Located on Newmarket Street, The Unthank Arms is a cosy neighbourhood gastropub in Norwich which is an idyllic place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. Also popular for weekday business meals and parties.

We serve food from 12pm and throughout the whole day and evening.

We have a large garden and outdoor area.

£10 Pasta and Wine on Mon & Tue nights is an unbeatable deal. Great portion sizes and high quality food. Outside of that deal, the food is fantastic, and is easily one of the best food-pubs in Norwich.

Food was very good. Desserts overpriced. Unfortunately for us a huge crowd of people came in for a function upstairs & were in the bar area too long & the noise from them was tremendous. It got so crowded we had a man's backside almost on our table, who could not just stand still bit swayed back & forth which wasn't pleasant. Thankfully half way through our meal, he went, before I asked him to move away! Other than that the food & service was very good.

Honestly not great. First time visiting, seated quickly and first drinks round were quick which were good. Table was booked for 4 people for 6, restaurant was busy but not rammed. All 4 of us ordered roasts, potatoes were poor and everything else was adequate but considering the cost and value of other pub roasts (e.g. The Eagle) it wasn't great. Staff member we are assuming is the manager (was wearing a different colour shirt) cleared all plates apart from one and didn't return to the table, waited approx. 15 mins before someone else cleared and they did not ask about desserts/drinks/the bill. A wait to order and receive desserts, then after plates were cleared a very long wait for someone to ask if we wanted the bill. Tried to flag down several staff who either avoided eye contact or were huddled around the bar talking and sipping drinks. We had to approach the bar in the end to ask for the bill, it was placed on the table and we then paid at the bar about 20 mins after as no one came back with a card machine (unsure if we were meant to pay at bar or not, no instruction given). The only staff member who smiled, was polite and gave good service had glasses & was blonde- she was lovely. All of us attending have restaurant/hospitality management experience and we know what it can be like when it's busy and a long day, especially on a bank holiday weekend, but honestly the whole experience was underwhelming and potentially could have been rectified by an attempt at customer service from the team.
