FOOD, WHEN IT WAS SERVED. WAS DELICIOUS AND ENJOYED BY ALL SIX IN THE PARTY. HOWEVER, THE SERVICE CONCEPT NEEDS REVISING - ALTHOUGH THE LOVELY WINE ORDER WAS SERVED PROMPTLY THE STAFF SEEMED TO FORGET THAT WE WANTED TO EAT AND HAD TO BE REMINDED TO COME AND TAKE THE ORDER. THEN ONE OF THE CHILDRENS' MEALS WAS DELIVERED LATE AND ONE OF THE ADULTS MEALS WAS FORGOTTEN. ALTHOUGH AN ALLOWANCE FOR THE TWO LATE MEALS WAS MADE TO THE BILL IT SPOILED THE OCCASION AND HENCE NO RECOMMENDATION.

Very tasty meal and beautifully presented. A fillet of salmon in a tomato based sauce and a small bowl of crushed new potatoes - £16.95. which is quite pricey for 2 main ingredients. The Walter has more of a modern twist in decor. Would be great if the fires were set up to work during the winter as it's a lovely old building that could be really cosy and authentic. Have been there in the summer and the outdoor space is great. Good for light bites and beer after work as well as for a lazy lunch relaxing in the afternoon sunshine.

We were a little disappointed by our experience at The Walter Arms. Firstly the positives; I have to commend the service which was really good and the decor and atmosphere of the dining room was also very pleasant. The food was a bit of a let down though. Fish and chips was rather greasy and bland and the mushy peas and chips had far too much salt on them. My wife had the special of swordfish steak and scallops. This was rather over-sold; the steaks were wafer thin and small and there were only two scallops. It had disappeared off the menu by the time we looked at puddings so maybe she was unlucky and got the last one? All in all probably not worth the upper end price tag.

The last few times we have been here at lunch time and found the service very slow and unprofessional- staff were very young and seemed inexperienced which I assume is through no fault of their own - young people lack confidence and require thorough training. The food however was of a high standard as always but to be frank the service put me off and I wasn't going to return as I feel the prices while not overly expensive, are certainly not cheap and I feel the price demands a full high standard dining experience. My husband convinced me to return for our anniversary and I must say we were not disappointed- the best meal we have had anywhere - ever! Glad we gave the Walters Arms another chance - bit sceptical about whether lunchtime would be of the same high friendly, attentive standard but time will tell. Hope this is not the case as I know many mums from the local school who like to lunch here regularly. Thanks again for a perfect evening x

Have been several times and the staff are helpful and knowledgeable about the food and the way its prepared - very useful when you have guests who have varied dietary requirements and are of mixed ages. Overall, great food, great atmosphere and great evening out.

Really nicely cooked meal as always. Feels like a more up market experience than many other similar places. Lovely waitress, very polite and attentive. Tables a little close together in the main building though. Recommended.

Lovely food and friendly attentive service. The annexe is not as attractive as the main rooms but we had a nice table overlooking the courtyard.
