With respect to simplicity and execution, we try to highlight the awesome product from our local purveyors with minimal "fuss"
Pleasant atmosphere but feels like a work in process.
Suggestion for the swordfish prep: Top moi gets could be Siracusa or an Asian bbq for a tastier version. Also a better balance of grains and greens.
Plan to try again.
I have written several other reviews so I will keep this short. GET THE ARRANCINI!!!!!!!!! The Risotto used in it is finished with bone marrow giving it an amazing flavor and texture.
I have written several reviews of the Vandal, so I will keep it brief. It was EXCELLENT in every regard. Pork chop wass cooked perfectly, which is unusual in a restaurant. . The new half chicken dish was outstanding! The staff works together seamlessly.
I eat here too often? Love the staff & food.
Celebrated our anniversary here and everything was fantastic! Always reccomend the Vandal
We shared small plates and the red snapper. Everything was beautifully done, fresh, inventive. Great cocktails!
It was quite delicious and the service was excellent
The seating outside was less than ideal but we made it work.
Excellent service and food!
Restaurant week menu. My wife and I had one of each with the wine flight. Everything was delicious and unique. Kudos to the kitchen.
Always have something new and wonderful to try at every regular visit. <3
The restaurant week menu was phenomenal. The chitara pasta was probably the best pasta dish I’ve ever had.
We visited The Vandal during Restaurant Week, so we got a great deal on a three course meal. I loved the decor of the restaurant. The staff was very nice and personable. The food was DELICIOUS. The waitress even gave us each a complimentary glass of champagne because we were celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday that evening. I will definitely recommend The Vandal to my friends and family for a unique dining experience!
Delicious farm to table food, presentation amazing, small venue, 8 tables, byob or small wine/beer/cocktail menu. Will definitely be back!
I won't go on and on since I've written two fairly long reviews in the last two months. The Vandal was outstanding again with some new menu additions. I had the Tomato leaf chittara pasta with basil, burrata, blistered tomatoes and balsamico which was new to the menu and I am very glad I did. My wife and I shared the Chanterelle mushroom appetizer, possibly the best mushrooms I have ever eaten. One thing I've never mentioned is the tasty and plentiful (complimentary) bread service at the Vandal which is a course for which m many of their competitors charge There was a party of nine to ten people at one table and as we ate most of the tables filled up. The hostess/server/bar tender did an amazing job of fulfilling everybody's needs calmly and quickly. We try to go to the Vandal for dinner every two weeks and we always walk out very impressed.
We had friends in town visiting from California (where we have also lived) and took them to the Vandal on a Saturday night. We were all very impressed by the food and service. The dishes were complex and the pasta was delicious. The san fraciscans raved about it--we will be back!
We all LOVE this place. One of our favorite spots in Pittsburgh.
Delicious, fresh, beautifully made food. Owner and staff are so passionate about their restaurant, makes being there feel like you’re participating in something special!! Such a better vibe than the new hotel bars and Brooklyn imports
This is the best food I have ever eaten. It's creative and interesting and expertly crafted, without being pretentious. Unlike most arty food, the portion sizes are good. It's amazing value for the prices. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is pretty. The hard surfaces make the restaurant very noisy; we switched to the small patio out back and that was much more pleasant.
Friendly staff and great food
I can’t say enough about The Vandal. Unique from top to bottom - thoughtful menu, drinks you’ll never find elsewhere. And, most importantly - DELICIOUS!! We enjoy every single bite and can’t wait to go back.
Outstanding as always, tied with Morcilla as my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. We try to go every two weeks.
The Vandal for our Tuesday dinner out ended up a disappointment for us. My wife had lettuce that she says was gritty, maybe it needed to be washed better? My snapper was extremely dry from being overcooked. Needless to say I won't be headed back in the near future.
The food was excellent! The server was super attentive and very nice. Great chill atmosphere. We will definitely be back.
Love the Vandal! Great food and great service!!
Definitely worth a visit. Small selection but all the food was very tasty and fresh. Drinks were great, service was good, we would go back.
We were so glad someone recommended The Vandal to us! It would be a fabulous NYC restaurant, never mind Pittsburgh.
The owner was our server. Absolutely every morsel was divine. I am definitely going back!
This place truly offers some of the best food in Pittsburgh. The service is wonderful, and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. And even more impressive is the very reasonable prices. I strongly recommend the Vandal.
Far surpasses many highly-rated restaurants in quality: I would compare it favorably to Gabrielle Hamilton’s Prune in NYC.
Amazing food, menu and service. The personal attention and recommendations for food was icing on the cake.
WOW. WOW. We've always loved it for Breakfast Brunch, but had our first dinner over the weekend. Absolutely some of the best dishes in the city. We sat on the patio which was so delightful and watched folks pick from the above garden for our seasonally fabulous cocktails. I had what was called the garden party and my husband the pickled ramp martini - YUM! We shared small plates with our two other friends. Each plate was better than the next. It's 1000000% our new go to for dinner.
Excellent food, wine selection, desserts, and atmosphere!
Best spot in the city: always pleasant & knowledgeable staff, fantastic selection of unique wines, and an ever changing menu featuring fresh dishes with well rounded flavor profiles, all with the feel of a bistro.
Totally blown away by our meal. Best piece of fish (red snapper) I’ve ever eaten. We are spoiled in Philly with fantastic restaurants but this place was as good if not better than most. Simple, charming and an excellent small wine list too. Go before ramps are out of season!
The food was AMAZING. We went on a Thursday for a birthday dinner and had the best food we’ve had in a while. The hamachi crudo and mussels were our favorites. The cocktails were interesting and delicious as well. The menu is on the small side but everything perfected and you can’t go wrong with any selection. Definitely will be back!
We had a great waitress, who I wish I could remember her name. Awesome experience. Made for a very special Mother's Day :)
Overpriced and very limited choice of main courses. Much fewer than menu on their website
Frequent often. Always incredible food, friendly, knowledgeable service.
My wife and I have been going to the Vandal for the last three years. In that time it has been through many changes, the latest being long time chef, Czilla Thackery, leaving. After our last meal I would say the kitchen has not lost a step. The food was interesting, tasty and well presented. The service was perfect. At times I pine for the "old days" at the Vandal with the BYOB program and lower prices, however every time we go to the Vandal we walk out exclaiming to ourselves what a great meal we had and how the quality of the food is equal to, or better, than most more established "fine dining" restaurants.
This was our first time eating here despite living very close by! The food was incredible, the best prosciutto I’ve ever had. The ambience was so relaxing, perfect for a date. We’ll definitely be back!
