It was shut - why could we book a table of the return to has closed down - very disappointing

I booked this meal with you and received confirmation on my phone and then a reminder that 'could I still attend.' which I replied 'yes' too. Copies on my phone. I arrived, only to see a sign on the door saying they wer closed due to a wedding function taking place. I phoned them to be told they were indeed closed for this reason and apologised about the booking mistake. I was very fortunate to be able to get a table at a nearby restaurant at such short notice on a Saturday. I later phoned the manager to complain but she said it was 'Open Tables' fault which was a pathetic excuse because of the confirmation I had received. The manager did not seem particularly bothered, I feel I should be recompensed in some way for the massive error on their part. My son, (who I hadn't seen in seven weeks) and his girlfriend had come to visit me from Portsmouth and this was meant to be a special occasion. I'm very disappointed to say the least.

Unfortunately the place was virtually empty which probably contributed towards the lack of atmosphere. Service in the restaurant was awful, however there was only 1 young lad taking food and drink orders and then bringing it all to the table. We had a long wait!. However there were many bar staff - I don't think they got the balance right. Food was OK, not amazing. Starter was a little odd - I giant jar of chicken liver pate with a tiny single slice of bread?!?! I'd heard good things about the place, yet found the whole experience drab and disappointing. Wouldn't go back or recommend for food. Maybe just drinks if with a crowd.

Booked a table on line for 1945 arrived to be told there would be an hour wait ! Left went next door to Artys great food and arrive in there

Food was very good but restaurant wasn’t very busy...but waitress gave us a list first that they had not got left on the menu which was quite a lot to say it was Saturday night and hardly anyone in. So choices were very limited but I must say the food we chose was very good....but I would visit again the staff were very pleasant

Very disappointing. The historical interesting venue is let down by appallingly bad service and lacklustre food. The young waiter had clearly had very little training and was struggling with even basic knowledge of his role. The table was sticky and dirty and the wet wipes I used to clean it were black with dirt. Menus were dog eared and soiled. My risotto was like a bowl of gruel and my friend ‘s fish and chips overly greasy. Never again.

Atmosphere was not great as restaurant was empty, only 2 tables full. Food was not great, chips looked and tasted like they had been waved over the fryer. Steaks were not cooked right. We order 3 medium and 1 medium rare, they came out 3 medium rare and 1 medium, we were so hungry we just ate it and left!

Booked via the victuler website through open table. Turn up on the day of my booking to find the restaurant closed and does not open on mondays. Even had a reminder to attend!

Poor level of quality service think due to it being understaffed. However the food was good and reasonably priced. Did notice that the menu online was different to what we were given in the restaurant. Have had bar menu before which was as lovely. Will think again before booking the restaurant.
