About this restaurant

  • Good for groups
  • Great for outdoor dining
  • Innovative
Officially named The Walrus Oyster & Ale House, inspired by the Lewis Carroll poem The Walrus and The Carpenter. The restaurant offers local, moderately priced, eastern shore style seafood and a vibrant Shucking Bar. Count on The Walrus “fun” factor to complement the food with an over-sized, industrial strength bar featuring cocktails designed by Kris Carr, 14 tap beers, tap wines and colorful, massive frozen drinks for those warm, sunny days. The restaurant boasts a 90-seat patio with beautiful water views of the Potomac and nearby Old Town Alexandria. Open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. Brunch served Sunday from 10am - 3pm. Happy Hour offered Monday through Friday from 3:00pm - 6:00pm. The Walrus is also available for private and semi private events.

Our server was friendly and very attentive. The drinks were great. For appetizers we ordered oysters rockefeller and fried calamari. The oysters rockefeller was greasy and the calamari was fried too hard. I then ordered the oyster basket as my entree. The Oysters were gritty and unseasoned. This is not the best oyster house...Sorry...At least I was at the Harbor and it was beautiful day with friends. Nikki J. 09/3/16

We were quite disappointed with the amount that we paid. We expected very clean and good service. The food was okay but it would be best for the management to look into our ratings considering that the restaurant has one of the best locations in National Harbour.

Our server Chante was great! Service was prompt, she knew the menu and gave great suggestions. We started with the Old Bay shrimp and for the main course, had the scallops and fresh catch of the day. Both were excellent.

If you find yourself in National Harbor, The Walrus delivers a real Maryland / Eastern Shore kind of casual seafood experience. Service was fantastic. Thanks, Chante.

The food was great, came out fast. The waitress was very nice. I was disappointed for the fact that I reserved for 2, for a birthday occasion, with a window/water view and none of that was met. We walked in and stated reservation, and gave them my name. She asked if my entire party was here, which was surprising since I made reservations and they should of looked me up and noticed it was for 2. They sat us in the corner, against the wall. It was obvious they did not look at my reservations.

We had a great group dinner last night - our service was great (thanks Miguel!) and the food was fantastic. The patio was really nice, we all enjoyed our evening and would definitely recommend it to others.

We really enjoyed the food here. I loved the Waterman Rockefeller. The only thing I would say is be prepared for the price. It was an Sunday afternoon get together and we weren't expecting to spend a lot of money. Worth it, but wouldn't go here every weekend.

I went here with my cousin and two kids, ages 3 and 5. We all got the breakfast buffet, which is small but perfect. They have a yummy sort of donuts and muffins along with the basics of omelets, home fries and waffles. Plus a few other items. Everything was fresh and very good. The atmosphere is fun and nice to be near the water. The staff was friendly and accommodating.
