The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was outstanding except for the New York strip which was tough but served with the best mushrooms I’ve ever had and a great aioli. The tomato salad was from homegrown and some heirloom tomatoes and the orzo Mac & cheese was exceptional. Beautiful outside dining area. The waiter apologized for the steak and offered to have it cooked more but we like it medium rare and declined.
Loved the new menu and the restaurant's renovation! We had a beautiful view of the grounds and the surrounding area while we dined outside. The restaurant was busy, and the service was good, but a bit slow. I would give them the benefit of the doubt and say they may just need to hire more staff. The food was delicious, and we loved the change to smaller, shareable plates. We had a lovely bottle of Wente's Petite Syrah to go with our meal. We had never tried this varietal at Wente, and it did not disappoint. We would definitely recommend this restaurant, and we look forward to going back!
The food was very good...Service was exceptional (kudos to Mark.) Can't beat the setting.
We were not treated very welcoming. The waitress and the helper were very rude, non engaging, and snappy
Date night for me and my husband. Wanted to try the new Wente Restaurant. The food was fantastic and I love there new ambiance. Very tasty dishes to share.
Far less desirable with the new concept.
You have to like small plates to enjoy this experience. Found the noise level to be too high. Had to yell across the table and could not hear the person next to me. The servers were a little aggressive in trying to remove my drink and food before I was finished! I have to say that the food was presented in a great way and was delicious. A little pricy for what you get. We mentioned in our reservation that we were celebrating someones 60th birthday, but there was no recognition of that. No candle in a scoop of ice cream or anything. Desserts were disappointing. Very small, not enough to share between 2!
It was nice, the musician wasn’t too tired. Our waiter wasn’t super friendly or informative. He barely checked on our table, and we were there to spend moola! I would go back, but next time I’ll definitely request to sit with a slightly more friendly server.
Great venue, updated menu is very good, and service is the best it has been for 25 years. The music on the weekends could be eliminated and the experience would be even better.
Overall excellent experience. A little louder than I would like and they are charging a premium for the wine. Food was excellent.
Great service. Should expand appetizers.
The Restaurant at Wente has always been one of my favorite fine dining restaurants in the East Bay for its beautiful dining areas, especially outdoors on the patio. The menu has changed over the years from the tradition entrees, wine paired meals, and now shared-style plating (although size is more accurate described as small plates). Each of the plates are beautiful plated and the food is delicious. Staff is always very accommodating although it appears that there is fewer staff during the weekdays. For a few dollars extra, it would be more consumer-oriented if the portions are at least 50% larger so that you really can share the plates and enjoy the food liberally. Otherwise, everyone just has a tablespoon size portion to share. Offer two sizes, small and larger, so that diners can order more without having to place two full orders. Also, provide complimentary bread with the small dishes rather than charging $6 for a small portion of bread.
The restaurant's format was recently changed from fine dining to casual snack bar. My wife and I were looking forward to a fine dining experience and were disappointed with the new dining format that can best be described as a glorified snack bar.
We will be going elsewhere for future special dinners.
We were a party of four. First time dining there since the format change. Prefer old entree format. Shared plates menu not as successful. Waiter encouraged us to order 2-3 items each. We ordered 2 each & it was too much food. Would have liked some lighter options on the menu to offset the richer share options.
great food, fabulous wine at winery cost, no mark up for Wente wines - a really nice place for a meal
95 degrees outside and we wanted to sit inside but were told we could only sit outside (we had reservations). Plenty of open tables inside.
We went to use a $100 gift card. We asked the waiter to charge the gift card and use our credit cards to pay for the difference of the bill. The waiter charged our cards and didn't use the gift card. This was an inconvenience bc we went to redeem the gift card, we do not live close by. The waiter contacted me to inform of what happened and offered to mail the gift card back to me. We will see if I receive it this week. Other than that the service was good.
Enjoyable. Love that they offer gluten-free since my husband can not have any gluten.
Service was slow an the food was over done.
This was a wonderful experience. Service was perfect and the food was excellent. We’ll definitely go again.
Great food.. Outside seating was perfect... Wish I could remember our waiters name.. He was the best. So whoever had the lunch shift on August 28th, you were the BEST!!!!!!
Overpriced. We stood at the hostess podium waiting for the staff to complete their work conversation before being acknowledged. $26 cheese tray with three small chunks of cheese. Not impressed. I miss the restaurant.
Nice ambience, great service, good food! Definitely recommend for special occasions or date nights.
I like the vibe of the newly renovated restaurante at Wente, food is tagged as family style which is misleading, i would call it tapas style, meant to share but small in size. Food taste was excellent, their wine list is huge and well done. would definitely come back, only problem is they close to early: 9 pm, which on a Friday would prevent me to go there since i would like to stay late after i am done with my food.
We had a wonderful time. We will be scheduling another visit ASAP.
My husband and I thought everything was great— service, food and wine were wonderful!! -but we do miss your delicious whole wheat rolls (that are not on the new menu). And we both thought entering the restaurant was a bit stark just looking at just a bar. Is there any possibility of a floor standing urn of dried grasses or something right next to the check in stand to make it easier for customers to locate your reception and make things less minimalist. Also little votive lights on the tables are fun and add a lot of ambience! We have come twice this month—Keep up the good work! Thanks!!

Great venue. Food and service not quite up to standards set on the previous weekend. Still, quite good.
Peppers were soggy. Large piece of gristle (1 out of 3 small pieces was just gristle). Oil on toast was oxidized. Nth degree flight was very stingy at supposedly 1.25 oz per wine - not enough to get a taste - would have rather ordered a glass for the $40.
3 course pre fix dinner - took forever for the meal to come out. Steak was over done, luke warm and of poor quality. Spent 275 on dinner and wine and this was a terrible meal and experience. Better off going to the food court there
Wonderful outside experience on a warm evening. Menu has changed to smaller plates at higher prices as expected. We shared the fish and steak plates. The fish melted in your mouth and very tasty but we wanted a bit more. The steak also tasty but had some fat. Overall a wonderful place to go for a special occasion.
The setting is lovely, the food was good and the markup on their own wine was obscene and insulting.
The waiters were very gracious and kept our glasses filled with cold water due to us sitting on the patio in all the heat. The food was colorful and tasty. We enjoyed a girls’ birthday lunch. Happy Birthday to our waiter as her day was the day after mine!
We were in the smaller back room and it was NOISY! Our food and service were excellent. The smaller plates are great as are the smaller prices. We will be back.
Lovely ambiance on the patio. At first we were seated near the building under cover of the eaves but that area ampifies the talking from nearby tables. So we asked to be moved to the outer patio and found it much more peaceful. Everything was extremely fresh, delicious and nicely prepared with fantastic flavors and beautiful presentation. However the menu is rather limited. With the small plates and sharing concept, between the appetizer, salad and main courses, it feels as if our party of four tasted the whole menu, so not much motivation to return soon to try the rest of the menu. And only three tiny desserts to share with a popsicle being one. More than one of us went home still slightly hungry. The service was okay, but more than once during the meal we felt abandoned by our server, and there were a couple of service hiccups which were overcome by comping the coffee. Overall a lovely evening, but not quite up to par.
For those of us that have dined at Wente restaurant for 25 +years, this neighborhood gem will be missed. It was always a treat to have lunch or dinner here for an elegant experience . Although the new format may work for lunch or an afternoon snack, our experience for dinner was lacking. The portions are very small and the value isn't there. The fresh tomato salad was the best item on the menu. The worse was the fried chicken breast that was flat and slightly seasoned. Something like shake & bake. I was expecting a juicy, old fashion fried chicken breast. The service was great, as always.
We are long time Wente restaurant fans. To be honest this was disappointing. The ambiance was nice as was the decor. Menu was very limiting. Service was fair but very slow. Food took forever to arrive and when it finally did it was cold. Small plates really were not “shareable”. They seemed like just small entree’s. We will not be coming back. We miss our old restaurant.
Delicious food and good service, ambience is beautiful. Our favorites were the crispy chicken and steak.
I much preferred Wente's before the makeover. Food is still good, but menu seems limited with the shared plate feature. And what's the deal with serving everything in bowls or on wooden planks? Did all the dinner plates get broken? If not for the beautiful surroundings, the experience would not be worth the drive.
The sea bass was old and stale. The only stand-out point is the fact that it was served in a small amount.
We enjoyed all the fresh produce from Diane's garden!
