The Waterfront Restaurant and Cafe Ratings and Reviews
The view is fabulous! The service was excellent (half empty restaurant may have helped that). The food was average and for the price paid it should have been excellent. Two fish dishes (halibut and sea bass were both overcooked and dry). Pay for the view, but don't expect a gourmet meal.
We went for Thanksgiving and celebrating a birthday and was pretty disappointed. First off they said I was a no show when instead they had me wait 15 mins on my reservation. We then waited a half hour for our appetizer and another half hour for dinner and they ran out of all the desserts we wanted on a prefix menu. I saw 2 other tables complain about the wait and mediocre food. The only plus was the view of the bay bridge.
Horrible, horrible service...ordered 2 virgin drinks but they come filled with liquor (never deducted from bill), brings soups & NO spoons, brings TG Turkey dinner & NO knife to cut with, says will bring water, then gone x 10 mins & we are choking, have to remind her x & y & z. 7:00pm reservation honored at 7:35 or 7:40pm. Omg. Food quality was good.
We went for Thanksgiving and were had very bad service. Lots of problems across the entire meal. We requested seating downstairs but were seated upstairs. Waitress could not remember our dinner order, could not remember our drink order or to bring bread after multiple requests. Wrong food served, delays in bar orders, delays in food orders, only dark meat on the traditional turkey dinner (no white breast meat), hot soup served cold, dessert took over an hour to be served even after speaking to the manager and when it was served it was not as ordered because they had run out of the item we ordered and insisted that we could only have what they had left. Manager did not even bother to return to talk to us about the problems. People at the tables across from us with a different server seemed to have no problems or delays. Several tables came and went in the hour we waited for desserts we never even enjoyed. While the location is lovely, the service was awful and the manager's response or lack of personal attention to a problem made the experience that much more disappointing.
We ate Thanksgiving dinner there. I know what it's like with a prix fixe menu and a huge crowd of people. Maybe they shouldn't have had risotto on the menu (as a first course), maybe it was too tricky, maybe not many people ordered it so it wasn't ready, but it was undercooked and nearly flavorless. The rest of the dinner was fine, we had the turkey which was good, except that the stuffing/dressing was very dry. Then it took 25 minutes after they took our dinner plates away to get our desserts. Our waiter was fine. I've eaten here before when it wasn't a holiday prix fixe menu and it was much better. So while I recommend the place, maybe not for a holiday dinner.
We visited for thanksgiving dinner we have various food intolerances so when I made the reservation I asked whether we could order off of the regular menu and we were assured that we could. But when we arrived we were told that we could only order off of the special prix fix menu. Somehow we managed but it was a struggle.
It was Thanksgiving Day dinner and for the price even though it was price fixed you would think to offer extra helpings as if it would cost much. Had to ask for extra gravy and cranberry sauce disappointed. I was rushed into my main course almost after receiving my appetizer and cocktail. Will not go there for Thanksgiving ever again there must be better places for the price was not cheap.
While the setting was beautiful, and a perfect place to watch the light show on the Bay Bridge, we were so disappointed in the food. The quality was not only low, but the food was over cooked on some and under on other items. The food was incredibly overpriced as well. What a disappointment!
I had the crab louis. It was small, the louis dressing was hideen under a lettuce leaf on one end of the plate, and there was a non-descript itaian dressing on the rest of the plate. Is this intentional? Did you run out of Louis? I like your staff and your drinks, but the food over all is decidedly mediocre, I am sorry to say.
Hard to find a better view than here. Oakland Bridge looks magnificent in the background. We had the scallops and the sea bass, and both were incredibly tasty! Just note that if you are *really* hungry, the entrees by themselves may likely not fill your belly, so be prepared to get an appetizer + side. Great spot though, and super friendly and professional staff, would definitely go back sometime!
NewYork steak was good choice but scallops seafood got some little rock hurt my teeth when I bite it. Server blamed that was sea salt, but it hard like a rock almost break my teeth. Lobster was not fresh or over cooked it stick to the shell so well. Nice view to see the Bay bridge.
We took the last reservation which was at 9:00pm. I will say we were 15 mins late but the rest of our party was on time. We did not get complimentary bread until a half hour in, the server asked us if we were ready to order 4 times in 15 mins and we were basically rushed out of the restaurant. This was very apparent when they started stacking chairs all around us before 11:00pm. The only positive was the bay bridge view during dinner. This restaurant is considered "high end" and for the price you are paying for the food I better have darn good service. The food was good not great and the overall service experience wasn't good. I would not recommend this restaurant and they could use some schooling on proper service from a high end restaurant. Oh, and there was no music of any kind, just servers walking around you waiting for you to leave. Also, if you don't want someone staying late and enjoying their dinner, then don't have a 9:00pm reservation and expect us to be done in an hour.
Anniversary dinner, overall experience was fair. The staff started cleaning and preparing to close around 9:30pm, while we were still eating. Atmosphere was poor despite a great view of the Bay Bridge. Food was excellent and our server was decent but also got busy doing closing chores. Very disappointing considering it’s a Saturday night.
This was my first visit to Waterfront, it was pleasant and the views outstanding. The food was OK, as was the service. The wine list was also OK but lacked international variety.
With so many delicious restaurants in SF it is unlikely I'll return. But the view of the Bay Bridge at night was memorable.
We were 8-10 min late for our reservation. We had to sit for 10-15 min more. OK, but then after being seated no waiter came to take any order for at least another 10 min, and then it would take a very long time to get anything after. The waiter who ultimately appeared was very nice, but what could have been a pleasant 1 1/4 dinner turned out to be 2 hrs (and this is not one of those times when one wants to dine leisurely over many hours). The only saving grace is the tastiness of the food.
I absolutely LOVE the Waterfront!! The food is amazing! I have not had a bad meal. The mash potatoes with crab…simple divine! In addition, please note I do not like Lobster, but once I tasted the Lobster Mac and Cheese..., all I can say is Damn, Damn, Damn make you want to slap somebody! Let us not forget a couple of my favorites the fried calamari and the Myers Lemon cheesecake. I take my out of town guest there and they like it as much as I do and, they always ask to go back when they come to town. Thank you Mr. Waterfront for a spectacular Restaurant with FABULOUS views. Five Stars and 2 thumbs up!!
