The Vail Bar at Jockey Hollow Bar & Kitchen
This was our 1st inside dining experience since Covid 19 dining restrictions. We generally like sitting at the bar but it was not as expected. Our bartender was friendly with guests he knew and impressed them with remembering their names. As for us...my husband tried telling a joke...
No reaction as he moved on to another customer.
I cannot use a straw for medical reasons so he dumped the $18 dollar drink into a standard glass leaving a inch of the drink ...which he returned to to be bussed.
As I was sipping my drink he went to remove it...without asking if it was finished. I let him know I was still drinking it.
I have extensive dining experience at 5 star restaurants in every NFL city. This young man knows his drinks...but is challenged with social skills...that is unless he knows you.
Next time I’ll get a table...
Great service and very good food. We ordered the Maine lobster salad, the Jersey girl baratta appetizer, ravioli, and the roast chicken followed by poppy seed and chocolate cake desserts. The roast chicken is a new recipe and the only item I wouldn't order again. It was a pedestrian style and messy bone-in bbq sauce-laden chicken dish that is typical of a summer backyard cookout. JH can do much better. Still, JH is very good restaurant w great ambience and service and we will return.
Great service, excellent food, top notch cocktails. Great atmosphere.
Vail Bar great atmosphere with a good bartender, great baratta appetizer
Service was great, atmosphere was beautiful. Food was delicious, beer on tap was not ideal. Took the poor bartenders so long to get a decent pour that my beer was warm. Stick to bottles/cans!
Other than that it was great
Food was really, really good! Fun atmosphere and good service as well.
Excellent service - food was very good and they were able to accommodate the table allergies. The pork belly appetizer was outstanding. We will be back and next time order the chicken and the lobster risotto!
Jockey Hollow bar & kitchen is the definition of hospitality. Our sever and bartender were both very welcoming and accommodating! The food was delicious and felt super safe. Would 100% go back.
We went to The Vail Bar at Jockey Hollow for my husband's birthday. There were four of us. Overall the experience was very good. Though there was more noise in the room than I would have liked (I did call to confirm that we would have a room where we could talk and it wouldn't be noisy, but is still was a bit louder than I liked.)
Our servers were very good. Plates were on the smaller side so, if you like larger meals, I suggest ordering appetizers. The crab appetizer was okay -- the short rib was EXCELLENT.
I rated the value lower because the prices are very high for the small plates. However, the building is fantastic and it's a fun atmosphere, especially in the front bar area.
Many people go to the bar here to a large degree, for the crowd and fun atmosphere, so it is a very different experience these days. That said, the cocktails and bar staff are still outstanding, with much less of a wait and far more personal service. The food is still the same quality, and the space is still the same cool place it has always been.
From the service to the food- everything exceeded our expectations. We recommend the Pork Belly (scrumptious!), the cavatelli pasta with pesto (divine), and the Amish Chicken (juicy and rich).
I’ve been here a few times and had the same results. It’s a beautiful place, but average food, expensive drink and overall - way overpriced. In an area with some many good restaurants, save your money. You stumble into anyone of them and get better.
It was our first visit to the Library Bar since COVID and it was heaven! I appreciate all of the precautions Jockey Hallow is taking, I felt very comfortable. Wow, the hamburger was as wonderful as I remember, the best in Morristown! The cocktails were amazing too! All around a wonderful evening - thank you!!
Good food, great service, delicious cocktail. Would definitely go back.
Completely blown away by the service, the food and the cocktails. The bartenders and whoever the chef is back there do a phenomenal job. I’m excited to go back and try something new from the menu.
Reilly Gilligan is an absolute studmuffin
A very nice plan envisions and I will return. The menu is a bit limited and if you are looking for a huge portion this is not the place. But food is very good. Noise was fine but if it was a full capacity it might be a bit noisy.
Our reservation was for 7pm. Our entrée arrived close to 9pm. Why? Our server didn't know or wasn't informed the duck entrée was not being served. That should not happen at a supposedly high end restaurant.
Happily for you, the server knows instinctively about failure resolution and he immediately rebounded by offering us another bottle of wine gratis.
Nevertheless, that extraordinary wait plus the blaring noise of the bar made a bad impression.
I've been to Jockey Hollow and the Vail Bar a few times and have always really enjoyed my visit. Food and drinks have always been on point. This time, however, I had a lot of effing fun, to be quite frank. The drinks on this particular visit were outstanding, to say the least. Margie (I hope I spelled your name correctly) and everyone else behind the bar that night (sorry I forgot your names!!!) were just so nice, warm, informative, engaging, and awesome. Even the server who brought the meals over (forgot her name too, sooo sorry) was so nice and informative. I'm really looking forward to my next visit. Thank you all for a really fun time.
We are quite impressed with this place actually and it’s a great date night location. It’s a beautiful location and it’s nice sitting in the Vail bar which is a little more casual and having a drink and dinner
We were warmly welcomed at your restaurant and the bartender who served us food and drinks was fantastic and very attentive. It was a wonderful evening and delicious to boot!
Overall service and ambiance was nice however food was pricey and one of the smallest portions I have ever received. Scallops entree came with four scallops and no side for $32. Got an appetizer and dessert and left hungry.
Delicious food , special cocktails, friendly service
Timeless, classic and upscale ambience. Fantastic French wines by the glass available. Recommend back bar area for appetizers and fine wine and upscale cocktails.
great ambience. cacio e pepe pasta was fantastic. cant' be homemade pasta
The vail bar is a great space to have a fantastic meal. I ordered the beef tartare and the smoked fettuccine they were both absolutely delicious. Also the wine and cocktail menu is excellent. Don’t pass it up.
Excellent service in an elegant yet casual atmosphere. Very attentive staff, great menu and excellent drinks. Bar area so it can lively but not over the top. Have been twice and will return again!
Our first trip to the Vail Bar at Jockey Hollow was not a disappointment. Rather the service was excellent, wine, cocktail, and beer list albeit pricey and more like Manhattan prices, were very good. The menu at the bar is quite varied and interesting. Note portions are on the small side for many entrees and everything is ala carte. While I would heartily recommend I'd also warn that you'd better be prepared to spend a few dollars if your stay for a full dining experience. Make reservations, the tables in the Vail bar are limited. Particularly on nights where the theatre has events.
The food was exceptional and the service couldn't have been better! Waitress was incredibly knowledgable about our wine and the menu. Delicious! Loved the Vail Bar- cozy and perfect on a winter night!
Very over priced for selection of foods available. What was available was ok, lukewarm pancakes and pork along with runny omelets. Service was horrible. Took over 10 minutes to have waiter take drink order once seated and nobody checked on us once to see if needed/wanted anything in an hour and a half. In fact had to go up to bartender to get check and bring him my card, which he left out on the open bar for all to see.
Food was uncharacteristically mediocre and disappointing
Service was good but food was very average. No unique flavors .
New Years eve
Fun NYE prefixed menu and fun cocktails!
Vail Bar - quaint and enjoyable
Had such a fun time! This was my first time in. I was drawn by the reputation, excited for the menu and very pleased with the service. I highly recommend the "Vodka, Not Too Sweet" if you're looking for a cocktail that fits the name and like grapefruit. I also recommend the Shishito Peppers because they are like none other, super indulgent and you also can't go wrong with the Traditional Beef Tartare. I hope you check it out!
One of the entrees wasn’t to write home about but the bread place and tortellini entree was amazingly delicious.
My evening at Jockey Hollow was absolutely terrible. The service was mediocre, my entree was bland and flavorless, and my girlfriend’s dinner was entirely inedible. She literally took 1 bite and couldn’t eat it. We are not picky or stuck up, so for her to send a meal back, it had to be absolutely awful. And rather than bring her another meal or replace it free of charge, the manager gave her a single scoop of vanilla ice cream with a cookie. I will NEVER return to or recommend Jockey Hollow!
Was not happy with the food or atmosphere. We went on a quiet night and were seated near a very cold window. The drinks and food were also overpriced- not worth the value. The meal was also subpar and we left hungry. Was told wonderful things about this restaurant but was not impressed.
New server, not great service, but always fun atmosphere, exciting bar, and great food. Try the beet salad!
