The Volunteer Tavern independent bar and kitchen is a friendly traditional style pub in Central Bristol. Tucked away by Cabot Circus the cosy one room pub boasts a large garden enclosed by grade II listed walls and dappled shade from overhanging London Plane trees. For the rare occasion when it rains here in Bristol there are two covered sections with tables and sofas. Children are welcome in the day and for meals.

Someone stole my purse at this bar. The staff told me that it would take about 4 hours to have the CCTV's video and that they would call me back the next day. The next day, no call. When I came in person, they told me to wait until 4pm for the manager to check the CCTV and they were supposed (once again) to call me back. 6PM no call from the staff. When I called, they told me that the CCTV had an issue and that they were unable to have the video. How convenient, since when someone stole my purse, there were only friends of the staff inside the bar...! I don't recommend it, unless you have nothing to lose!

i had the roast belly of pork and the wife had the roast beef and a glass of white wine,and as i do not drink i had a pint glass of orange squash.all of it was excellent.

Lovely rare roast beef and homemade Yorkshire pudding. Gravy seemed more like vegetable water, not what I am used to. There was a slight problem with my sister's food however this was sorted. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Nice atmosphere

This place should not be on OpenTable. It is not a restaurant but a loud pub. There were no specials and no gluten free options as thy claimed. We had to wait in line at the bar to order food and then again when the disgusting food came - they would not come to the table even as the food was getting cold. The chips were cold and greasy and inedible. The worst meal I have had in 3 weeks in Dublin London and Bristol.

Great Sunday Roast and well worth a visit. Tried the Trinity (Pork Belly, Beef and Chicken) all of which were great. Slight confusion with the booking but a table was found for us in the outside "tented" area. Not quite so lively in the tent in comparison to the pub itself, and slightly cold despite there being heaters, but we still enjoyed our visit. We would definitely recommend this pub for Sunday Lunch and Real Ale; we will be back.

Food arrived fast from ordering. Looked delicious and was but one complaint it wasn't very hot, we were so hungry so ate it. We new we were last for food order so didn't want to make a fuss or upset the chef. Service was excellent. Very friendly staff.
