Went for brunch. While not a huge brunch menu, still were good choices. Had the eggs Florentine. Very good Hollandaise and egg was poached correctly. Wife hade the waffles with fruit and they were as to be expected. Could’ve used a little more fruit. Also had the avocado toast which was good. And to top it off, the bottomless Mimosas.
NO ONE WAS THERE. ITWAS ALMOST SPOOKY. MAYBE BECAUSE THE ENTERTAINMENT WAS NOT VERY GOOD.
WE ISED TO LIKE THIS PLACE. HOPE THEY GO BACK TO BOOKING GOOD BANDS!
Pretty mediocre meal. Was surprised by the club music in a restaurant. Service was really slow but shouldn’t have been surprised since when we walked in there was a table that never got bussed and still hadn’t been bussed as we were leaving.
The food was ok. Nothing exciting. Nothing worth even commenting on.
The Village Inn has great food selections. They also have good draft beer , cocktails and a decent wine list. It's a fun place to go to hear some live music and play trivia on Tuesdays.
Tuesday night Trivia with Morgan is the best! We always order nachos, wine and salads. There are 7 to 12 of us every week and we all look forward to Trivia.
Eight of us hit the VI every Tuesday for Trivia Night. Morgan is a great trivia host. The servers are all wonderful. I wish there were less expensive red wines however; we order two or three bottles every Tuesday. The nachos are delicious; we order them every time.
Our team plays trivia every tuesday night. It's a blast! We usually order nachos, salads and an entree or two. Trivia night at the VI is better than other trivia venues. Morgan is a delight.
Our server was great! It was a bit slow, but understandable as it was a busy night. Thankful that she was able to separate our check appropriately (4 groups). Thank you!!!
Food was good. But the service was not good. Had to wait forever to get our order and waited a long time to get our check
Our server was so inattentive, forgot almost everything we asked for. Our drinks came after our food. We had to ask for extra plates 3 times and the dressing for salad we ordered it with twice. Everything was waited for much longer than should have been. Won’t be coming back anytime soon.
Searched various menus around the area and found VI to have the best prices. Went there before trivia night so the vibe was a little off, but had a good dinner and an Orange Crush (the pour seemed a little light but drink was at least refreshing and tasty)
For menu selections
Fresco Chicken Sandwich. Very tasty and fresh. Roasted jalapeño on top was a nice touch. I would definitely order that again.
Caesar Salad with Steak. Wife enjoyed it a lot. Nice portions of vegetables and meat. Tomatoes looked good and fresh and it gets 2 thumbs up
Fish and chip. Nice presentation and portion. Fish didn’t seem too heavily battered and my son ate it all. At $12 was happy with the meal.
If we get back to Balboa would definitely stop in again but would maybe go for a beer instead of the cocktail
Met some friends with the family and we all enjoyed the food and the service. Great menu location and very fast service. A good place for family and kids for lunch.
Very nice place, nice food... service a bit slow! Maybe - just maybe - the chef can reconsider a setting for the poached salmon - each ingredient separately was great, but the presentation in the soup bowl with tons of tasteless green was actually very... disappointing, but otherwise - amazing place, my fiance had a great mean, it looked and tasted great, I will be back for sure! Oh... parking is a problem, but this is Balboa Island - what do you expect!
This was a pleasant surprise. The appetizers: poke, ceviche, and bruschetta were excellent. Family all loved the entrees: scampi, french dip, short ribs, and fillet. Definitely worth a return visit.
Waitress was great.. food good, loved the band!
One of our favorites on the island!
Great restaurant. We went at 1130 and there was plenty of seating. It was busier later. The breakfast was great. Bloody Mary was excellent.
We returned to the Village Inn after an unfortunate experience in December when the restaurant had locked its doors in the middle of the day because they were under-staffed. Upon reading my very unhappy Yelp review, the manager replied by apologizing and offering to mail us a gift card and an invitation to try again. Our return visit this past weekend was on a summer evening, so we did have to deal with the challenge of finding a place to park. However, once we found our way to the restaurant, it was all good, and the food was delicious (shrimp scampi, mahi mahi, blackened salmon, and braised short ribs). The noise level is definitely energetic, so this isn't a place for subdued conversation or marriage proposals! Very glad we had a chance to return and give the restaurant a second try. Thank you, Village Inn!
This was a cute local place. I feel like Paul Revere could have eaten here. Something from Carmel or Maine. Loved the ambience.
A great place to enjoy a meal with friends and family. Excellent and friendly staff. We love to come in when Melissa is working. Always enjoy coming in on Wednesday for wine Wednesday and Fridays to complete my crazy week.
We had an amazing brunch on Mothers Day!
I would recommend it to anyone.
Great Service ,
Excellent Fare -Calamari could be cooked a tad bit longer . Other then that , excellent drinks, service , food . Unexpected surprise for Lunch -
Nice location. We had really good service and the food was decent for the money.
I am happy with my experience. Food was excellent and the live music wasn't too loud to where you have to yell to have a conversation. Not a place I would drive to, but Uber or Lyft is a great option.
We have been going to the VI for years and watched it change from a warm and friendly restaurant and pub to a loud and raucous bar that is now populated with foul mouthed drunks who absolutely ruin any chance of having a civilized dinner out. The locals continue to complain to the owners that they are ruining this Island treasure and I fear it is just a matter of time before some ugly incident forces the place to close....
A great little intimate restaurant where both locals and off-island visitors feel comfortable and welcome. The service was fabulous and the food very good.
We were visiting from out of town for the Christmas holiday and had made reservations for 1:00 lunch using Open Table months in advance, even including "visiting from out of town!" as our personal message on Open Table. After having found parking on the peninsula, taken the ferry, and walked quite a few blocks, we arrived right on time, but when we tried to enter the restaurant, the doors were locked even though there were people dining inside. I called the restaurant from the sidewalk outside and said we had 1:00 reservations and were here but couldn't figure out how to enter the restaurant. I was told that they were short staffed (there was only one cook on a holiday weekend), which is why they had locked the doors, and that there would be a 30 minute wait. Needless to say, we were stunned. Who locks customers out? If they were understaffed, the least they could do was try to notify us, or put a sign on the door, or something. But to lock the doors? This was the most bizarre restaurant experience I've ever had, and I simply cannot recommend this place. Shame on them for ruining a holiday family gathering that we had been planning on for months.
This is really a typical bar food restaurant. Service and food is what you expect for that type of environment. Noise level high. Not a date note place. Okay for a needed meal . Not anything special.
Staff was friendly, efficient and attentive. The food was excellent, the Bloody Mary was tasty, and my companions thoroughly enjoyed the bottomless mimosas.
Was a nice evening to relax, have a drink and listen to the band
Felt the place was not particularly welcoming, somewhat cold and stark - ambience was lacking. While the waitress was fine, even though she was told that it was my birthday, thus was not recognized in any way. Condidering this place looks so inviting from outside, and has a prime position, the interior is disappointing. It could do with an overhaul, bringing in more of the village feel, possibly ....
The noise level was ridiculously loud. The food was not good. Most of us didn't finish our meals Service was just OK.
If you want to go party, it might be ok but not to eat. I'm sure they won't miss me (and my six other friends) in the future.
Awesome service, one of my favorite places in Orane County. The breakfast menu was delicious, easily the best Bloody Marys in town. Highly recommended!
It's a bar primarily. Loud, somewhat gritty, not at all as promised. Food wasn't bad, sort of mediocre.
The place was empty for lunch midweek in June so very quiet and lots of attention. the food was good and it brought back memories for all of us.
Great food, service and band!
way too noisy. couldn't even hear the person next to me
Expected entertainment to be in the vein of a combo or band. It was nice guy on acoustic guitar, which ws fine, just not what would keep us there for the evening.
Stopped by Village in for a quick bite and we had an outstanding dining experience. Large salads, tender shortribs, and fresh halibut sandwich really made our evening. Can't wait to go back.
