our waiter, a young fellow was very courteous, and helped to make our evening special
Good food, good views, good old school Peninsula spot.
I was very pleased with the Ambiance and the service. The food was great.
Very crowded and noisy! Small table against the wall with no room for anything. Food was good, service was ok. Just didn’t feel special, too many people in a small area.
Service was a little slow this evening, but still a great experience nonetheless.
Had a wonderful dinner. Meal was delicious, service was friendly and efficient, and view beautiful. One incident that flawed our evening is that there were a group of people in the next booth; they were loud and overly boisterous making it extremely difficult to converse. Management did not address the problem.
The food was good, but the overall value is just OK. The service did make it special because the attention was great.
The view is very nice for the peninsula dining. Very noisy restaurant, but food is good, Old place , very nice.
We had another wonderful dinner experience. Started off with Manhattans and proceeded to lobster. Food and service were excellent! Thank you for the enjoyable evening!
Great comfort food!
We had been once and chose to return to celebrate our sons first anniversary with he and his wife. Service was outstanding and food was delicious. We are happy to contemplate a drive across the Bay from Fremont to dine here more often!
Food was delicious, but a little pricy. Two people and a toddler--$92 not including tip
We enjoyed fish and chips and the absolutely delicious scallops.
Lovely lunch experience enjoyed with a friend. The food was good and the service was excellent. We will return again and again.
great views, which is why you go. Food was very good, but expensive. Large portions. Slow service.... we were there for several hours. dining area is cramped, therefore noisy. All in all we have a good evening, albeit costly and long. I would recommend for special occasions only.
Fabulous evening! All we ordered was excellent: shishito peppers and mushroom appetizers to share, beef medallion, pork and veal chops were awesome. Our waiter Charlie was attentive, fun and at hand when we needed him for more wine etc.
Great place also for views over the peninsula and Bay, ask for a window table....
Everything was good!!
We've been dining at the Vans for over thirteen years and will keep on going. It is our favorite spot for oysters Rockerfeller and coctails. Gene Rice and Alice Bollard
Friendly hostess, the oyster Rockefeller and the sand dabs are to die for . The New York steak was cooked to perfection and the service was excellent. Great views of the City and the bay.
Service and hostess were not very friendly but food was really good
Always a good meal at The Vans. The staff was attentive. They made sure we were enjoying our meal. They didn't disappear like they do in some restaurants. Great time.
Excellent variety on the menu and tasted great! I’ve been there several times and recommend it.
Our reservations were for 7:30pm, but did not get seated until almost 8pm.
The noise level was high and everyone was shouting. The service was good.
We celebrated a birthday at Van's On The Hill, and this was our first dining experience at this establishment. They did not disappoint! The food, service and view were amazing. We will definitely be returning to Van's in the near-future. This is a great local find, hidden up on a hill that I wish we had not waited so long to try.
I am a previous customer but it was the first time for my family. Everything was excellent as always. We especially loved the stuffed pork chop. Service was great and the view was to die for. Affordable wine list and desserts.
We always enjoy dining at The Van's and have for many years. Consistently great steaks, friendly service and great views. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.
I have been here multiple times and always had a good experience. This time however, we got seated, close to 25 minutes later, only when I flagged a server down we were able to place a drink order. The extremely poor service continued throughout the entire meal, the server didn't return to take food order for at least another 20 minutes, one person in the party was given an incorrect meal and what came back was the same food re-plated but this time cold.
Even though the manager was visible on the floor, not one apology for the mistakes, the tardy service or the overall experience was uttered from manager or server. It was extremely disappointing to say the least and as much as I enjoy this restaurant I will think twice before returning.
I work in the business, I get it, if folks call sick you are short staffed, it is hard to keep the service at the top level you normally have it. But if it is that bad, close a section, turn folks away, do anything except what you did which was seat people that you were not prepared to be serve and then not even acknowledge the disaster that unfolds.
We always enjoy The Vans. Good cocktails at the bar and very good dinner salads. The fried prawn entree was excellent but, the sand dabs were sparse for the higher price they now charge for dinner.
First time having the scallop patties. Oh my. So delicate and tasty. Great tasting tartar sauce too.
We went there for Valentine's and the food was wonderful. I would go there again.
The Van's Restaurant is one of the best restaurant in the Silicon Valley. Best service, delicious food, nice view of the bay. I definitely come here again
Very attractive & cheerful. Very nice festive direct/indirect lighting. Good parking. Excellent bar.
Excellent food. Good service. Not over-priced.
Will be back.
Get the F Mignon & lobster ~ Wow!
We had a lovely evening after having been frazzled at work all day. We both had a fabulous Manhattan and the fabulous prime rib dinner. The setting is peaceful and didn’t feel rushed.
Love going to The Van’s. Nice atmosphere and the staff is friendly. I would like to see different vegetables, maybe some broccoli instead of green beans.
After decades, we finally made it to The Van's. The food is standard fare, nothing memorable. In fact much of it is bland tasting. Decor is sterile, white table cloths and old school. This isn't bad or good it's just plain. Our server was friendly and attentive. The food was good, but didn't stand out. The restaurant prides itself on its view. It's not spectacular, but decent given the restaurants location on a hill. You do pay a premium for this. There is no ambiance to speak of, and the food does not leave you longing to return. I was hoping for more and left a little underwhelmed.
We love the Vans! The food is always terrific, and the service is beyond compare. Everyone who works there goes overboard to cater to your every whim, and are just so friendly! Oh, and the view is fantastic!
Great views, good food, nice service. It is a great place to stop in on a Friday night for the happy hour.
Very disappointing. Service was slow and 2 of us actually got sick from the food. Probably won't return.
Great food, ambiance and service! A complete neighborhood gem! Gorgeous views as well! A must go to!
Been here more than 3 times. Food has been good which is a plus since my 14 year old daughter is a picky eater. We weren’t as dressed up as other patrons (mostly Caucasian) so it may affected how our waiter treated us. He took our drink orders and when they arrive we attempted to get our appetizer order but told to wait. He told us to order desserts stating they were closing which was around 10pm- there were 3 other tables occupied. When the check came, he gave us the wrong one and stated that check costs more.
Funny that my husband had the same feeling as I did -perception that we were second class and David (Latin guy) was irritated by us (we’re Asian).
Don’t know if we will return. If we do, hopefully, David isn’t working that night.
