We enjoyed the "Dine About Town' promotion to get to revisit this operation.
While I find Waterfront fine for lunch, our dinner experience left something to be desired. Service was exceedingly s-l-o-w. Staff were very nice. Views from 2nd floor were exceptional (and that from an SF native). Ahi tuna and pancetta wrapped prawns were very good; the rest of our selections were just so-so.
Great food and great place. Exceptional service.
Great service, good and location. Great experience!
I went here for Dine About Town. I ordered Calamari, Steak, and Sticky Toffee Pudding. The food was average. The steak was cooked medium rare just how i liked it but there was not that much flavor to it. I have been to other places where the steak was excellent (Flora in Oakland). Sticky toffee pudding was just ok, a little too sweet, it's not the normal sticky tofee pudding that I was used to.
The service was excellent, but the food was just ok.
This is a venerable restaurant, one we have visited from time to time. It could use a little menu upgrade--a bit more variety, expecially the starters and desserts--the latter were really limited and uninteresting. Also a few less expensive entres. Overall, we had a pleasant experience, and the wait staff were professional and pleasant. The bartenders could use a bit more personality.
Food exceeded my expectations for an Embarcadero-wharf restaurant. It is pricey (location, view, etc) but not disappointing.
I went here for Dine About Town so I had their Prix Fixe Menu. The food was EXCELLENT! My friend and I both had the seafood pasta, which was cooked to a tee. The creme brulee was perfectly smooth and silky. The staff was very friendly, but our server kept changing. The first waitress was great. We explained we were there for Dine About Town and she helped us pick out a white wine for our seafood. The wine list here was moderate but not impressive. After that our waitress checked in a couple times and then we didn't see her until the end of the meal, after we had finished dessert. Two other staff took our dessert order. The first only returned with dessert menus. The second took our order and then returned with the actual dessert.
Went for restaurant week. Not exactly my style. Typical old money fuddy duddies in their tweed harking on and ON AND ON about how much this was and how much that cost. Really annoying crowd. The Flat ironed steak was pretty damn good though. So like my review says, it has good service and a poor ambiance. If you dont mind hearing people rant and rave about their money problems, "Oh geez, that flight to x, y, or z was so expensive" and, "can you believe Im closing a deal worth roughly 3.5 mill" and enjoy a nice classically prepared meal, then this place is for you. If not, there are PLENTY of other places that fit the bill minus the ostentatious wanna be crowd.
Good waitress but in need of a new hostess! The restaurant was empty, the hostess seated us next to the only other occupied table out of about 50 choices. When we returned in the late afternoon to claim a forgotten scarf the hostess looked at her watch and glared at us until she realized why we were there. GET A NEW HOSTESS !!!
The food was great. The service was good. Very attentive. Water and bread was always refilled.
We were a group of 8 for lunch. Everyone raved about the place! Food and service were top notch!
Made reservations for dine about town. The restaurant was very accomodating when we needed to add an additional 2 people to our table a half hour before our seating. Our group likes to share food. Almost everything we ate was great...the clam chowder, seafood pasta, flat iron steak, and the escolar. The salads were okay...I hate when they serve you caesar salad where you have to cut the romaine lettuce stalks to eat it. The desserts were okay...we ordered the chocolate fondant and the sticky pudding. Both desserts were way too sweet for most of us. The view and the service at the restaurant was excellent. Would definitely come back for happy hour ($o.99 oysters) or for a special occasion.
The Waterfront is near my office but I had never been. My friend & I decided to try it for lunch. The food was great, service was quick and attentive & a nice view. The waiter gave us good recommendations when we asked about the menu & wine list. I'll definitely go back.
This was one of two restaurants recommended to us by our hotel concierge. We ate there after a full day out seeing the sights around San Francisco. Admittedly, we were not dressed to the nines, but I had been told by locals that sneakers and jeans will pass for almost any restaurant. However, our waitress clearly took our casual clothes as an indication that we were not deserving of quality service. No specials, an extended waiting time to give our order, the wrong cocktails, and an overall anxiousness to get us out the door. Don't bother. Try La Mar - the other concierge recommendation.
We've been there twice, and both times have been fantastic. I wouldn't change a thing, except maybe a little more variety.
The view from The Waterfront is great and the reason we decided to take our out of town guests here for dinner. Everyone enjoyed gazing out on the Bay Bridge and agreed the location was pretty special. Unfortunately, that's about all this restaurant has going for it. The service was casual, bordering on unprofessional, and the staff tried to up-sell us on everything from appetizers to entrees. The food was mediocre at best and outrageously overpriced. The last straw for me was at the end of the evening when our waitress aggressively pushed our tourist friends to take a Town Car back to their hotel, stating that "you'll never find a cab at this hour - they won't stop for you". It was 10pm on a Saturday night! Bottom line: TOURIST TRAP! Avoid
The best clam chowder and the dungeness crab sandwich is fantastic.
I went there for my sister's birthday. They took great care of us, bringing out extra appetizers and port on the house to celebrate the event. The food was great, service was fast, and the view was lovely. It was a great spot for the special occasion.
Great place if you like seafood! Everything tasted really fresh and delicious and you get a lovely view of the bay. The crab mashed potatoes have really big chunks of crab in them and the sole was cooked perfectly! A great way to end your day by the water in San Francisco.
We were 20 mins. early for our reservation, but they seated us within 10 mins. Food was good, but we were really, really hungry, and had to ask for bread 3 times, and they only gave 1 piece per person, and didn't leave any extra bread. Also, I asked for my linguini not to be spicy, but was spicy, so they had to take it back and give me another dish. Lastly, I had to keep asking for our water glasses to be refilled (small glasses used).
Views are of a pier, the Bay Bridge, Yerba Buena Island, and Alameda. Food quality above average but not exceptional. Prices are reasonable. People go for the view and waterfront location, and for fresh seafood, but there may be better of both elsewhere in SF. Service is inconsistent and can even be loud and aggressive.
Very good food but the service was slow even though the restaurant was not crowded. Wonderful view. Worth a try if you're not in a rush.
Presntation and flavor was amazing
I love this restaurant. The food is absolutely delicious. I love the calamari and ciappino!
This has been a reliable restaurant for food and service for years. I think we had on off service night because of the Prom but I would not pass it up. Most days it is impeccable.
Did not have good service or good food. This place is a total TOURIST TRAP.
Very nice place to eat, view is great
Mother's Day Brunch. Got shunted off to an upstairs seldom used overflow dining room w/o the fun of the more public rooms, or views! We should have asked to be moved and I'm sure they would have obliged becasue another more discerning threesome came in and asked for a btter spot and got it. I had a very decent seafood pasta and my wife had an over dressed seafood Cobb salad. Skipped dessert and headed up the boulevard to TCHO for their hand made chocolate infused Mocha latte and espresso which ARE TO DIE FOR! All the dessert you'll ever need.
Outstanding seafood restaurant on the Embarcadero in San Francisco - Great food and service - Valet parking adjacent to restaurant -
This was our wedding dinner, the staff accommodate our wishes to make this something special! The service was outstanding only matched by the wonderful food. This restaurant is a must try if you are visiting the Embaraderro area.
this was not a pleasant experience - although the view is wonderful and the weather was gorgeous the restaurant and the kitchen were not prepared to serve the number of people who were seated, the service was shoddy and the food mediocre. when making the reservation I'd requested a meeting with private dining so we could book a private party in August. (we are local residents) Nobody was available to meet with us, the owner was on the premises but would not meet with us. Very disappointing.
BEWARE! Food and service were excellent. However, the bill contained serious overcharges for two bottles of wine and two desserts never ordered nor consumed. CHECK YOUR BILL CAREFULLY. I don't know if this is a recurrent pattern or a one time mistake.
Requested a window table for foreign guests in our party to enjoy the scenic view. Did not happen. Ordered a bottle of champagne from the wine list (Schramsberg Blanc de Blanc 2005), was brought a different bottle (Cremant) and was told the one I ordered was a typo on the list. Food slow to come. Omelets spent a good deal of time under the heat lamp as we waited for them to be served: dry and crusty. Clumsy clearing staff dropped silverware as they cleared each time: Noisy! Appetizers were good: Mussels and Calamari). We will not risk another special occasion with guests at this spot. They really could not have cared any less that we were there, even though I spent $265!
The clam chowder was the best we had on the trip and we tried a lot of soups. The seafood pasta was great. I had the cioppino which was okay. The broth could have used a kick.
The food and service were fantastic
A perfect place for "showing off" vibrant water views, fabulous food, wonderful wine and thoughtful service.
When in doubt, go to the Waterfront!
This place was great! If your looking for something with a great view of the bay and the bridge, for something a little touch of romance and charm, go here! I could reserve dining even the same night I planned to arrive at the Waterfront, made it nice and easy to get in without waiting. Originally we had been seated at the upper level in the front of the restaurant. My girlfriend really wanted a closer view of the bay and the Waterfront team had no problem relocating us to seating where there was a beautiful view of the bay out on the covered patio. The food was great, you get what you want for the price and the service was exceptional!
This restaurant's the view beats the food by far. The staff was pleasant and helpful, even though one of the side dishes never reached us. (The waitress quickly accepted blame and took the charge off the bill.) The side dishes were lukewarm, not hot. Main courses were okay but not spectacular. Definitely not a destination restaurant.
Our cocktails were watered down and service was extremely slow. Our waiter apologized on many occasions for not taking our orders right away and that he was extremely busy. I had a total of 3 cosmos and it was like drinking fruit juice. Normally 2 cosmos would suffice but I had 3 at Waterfront and it was horrible. My party and I had to walk over to a pub called Grumpys to get good solid drinks. This is my 3rd time at the Waterfront but my first time inviting friends with me. I was really embarrassed of the outcome of our dinner experience together. Also, their seafood pasta was very bland. Two of my friends ordered the pasta dish and was very disappointed. Waterfront is an expensive restaurant and should provide better service.
