   We went to Benguela Brasserie with a group of friends to celebrate my 40th birthday. We did wine tasting before hand which was fantastic, very interesting because Phil was so knowledgeable and charismatic. All the staff were amazing and did everything possible to make it a very enjoyable experience. The food was wonderful, the steak in particular was perfect. Because of the quality of the food we expected the bill to also be very high but it was in fact the opposite. I couldn't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Thank you to all the staff and chefs.

   This restaurant deserves to be packed but think it is still a bit unknown. Second visit - great service and good food.

   Unfortunately we were the only guests in the Benguela brasserie on Saturday lunchtime so the ambience was flat. Our waiter was very friendly and informative. However, he was lacking in his attention to detail - our glasses were not refilled, he dropped cutlery when clearing the table and did not see that a knife had soiled my guest's top. At the end of the meal, he disappeared. We had to go hunting for our coats as he had apparently moved on to his next job overseeing a wine tasting. The food was lovely. Everything was beautifully presented however, we felt that the starter portions were a little small and when we suggested that the pollock (main course) would benefit from more sauce, maybe even a little jug for each guest and our waiter agreed, we thought he might give the feedback to the chef and bring same. Sadly not - apparently the chef said it would spoil the look of the plate!

   I was very impressed at how attentive the staff were, and how adaptable the menu was for gluten and dairy intolerances. The food was fantastic, everyone really enjoyed their food and the atmosphere was also really good - we had a room just for our dinner party. I would thoroughly recommend this place for a special occasion.

   This is fine dining. The food was beautifully cooked and presented. Not the cheapest restaurant around but certainly not the most expensive either. 3 course meal for 4 with 2 bottles of wine and 4 coffees was £200. We all came away saying it was money well spent.

   This was a first visit to MHGC since it changed hands and we wanted to find out whether it is as good as locally rumoured. We were taking our son out while he was visiting from the USA. It proved to be a very pleasant experience, interesting dishes and cheerful service. We shall go again.

   Decided to return to our wedding venue to celebrate hubby's birthday and were treated like royalty! The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to bring our delicious Sunday lunch and all the trimmings al fresco for us. Food exceptional, just as our wedding day and our experience brought back some special memories. Fully recommended!

    A short notice Friday date night pick and very pleased with the result. A little quite with no real vibrance but very pleasant setting, great staff and outstanding quality food, a real surprise! Would go back again!
