Very good meal, attentive staff. I miss the pre-covid experience however
This room was uncomfortably drafty. I felt chilly detracting from my experience. I would call the food 'too foo foo."
It is overpriced and the food does not measure up to the prices. Gruyere 'biscuits, not biscuits at all. Bisque, a little watery for my taste. Well, you get the picture.
Great food and great service. Cocktails were amazing.
The place is beautiful and the food is delicious. I definitely recommend this place.
A lovely experience for a special occasion. Food and service was fantastic and justified the cost. And the old Vail mansion is a beautiful venue. The Washington Room with it's view of the front courtyard and reflecting pool was a perfect setting for a get together of old friends and family who wanted to have great conversation not being drowned out by loud music or a noisy bar.
A fine experience including a tasteful menu, prompt service, beautiful scenery, and welcoming staff.
We paid for the prix fixe New Years Eve dinner which was supposed to include a live band after dinner. We were never notified prior to arriving that the band had canceled for the evening. We totally understand their canceling with the rise in covid and do not blame them. We finished our amazing dinner served by the best staff, and asked where the band would be playing. Which was the time we learned they had canceled. Leaving us with no plans for the rest of the night. All patrons that reserved for this special should have been notified immediately so we could have made prior plans after dinner. Pretty lame for management to do this on New Years Eve.
As usual Chris and his staff never disappoint. The octopus was the star of the night, however everything else was to die for.
Loved. One of the best restaurants I have ever been to.
Wonderful - Definitely one of the best restaurants around. And the food is fantastic - creative and delicious
Outstanding pre-Christmas dinner
Excellent dinner and service. It was a five star experience for me and my family,
Amazing experience all around. Ambiance was classy and quiet, staff/service was second to none, and the food was incredible. Highly recommend.
Seemingly disorganized front of the house. Waited almost an hour after our reservation time, to be seated. No real explanations, no attempts to remedy with at least a glass of wine or something. Food order took forever. Food was hit or miss- pappardelle w lamb ragú a miss.
My husband and I came here for our first date night after having our first son. We are foodies, so we looked into fun restaurants in the area and this came up. We went on a Thursday night, which I think helped in regards to making a reservation, since The Washington Room has limited seating. We also really liked that they had another bar and a beer hall in the same place as well, so you can switch it up next time. We had the table near the window that overlooked the water feature (we had a 6:30 reservation, so unfortunately we couldn't see much, but now we know what table to request if we were to go back in the summer). We had the biscuits and caesar salad to start, my husband had the wagyu steak, I had the scallops, and we got the apple tart and naked cookie pie cake for dessert. We also ordered a bottle of the orange wine from Italy. Overall, the food was very good, no complaints! We also had great service that was timely and we didn't feel rushed.
In the end, I would definitely go back. I probably would go to the bar or beer hall area to try out the other more casual options. If we had our parents in town and wanted to do something special, this is a place I would consider.
One thing we thought was weird is we parked in the garage and we knew from the website that we could enter the restaurant through the elevator. However, when you get off the elevator you legit walk through the back entrance where the waiters are folding napkins and you see the kitchen staff. We thought that was a bit odd. If you are going to offer this as a way to enter, one would think it would be more apparent that it was an entrance for guests and that you aren't walking through the back of the house space.
Overall was very good. The only let down was the pasta with the additional truffle offering. There was zero truffle flavor for the additional $18 paid. When brought to servers attention he tried to describe what they were suppose to taste like. We're very familiar with how truffles taste, we've eaten them countless times here and across Europe. Don't know what happened there but was definitely not worth the additional fee. Portion size was a bit confusing, Caesar was massive as was the Naked chocolate chip cake, very good just surprisingly large. Seafood dishes were our favorite, the fluke crudo and kung Pao octopus, we enjoyed very much.
Washington Room was quieter than other two rooms. When first arrived, tried to seat us next to another table in the back room. Thankfully agreed to move us into main room at request. Food was very good, but also extremely expensive. Would be interested to try one of the other dining rooms.
Delicious food and very accommodating service staff was attentive to dietary needs. Noise level was fine until near the end of eating where a big loud group was sat next to us
Very good food in a lovely old mansion! Not cheap, but a great occasion destination!
Outstanding service, uniquely presented wine list and amazing locally sourced menu.
1st time here, enjoyed everything, great service, look forward to coming back.
Lovely dining experience!! I chose this restaurant because they require vaccinations- I wish all restaurants did this!
Trying too hard and providing vague or inaccurate descriptions of dishes does not bode well. Wine steward was rude but rest of service staff excellent. Dial back unpronounceable ingredients and work toward doing a better job with less esoteric preparations.
The food was excellent and the cocktails were even better. Will definitely return once it reopens.
Cannonball dinner is amazing and so is the staff
Staff was attentive, gave wonderful recommendations
This restaurant just didn't add up for us. We found the food to be overpriced for the quality. The staff was inexperienced. The ambiance was lovely, but not worth the expense. Sadly, we will not return to the Washington Room at this establishment. We may try the burgers in the bar area though.
Excellent food and excellent service at this beautiful, multi-level restaurant and former courthouse.
Beautiful presentation amazing service and adventurous delicious tastes!
Food and service - superb. We felt like we were the only ones in the restaurant. Such thoughtful presentation and wine pairings. We can't wait to visit again soon!
Major service blip on Saturday night. No one came by to take our order for 45 minutes. We had to ask for bread AFTER we were done with salad course and our glasses were empty many times throughout the night. Perhaps they were down a server, but I would have expected a manager to come by or something!
I had dined here once before and had a great experience. This time was the total opposite. If you do not get a table in the main room upstairs then the ambiance is terrible. The veal was tough, sent it back and it’s replacement was only marginally better. Overall meal was terrible, especially when you consider the price.
Made a reservation for Friday night, which happened to be Valentine's Day. Was interested in trying the new incarnation of the restaurant. Was not told it was a special "Valentine's Day" prix fixe menu. When I called earlier in the day to inquire if it were possible to arrive 30 minutes earlier was told, in a highly unprofessional way, "hey we are really slammed tonight so I am going to say no." Initially was shown to a table that was essentially in the doorway. Was moved to another table where we were only provided with one menu. First option was either steak tartare or squid, neither of which I eat. Was given a rather ordinary salad in its place. Head server never came back to inquire whether I even liked the salad. Remaining dishes were fine, but by no means delectable. My husband thought the portions were quite skimpy. Dessert was OK. Would not return and could not recommend. And might add that it was certainly not cheap.
Food was tasty but way overpriced for what you get. Portions very small. While generally the physical structure of the room is decent, the overall ambiance and vibe of the room was poor. Service was only adequate but we felt like we were being rushed. The cost/value ratio here is way off for the 3 course prix fixe menu at $85 pp. On the positive side, the sommelier was very helpful and enthusiastic
Valentine Day dinner. Food and service were poor. Overall a bad experience.
Service was attentive and timely...ambience was colonial and proper...food was good but not distinguished
A truly amazing evening that lived up to every expectation. We had been to the bar and the downstairs restaurant, but never the formal dining room and we will be back! The food is spectacular, the service is amazing, and the menu is perfect in all ways.
Went for my 3rd anniversary for the 1st time to try the 5-course tasting and wine tasting in the Washington Room (put a note in the reservation but didn't receive any congratulation or acknowledgement) and the overall experience was mediocre. Here are the quick takeaways (lack of acknowledgment aside):
1. Beautiful setting and interesting interior decor
2. Delicious dessert, which at the time was a poached pear with goats or sheep milk that had the perfect balance of subtle sweetness and tartness
3. Tender and perfectly cooked bison steak with crunchy smashed potato accompaniment
1. Red snapper crudo lacked any type of bright sauce to tie together with crunchy sesame and savory nori. Fish was also a bit chewy for a crudo.
2. Seared skate wing was cooked nicely but needed some more sweetness in the sauce and something sour to make it more dynamic. It was just very flat in flavor.
3. Lacked a wow factor in the food to make you want to come back for more
Would recommend this place maybe for some casual drink and snacks (oysters!), but did not impress with the tasting menu. Review by instagram #foodbyphat
everything was great! Food / service/ atmosphere.
Y’allll killed it (had to hit the character limit)
