The Vestry in the Mission is a good spot to start your weekend right with bottomless brunch and made to order donuts.
Liked the convenience to get to the venue at the Chapel. My daughters and I had a lot of fun.
Excellent cocktails, meh food.
The food lacked flavor, thought and execution.
Tables were placed out on Valencia Street that never got serviced. Showed up on time for the reservation. Waited for almost 20 minutes just to have a server come. Checked at Tacolicious for a wait, none, and left the menus at the front (with 8 people waiting and no host). I'm always a huge fan of this place but nah for a while.
The food was very good!
Bottomless Mimosas were awesome!
The Vestry was perfect for an evening celebration! Outdoor and indoor seating is beautiful. Our waitress, Jennifer, was super warm and accommodating. The hostess, Amy, was also wonderful! The ambiance is warm, inviting, and kind of sultry/cool. Great food, drinks, and dessert!
Delicious. Fried chicken and waffles was to die for. So crunchy, so yum.
pool smell is quite pungent throughout the restaurant
Really great service, cool atmosphere, nice food and strong drinks!
Food was good, service was alright but the music was WAY too loud for brunch/early afternoon. It felt like we were at a club and had to keep screaming to have a conversation. Otherwise it was fine. Wouldn't recommend this place for a relaxing brunch to catch up with friends though, too loud.
Took my girl for a brunch date. Food was great and let me tell you all, get the bottomless mimosas! Great vibe and amazing staff. I felt very welcomed once I entered the door. I would definitely return even if I live in NYC.
I had a wonderful experience at the Vestry. The food was excellent. Even my vegetarian friends left happy! We will be back again.
Vestry is TASTY. Huge space, bar is dark and can get noisy when the place fills up BUT they have many spaces for dining so you can choose what scene you prefer. We always go with the covered outdoor space - super warm w heat lamps and a quieter option. Food is great, lots of beers and wine to choose from. Looking forward to trying out their brunch soon.
Service is too slow.. It shouldn't take 20 minutes to make a Martini. Bus boy was more engaged then the server..
10% tip and no more...
Great food, ambiance and service. Our waitress was conscientious of our time constraints to make the theatre. Pizza and sliders were excellent.
Great place and they always treat us like VIP's. They hold stools so we have a place to sit at the shows and put on some of the best live shows in the Bay Area. Good food, drinks and venue. Sound system, staging, lighting and HD Video are top notch. Always a good time there.
The food was excellent and service great. I took 3 friends who have never been here before and everyone was happy with their food. Plus delicious margarita pie.
Great brunch food. Hidden gem in Mission for sure.
Since you asked....We did not stay. We were seated directly under a speaker that was blaring music so loud that we could not have a conversation. There was no option to be seated elsewhere because there was no place in the entire establishment to get away from it. This was supposed to be a noon brunch date. Perhaps under different circumstances this would have been fun. But I had made the reservation under the online recommendation that this was a place "great for brunch". Never mind.
Food is very good and a very good value; only challenge is that the lighting is "dim" so it's hard to read the menu...
Haven't eaten here for some time, but love the food, and the fried chicken was amazing! Great plates to share and the service was really good!
We had a date to see Luna perform Penthouse and the whole night was just perfect. Our server was adorable, funny, efficient and smart. This was the best venue for a dinner beforehand, then the show. They even have a coat check, which was a nice touch. Everyone who worked there was polite, and knew their craft. As previous restaurant owners, we appreciated the ethic and class of this place. Will be back!
Excellent food, attentive (but not overbearing) service, friendly atmosphere, top-rate, creative cocktail menu
Looks like we have found a new brunch spot! Part of the old New College Campus, The Vestry and the adjacent The Chapel are in spaces steeped in history behind the long standing facades on Valencia St. The restaurant was freezing when we entered because the double doors at the entry were left wide open. The hostess was completely incompetent, but luckily we had a reservation via opentable. We were seated and the server showed up quickly. He was fantastic and so was our brunch. This place is about 10 to 15 percent more expensive than some surrounding places but it is well worth it. I had the best eggs benedict I have ever had. We paid via the opentable app as the restaurant filled up with beardos, manbuns and hipsters and our server started to get into the weeds. He was grateful and we walked out very happy people.
Everything about the Vestry is terrific. We chose this spot for dinner before a show at the adjoining Chapel. The staff was very friendly, the food was very tasty and fresh and satisfying. The drinks were just right. I couldn't ask for a better spot to grab a bite before a great night of live music.
Hostess was surly and rude. The music was blaring so loudly that my dining companion and I had to shout across the table to hear each other. It took over ten minutes for the server to actually acknowledge our existence even though they were not busy.
The avocado toast was excellent, but tiny--absolutely not worth $14! The sausage gravy on the cowboy breakfast was overpowering and disgusting. It tasted and looked like the entire dish had been drenched in spicy, emulsified hotdog. The poached eggs were hard inside.
Final bill with tip for two was a shocking $72 even though we did not order any alcohol. When we walked out, the hostess did not even bother to look up from her phone as she tersely muttered, "Bye." She might as well have screamed an obscenity at us it was so rude.
very often, i look at a menu on opentable before booking. did just that with the vestry only to find that they had spontaneously cut several items (mainly large plates) from their menu. that was a bit disappointing. is it difficult to update your menu on opentable?
We had a great time on NYE eating in the covered portion of the restaurant with heat lamps. Our server was amazing and everyone was so accommodating. Great NYE with a nice crowd and awesome food, drinks and service!
Sunday brunch at a restaurant close to holiday shopping sounded perfect as it has an ideal location. I ordered all sides as I wanted the 'cornmeal' waffle served with maple syrup. Also I chose fruit & bacon which were portions that seemed intended to be shared by two or more. They have a heated patio but I chose indoors due to the very cold weather. The quality of the food was average, the service pleasant but slow and certainly no one rushed me to hurry up and leave.
loved brunch! food was delicious, our waiter was amazing, and loved the bottomless mimosas!
Waitress could not read or explain any of the menu items I asked her about. The ambiance was nice with candle light a little too dark for me I had to use my phone to read the menu. Waitress was dressed like a day at the park and dropped forks whenever picked up our plates. Brought our drinks and spilled a couple of times on my boyfriend. Food was good but everything else was disappointing...
I had a pair of small plates: the chicken empanadas and the pear/gorgonzola ravioli. Both were excellent, well-prepared. The empanada shells, especially, were just right. My companion and I split the IT IS IT dessert, which was decadent and delightful. The restaurant is attached to The Chapel music venue next door which makes it ideal for a pre-show dinner.
We went to Vestry to have an early dinner with another couple. Everyone seemed happy with their meal. I thought the decor looked a bit dingy and tired although my biggest complaint was with the noise coming from the adjoining bar... I prefer quieter settings.
The waiter was friendly and very attentive. My wife thought the fried chicken was great. My duck was good but I have had better.
The vestry has 5 main dishes and when we arrived there were only two available. Everything we had originally ordered was not available. Service was a bit off as well....our waitress seemed very confused....maybe she was just new?
Other than that the food was great and the outdoor patio was nice.
Food was pretty good, but the service was incredibly slow. Did not see the waitress for 15 minutes after sitting down, and had to continually flag her down to add drink orders. Also they messed up the check.
Visited before Marc Broussard concert. Food was great ..and service was spot on.. and friendly. Would recommend to anyone. Just a really nice casual easy place. Love that it wasn't pretentious in slightest..which is what we fear sometimes in the Mission. We will definitely be back.
The wait staff were very competent and warm. The hosts were also good - no drama at the door.
We honestly had an awful experience at the vestry. I regret paying the $28 that I did. The service was AWFUL. We waited about 15 mins to be greeted and the server was absolutely awful at her job. Never apologized for how long we had waited. Mind you the restaurant was not busy at all. We got our drinks quickly but from another server who was alot nicer. Our food came but my friends came 5 mins after everyone elses so our food got cold while we waited. Hers was probably the easiest to prepare also so it makes no sense. We had planned to do the bottomless mimosas but by the time we got any type of service we were annoyed and there was no point. We almost got another drink because we were enjoying being in the sun so we asked the server for the menus and again took forever. After finally dropping them at our table she dissapeared and never came back to take our orders so after about 15 mins of waiting again we just gave up got up and had to ask her for our bill. She tokd us she would take it to the table and we told her no, since eveythkng had taken so long we were ready to pay there and then. She gave us the bill super rudely, as if we had done something wrong. When she gave back our cards she didnt give one of them back and then came to try to take all of the checks again cause she thought she had messed something up. Thankfully she didnt so we were able to leave. Her name was Samantha, brunette.
Loved our waitress Marin!
Loved the Mission District as there was lots to see and do before and after meal. Vestry food was good but the place was very, very noisy.
