The Vintage Press
Our turkey dinner on Thanksgiving night looked like someone quickly threw some food on both of our plates and hurriedly sent it out there. It really had a sloppy presents. The stuffing was over salted on both plates. My wife and I both had the same meal. The bread was cold. The only thing that was delicious was the creme brûlée. We expected more from your restaurant. We don’t mind paying good money for a meal that’s delicious and attentively put together. Needless to say we both looked at each other in disbelief when we saw our plates. 2 turkey dinners for $130 (No drinks) and the meat had several cartilage pieces in it. I don’t think so!!! I usually don’t write any of these critiques but this was a dinner that neither one of us will forget. The owner was walking around and how I wished he would come to our table. Never happened. I hope he sees my letter because this is a factual criticism. I am sorry that my wife had to go through this experience. Bummed!!!!
What a beautiful Thanksgiving dinner location.
The food was fantastic!
We dined here last year and enjoyed it immensely. Food, setting and service were impeccable.
We made our reservation through Open Table and arrived at 5:45. We expected to be seated in the dining room but were instead directed to the bar area. When we asked about the dining room, we were told it was fully reserved. So we were directed to a alcove table by the rear entrance where we’d catch a blast of cold air every time the door opened. When we tried to move to an adjacent table we were told it was reserved as well. A third alcove was missing a light and we watched the hostess attempt to seat someone there with no light.
During our dinner, we kept checking the dining room and during the entire meal, the room never had more than two or three tables. We felt that our reservation was ignored and we were lied to about being able to sit where we desired. Our waitress seemed to have an attitude initially towards us, we had to chase down menus and we sat unattended for at least 10 minutes. It was not busy in the bar area so we felt ignored.
Our server recovered nicely and food quality was very good. But it’s never appropriate to lie to clients with reservations. Our meal last year was a solid 10; this year’s was closer to a five.
Overall very disappointed this year. Our expectations were underwhelmed.
Great meal. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and found the experience to be top notch.
Great drinks at the bar, amazing wine selection, great service and food perfectly cooked! Our only negative experience was the entrees were so salty!
Unfortunately the blackened prime rib was not flavorful and more brunt than blackened. The mashed potatoes were too salty so much that the flavor of potato was lost. The salads were very good. The wine and drinks were good. As unbelievable as this sounds the chocolate chip cookies were terrible!! Hard as a rock and blah....store bought would have been so much better with the delicious Rosa milk. The service was excellent. Just so disappointing to spend over $300 for what we got as our meal. We have gone to the Vintage Press for many years and this was such a sad experience. We have been so accustomed to your high standards we were so surprised. We will return and hope for a better meal.
Had a good time with good food
Please extend pumpkin season. They are too good for 3 months!
The food left a lot to be desired for a restaurant of that supposed caliber although it had been awhile. Not what I remember from previous visits to the restaurant. It was a Monday so maybe they skimped due to not expecting a large crowd that evening. I would be hard pressed to eat there again--especially with so many better restaurants in town representing that price range.
Overall was a good experience, only issue s were the vodka and cranberry I sent back and had them make it with Graygoose and the appetizer mushroom puff pastry we had a tuff time cutting through it it was over cooked. But it was a nice place and we would visit again.
Excellent food. Too many children. I will be back. Service was very good
The Vintage Press was a disappointment, very sorry to say. At the level I expect this restaurant to perform, it fell short. Food was very good but a little too pricey. 47 bucks for a fish dish and 48 for three scallops. Really? But I get that, I could of asked more questions about the food. At the time of reservations I was asked if I was celebrating anything. YES my anniversary! Why did they ask? There was completely no acknowledgement of it at anytime. It was a Wednesday, I observed what I believed a shortage of help, or maybe the A team had the night off. I came to the VP to have a change of pace from my normal routine "special occasion at Fleming's" but in the end I would of had more of a celebration at Flemings: as they always seem to a appreciate our visit. Too bad, I wanted to get excited by the Vintage Press.
Simply put, this is the best place in the San Joaquin Valley. Authentic French Cuisine. Fresh food. Fabulous French atmosphere.
I live the Vintage Press for its food, atmosphere, and friendly staff. It is my favorite dining location in Tulare county. The person who waited on us yesterday is such a lovely person. Jade took excellent care of us without hovering. I love the VP!
Brought 2 guests from LA for a nice brunch. Ambiance always nice and food always very good. Was disappointed Baby Pumpkin was only offered as an appetizer. Asked for a pear salad to accompany baby pumpkin — waitress asked kitchen and they were unable to do. Suggestion: Please move baby pumpkin to entree and add pear salad on all menus (brunch, lunch, dinner). Our other entrees were all excellent, and we enjoyed the breakfast breads and fruit platter. Service is usually excellent, but Sunday brunch service was very very slow. Took a long time to receive our drinks and had to ask for coffee refills. Also, a side order of toast came out after everyone was done with their entrees — would’ve been a nice gesture if they had comped the late toast. Overall, a bit disappointed with our Vintage Press experience on Sunday compared to our prior visits over the years.
I have not had a brunch better than the Vintage Press and more value for your money, even though the Vintage Press is a well known, high class restaurant. Every brunch item comes with a side. First you are served a plate of pastries for the table to share. Cinnamon buns, small scones, almond bread, and other small pastries are included with preserves and a special flavored butter. If you want another one of your favorites pastries, if you ask, they will bring it to you. Next a plate full of fresh, sweet, locally grown fruit is arrived. The fruits vary, depending on the season. We had slices of pineapple, plum, kiwi, green melon, and banana, along with purple and green grapes. By now you are full! I ordered Eggs Benedict, which is what I usually order. My husband ordered steak and fries. My Eggs Benedict came with Potatoes Rosti (selling ?) which are basically hashbrowns formed in. A shaped of a cake and o fried. They were yummy! I love having an ice tea at the Vintage Press, because I love their Simple Syrup, which is made in house. My husband loves their Bloody Mary’s. (I do too) They make them in bAtches on Sundays and they you can see the chopped jalapeños and the different colors of pepper. It’s not too spicy. It’s delicious! Most brunch meals are under 25 dollars!!! And you can sit in the bar with has a relaxing and friendly vibe and come in your jeans, even though it’s a first class restaurant. The owners are almost always there! You will rarely have a meal at the VP without one of the two brothers being there. Enjoy!!!
Terrible, food was below standard. Portions were meager. Not worth it.
We had a few of our staff meet at Vintage Press for lunch yesterday and we were all very pleased with the experience. The atmosphere is gorgeous, the staff was delightful, and the food was very delicious! We would definitely recommend others to try it and will be returning customers as well. The owner even came out to our table to wish our honored guest a happy birthday!
Great place, excellent food. waitress was just OK. Will definitely return
Absolutely fabulous place. We go there for every special occasion.
Our wedge salads were delicious. Entree of salmon with pistachio topping was good but a little salty for my taste. The chicken dish my husband got, however, was delicious. Our dessert which we shared was superb. It was a chocolate tart with espresso ice cream.
The dining room and bar areas are beautiful.
Special compliments to our server, Alicia. She was very pleasant and efficient.
Birthday! I love that the restaurant looks exactly the way it did when I went there as a child 30 years ago. I was even more excited to find out that the food quality is just as good and the service is still superb! The restaurant is a quite noisy and I did miss the waiter clearing the crumbs. Otherwise it was a fabulous evening!
Both food and service were outstanding. The scallops were sweet, tender and perfectly prepared. The veal was cooked just as ordered and very flavorful. Service was attentive without abeing overbearing. We definitely recommend this restaurant and would return.
We’ve been to VP a number of times. This time, we came for my wife’s birthday and sat in the mirror room. Great, as usual. Try the salmon.
Always a win at VP. A beautiful facility, tasteful service, excellent menu choices, delicious food. In Visalia, don’t go anywhere else.
A very special day with my little sister---one of my BFFs
On a road trip and found the Vintage Press in Visalia. From the moment we entered we were impressed. Both the bar and dining room are house in an beautiful historic building. To choose a livelier venue you can dine in the bar area - still beautifully appointed. Our food was delicious, the service was exceptional and the setting perfect. Can’t recommend it enough!
This restaurant was a bit of a disappointment. On the positive side, it is beautiful inside and very comfortable. Unfortunately, the food didn’t measure up. We ordered the medium shellfish platter (6 clams, 6 oysters, 6 shrimp, 6 mussels). They must’ve run out of clams and didn’t tell us but they did increase the number of other items on the platter. Unfortunately, I was really looking forward to the clams! Plus a few shrimp were not cleaned well. Next the main course. I ordered the chicken, my husband ordered the pork tenderloin. Both were cooked well but the sides and garnishes with each were so salty, it tainted the entire dish. We ended up not eating them but took just the proteins home. Hopefully we can salvage something.
Love this place so much! The food and service is excellent! It's our favorite place for dates!
Incredible food very kind staff beautiful decor. Will be back and highly recommend
We looked for a decent dinner on our way to Three Rivers and found Vintage Press in TripAdvisor. The interior is beautiful, food was ok. We liked the pastry with mushrooms. Salad with shrimps and pasta were good but nothing special. Service was pleasant though a bit slow.
The service was very slow. The server didn't offer any specials. The server was unaware many items were sold out until long after orders were taken. Three of us ordered items and then our server came back and told us they were out of what we ordered.
The quality of the food was very good, the quantity small for the price. Based on my past experience at The Vintage Press, I was disappointed.
We had a delicious lunch with excellent service from Kaycee. She always brings us coffee refills! Thank you so much.
Our dinner was fabulous as usual! It was nice, quiet and romantic! We love sitting in the bar by the windows! We will be returning more often ❤️
I love the VP. The atmosphere is alway amazing. The food exceptional and our server was so friendly.
We were looking forward to a nice meal but were a little disappointed. While the starters were amazing, the entrees were mediocre and the French onion soup wasn’t my favorite. The service was incredibly slow, we were there for 2.5 hrs even while skipping dessert. The server was friendly but seemed very overwhelmed and he almost served us the wrong bottle of wine. Other tables that were seated after us were gone long before us. We were underwhelmed when we left.
The peppercorn New York Steak was fabulous. Wonderful flavor, tender and quite large. The escargot was so flavorful and prepared perfectly as well as the wedge salad; so fresh.....
I definitely wanted a fish dish and was surprised that there were many choices in their specials for the day. The halibut sounded great but I didn’t want potatoes or rice, just vegetables. The chef placed the perfectly cooked and seasoned halibut on a bed of cooked spinach. It was spectacular! The best halibut I’ve had in a very long time. Well done Vintage Press.
Wonderful food and ambience!
