offer several fixed price options, though the best value menu was on the table but not pointed out to us. They have a good kids menu (had our grandaughter with us), and staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. We all had steak, with one meal a surf and turf - crab leg and a choice of steak. The crab leg was excellent. Good salad and good shrimp cocktail to start. Garlic bread was served as soon as we sat down but it was kind of awful - DRENCHED in a very oily, very garlicky spread - if you care about yourself, or your neighbors, be careful when eating it!
This was hands down the worst meal and restaurant we have been to in a while. Our server ruined our evening. He was disinterested and walked away from our table right in the middle of our ordering because we chose our own wine and did not select a bottle which was on special for the eveing. Or apps took forever and the place was not busy. He kept saying it was because I had oredered raw oysters and they were fresh. What other kind of oysters would one eat? Never again.
Unfortunately our NYE dinner was not very good. Our servers were very nice but seemed inexperienced. Our bottle of wine arrived halfway through the meal, the lobster was inedible. New Year's Eve wasn't quite ruined (we had a few laughs at the absurdity of the evening) but we will not be going back. We went to a wedding here a few years ago and it was great, but I don't think this is the right place for a good dinner for two.
