3 course pre fix dinner - took forever for the meal to come out. Steak was over done, luke warm and of poor quality. Spent 275 on dinner and wine and this was a terrible meal and experience. Better off going to the food court there
Wonderful outside experience on a warm evening. Menu has changed to smaller plates at higher prices as expected. We shared the fish and steak plates. The fish melted in your mouth and very tasty but we wanted a bit more. The steak also tasty but had some fat. Overall a wonderful place to go for a special occasion.
The setting is lovely, the food was good and the markup on their own wine was obscene and insulting.
The waiters were very gracious and kept our glasses filled with cold water due to us sitting on the patio in all the heat. The food was colorful and tasty. We enjoyed a girls’ birthday lunch. Happy Birthday to our waiter as her day was the day after mine!
We were in the smaller back room and it was NOISY! Our food and service were excellent. The smaller plates are great as are the smaller prices. We will be back.
Lovely ambiance on the patio. At first we were seated near the building under cover of the eaves but that area ampifies the talking from nearby tables. So we asked to be moved to the outer patio and found it much more peaceful. Everything was extremely fresh, delicious and nicely prepared with fantastic flavors and beautiful presentation. However the menu is rather limited. With the small plates and sharing concept, between the appetizer, salad and main courses, it feels as if our party of four tasted the whole menu, so not much motivation to return soon to try the rest of the menu. And only three tiny desserts to share with a popsicle being one. More than one of us went home still slightly hungry. The service was okay, but more than once during the meal we felt abandoned by our server, and there were a couple of service hiccups which were overcome by comping the coffee. Overall a lovely evening, but not quite up to par.
For those of us that have dined at Wente restaurant for 25 +years, this neighborhood gem will be missed. It was always a treat to have lunch or dinner here for an elegant experience . Although the new format may work for lunch or an afternoon snack, our experience for dinner was lacking. The portions are very small and the value isn't there. The fresh tomato salad was the best item on the menu. The worse was the fried chicken breast that was flat and slightly seasoned. Something like shake & bake. I was expecting a juicy, old fashion fried chicken breast. The service was great, as always.
We are long time Wente restaurant fans. To be honest this was disappointing. The ambiance was nice as was the decor. Menu was very limiting. Service was fair but very slow. Food took forever to arrive and when it finally did it was cold. Small plates really were not “shareable”. They seemed like just small entree’s. We will not be coming back. We miss our old restaurant.
Delicious food and good service, ambience is beautiful. Our favorites were the crispy chicken and steak.
I much preferred Wente's before the makeover. Food is still good, but menu seems limited with the shared plate feature. And what's the deal with serving everything in bowls or on wooden planks? Did all the dinner plates get broken? If not for the beautiful surroundings, the experience would not be worth the drive.
The sea bass was old and stale. The only stand-out point is the fact that it was served in a small amount.
We enjoyed all the fresh produce from Diane's garden!
Fantastic views, beautiful food presentation, great service, local gem of history. Can't wait to come back.
I loved the restaurant prior to the current remodel. I am disappointed that there is no longer the great food choices or an upscale feel, or wine pairing menus available. Wente was always my first choice for dining. I'm afraid I will have to look for another location to fit that choice for me. I will go there for a small bite lunch or to meet a friend. Breaks my heart.
Excellent food and service. Beautiful location.
Would go back again.
My husband and I are wine club members and when we joined we were supposed to get 15% off at the restaurant and a glass of wine. Apparently, after the changes at the restaurant that is no longer true. But, more importantly, the menu selection was mediocre and very overpriced. We ordered the meat and cheese platter and found it to be just ok. For $28 we expected more than just three small pieces of cheese and a little bit of charcuterie. We will not return.
Amazing wine, great pairings, exceptional service!
Date Night with Spouse.
The new format for the restaurant is very disappointing. We used to love dining here, but the new menu is disappointing. Not likely return.
When we booked our reservation, we had no idea that the restaurant had been closed for the past 3 months for complete renovations. Everything was a pleasant surprise! My husband and I had dined here once before and remembered the experience in a positive way, which is why we decided to go back. This time was even better- their menu has changed to tapas style (small shared plates). Menu is small and we ordered many plates. Started with olives/mozzarella, continued with cauliflower and shishito peppers, then garden bowl, sea bass, and buckwheat noodles. We ordered a bottle of wine (a bottle costs the same as 2 glasses of most of their wines by the glass), dessert was the thickest, most delicious chocolate pot de creme and decaf coffee. We couldn’t eat all of that food, but brought it home and enjoyed it the next day for lunch! Fantastic “old is new again” place to take a date or to hang out with friends. Restaurant is open Wednesday through Sunday.
Fun atmosphere you can have a drink and cheese plate or a dinner to share or a multiple course dinner
Four of us enjoyed a mid-afternoon lunch last Friday after our corporate board meeting. We were happy to treat our East Coast guests to the great food and beautiful wine country scenery only a brief drive from Fremont. It was so good that I returned on Sunday with a friend from Fremont who had never visited Wente before. She was also very impressed. (Be sure to get the strawberry shortcake if its available!)
Good food, good service, wonderful wine. We sat outside and shared salad, appetizer, entrees and dessert -- a beautiful setting. Our birthday celebration dinner was unrushed. We will be back.
The name and format have changed completely. Before, it was known as Wente, a fine dining restaurant. Now it is very casual and the menu is geared to small plates and sharing of dishes at the table with others. The concept and experience for all diners has changed, drastically.
First, the menu is somewhat limited. They need to expand the menu and improve the culinary level of the dishes. We were a party of 6 and we many multiple dishes. None of it was bad but, on the other hand, there were no outstanding dishes. That means that at this early stage of their development, things are just OK with nothing that stands out enough to draw us back for another visit.
It's still a beautiful location and the service is excellent but that's not enough to entice me to return.
This is the first time I have been back to Wente since they changed the restaurant and I loved it! Great food, drinks, and service! Will definitely be back!!
Food was great, wine was great, sitting outside was very nice, and our server was fantastic!
The food was exquisite. Small portions but so good.
Our waitress was outstanding. Perfect balance of attentiveness and not feeling rushed.
It was a beautiful day at a winery, what more can be said
The food was excellent and our table out on the patio was perfect. A little expensive for the small plates. The hanger steak was delicious but the four of us felt like we each needed to order one for ourselves since the portion was so small. It was quiet for a Thursday but very, very enjoyable. We'll definitely go back!
We are long-time Wente Restaurant customers and went there for lunch to check out the changes (remodel and menu). I will miss the “fanciness” of the original decor, but am in love with the new. It makes perfect sense to modernize and create a more casual and “social” ambience. The menu, as far as I know, is the same for lunch and dinner and our choices did not disappoint! We were actually very happy to see that Wente scaled back on their wine list, featuring Wente wines. Still is one of our favorite places to dine!
We have been here before and were looking forward to an outstanding experience. They have changed the menu and layout since we were last in the dining room. From white tablecloth to plain tables. First issue was the table conducting a staff meeting in louder voices. We could have gone outside, but my husband had had an eye exam so it was too bright. The waiter was a little slow, but knowledgeable about the menu. I asked about another variety of wine by the glass since their menu only listed two whites, extremely limited list. Ten minutes later be brought a glass but did not tell me what it was. The food was excellent! Loved the portions. We stopped him and asked to see a dessert menu which he had in his hand. Took him 10 minutes to come back for order. We then waited 20 minutes for strawberry shortcake (?) and finally left table and asked manager for our bill. He was very nice and offered his name and incentives to return. The waiter finally showed up after speaking with manager with dessert in hand, asking if we’d like it boxed. We declined, paid the bill, and will not return.
Updated menu has shareable dishes. Slightly more than tapas but less than a normal entree. I brought two business partners to dinner and it was a little awkward sharing dishes with each other. Not enough meat for a single portion. The service was good and the waitress made excellent wine suggestions.
As a club member, I was showered with Duckhorn's finest specialty wines. Always worth a visit to this beautiful vineyard. Excellent attentive, courteous, and genuinely compassionate servers. 20% discount on cases plus free shipping. Need to visit more often although the regular member allocations have been consistently wonderful and I have shared my allocations with relatives on the East Coast at no additional shipping costs. See the photos of some of the wines tasted.
Dinner with good friend
Food is excellent! Service is wonderful.
Food is meant to share but tables aren’t really set up for that. Had to ask for serving spoons which helped.
Appreciate the option for flights of wine. Cocktails are creative and tasty. Something for everyone.
Will definitely return.
was really excited to try the new Wente-the setting is beautiful. The new concept isn't really new-miss the old white table cloth experience.
The day was beautiful with a nice balmy breeze. The setting on the patio was very pleasant and the service impeccable. She explained the menu of small plates to be shared and suggested an appetizer and so we shared the shrimp dish and the smoked pork tenderloin The pork was so tender and had a bourbon peach glaze which really complemented it. Oh we also we shared their French fries which we both decided were the best we had ever had. Slender and crunchy with aoli or a red sauce for dipping. My out of town guest was very impressed. We WILL go back.
Bought the most expensive wine flight and didn’t think it was very good especially for the price.
Great food, excellent interior and outdoor design, fantastic waitstaff, fabulous wines. Highly recommended. The view is nice with the California mission style buildings, golden hills, and shady foliage. A little pricey, but worth it!
Missed the special feel of the former Wente restaurant. Food was superb, but servers seemed a little lost, slow for not being crowded. Attentiveness was awkward (felt pushy asking twice if we wanted a glass when only halfway through a flight, then not checking back as we did complete the drinks.) Mixed up wines, food coming to our table that wasn’t ours. The food we did order was wonderful, fresh, tasty. Just not that different from what you can find elsewhere, and very pricy. The patio ambiance is so enjoyable, I hope they fix the menu balance (not all shared plates) and reset service expectations.
We dined on the patio - lovely! The food was wonderful, if pricey, and our server was fantastic. We will be back!
