Food was simple but excellent. Had the steak and chips
Service very good, food to a good standard, fish special excellent
This was first time in the Union but it won't be the last. It was a little too quiet, a Friday lunchtime, but the staff were very friendly and hopeful and the food was very good.
Great food, lovely staff, good value for money.
A very memorable meal. Can't fault it at all. Lovely ambience and delicious food. Highly recommended.
First time here, the food was excellent, staff were lovely, will definitely go back
No ambiance and very cold room ! We been using this restaurant for 2yrs and always good but we so disappointed with this visit
First time here, but not the last. Fantastic fish. Had excellent deserts and cocktails too. Thank you.
The service was friendly and efficient. The food was amazing, great flavours and fabulous quality. A real find, would recommend to anyone.
Very good steaks & friendly staff, one in particular was very friendly. Lovely evening!
We went on a busy evening. The menu was short but interesting . Service was excellent.
Will go again when we return to Rye.
Top notch food and great service.
Great steak but waitress was quite rude and didn't have good manners.
Lovely food in a warm characterful setting. Service was good, efficient and friendly.
The food was good, we had onion bread and goats cheese dip with radishes to start which was nice but maybe a bit tight on the bread £4 for 1 bread roll seemed a bit steep.
Our main courses marsh lamb for my husband and barbary duck for me were both exceptional - I would definitely recommend.
We had a lovely meal at the Union, would definitely recommend!
Excellent service, the food was wonderful, great quality meats, lovely presentation. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere.
Delicious! Would highly recommend! We had crab and lamb and chocolate mousse! So good!
My 3 friends and I had a wonderful evening at The Union. The atmosphere was great and the manager, Anna who served us was really good. Helpful, welcoming, entertaining and informative. The food was delicious and the wine too.
Lovely ambience, very relaxing and a delicious meal.
Wonderful food with wonderful service. It was a clod rainy night when went and it was wonderful to walk into the warmth of the welcome and the great smells emanating from the kitchen.
The food was superb with layers of flavours and good mix of textures.
The Union version of a whisky sour is a thing of wonder.
The only tiny gripe is that the gazpacho could have had more flavour.
Apart from that I would strongly recommend this to anyone
Not a good experience. We were shown to our table, which in these COVID times should have been sanitised prior to our arrival. The area was quite dimly lit and it was not until we were perusing the menu that we noticed the state of the table. It was dirty and moreover there was still food left scattered all over the table clearly from the previous occupants. In the current climate, establishments need to make sure that customers feel confident in putting their safety into the venue's hands. If you cannot even get front of house correctly done, it certainly does not inspire confidence for the place as a whole. This table was booked several weeks in advance, so our arrival was no surprise, they weren't squeezing us in at short notice. The simple fact was that due care was not taken and there is no excuse for that. Procedures should be in place to ensure this does not happen, but there was no adhering to rules on this occasion.
We did not want to stay and eat here as a result of this experience and left before we could even order. One of our party informed a member of staff as to why we were leaving, and the response was merely "ohhh".
I never write a critical review unless I feel it is absolutely necessary but on this occasion it is more than justified. Most people feel slightly twitchy about eating out these days and look for everything to be in place to make us feel comfortable, reassured and happy to be enjoying an evening out. Sadly, this was a big let down for us. Such a disappointment, I hope it was a blip but as this was my first visit to The Union I really could not say.
Superb food! As always.
Lovely location and steak cooked to perfection.
This was one of the best meals we have had in many a long day. Beautifully cooked and nicely presented. Pigeon breast starter and marsh lamb main course for us both.
Lovely restaurant only criticism is that they had run out of a lot of choices ie only 2 starters on offer but the food that we had was delicious
Great service, great food. Very polite staff. Will definitely go again.
Delicious food beautifully presented. Great atmosphere with friendly service.
Limited vegetarian option helps people who struggle to decide: the Pearl barley risotto was delicious.
Warm & friendly staff.
Had lovely meal there recently. Steak was one of the best I’ve had. Staff were lovely and friendly. Best dining experience I’ve had in long time. Definitely recommend
Nice food and wine, service good to start with but a bit slower as the evening went on, took a while to get someone’s attention to get the bill. Lemon posset was delicious!
Food was lovely, staff were good bit more ambience about the place would be good although I do appreciate it is difficult as this moment in time. Overall food quality was good
Nice place, nice ambience, good service. The food was a little disappointing, good ideas and ingredients but I felt it was sent out a bit lazily. ( burnt bread roll etc ) overall experience was really nice though.
Food was freshly cooked, local and delicious. Service was great and staff lovely and friendly.
I had a wonderful birthday dinner at the Union. The food was top notch and the service excellent. We had delicious wine and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
The staff were lovely but we were put in a room at the back and were a bit cut off from everyone else in the restaurant.
Great service, nice setting and excellent steak. Perfect for the occasion.
Service was good and efficient, fillet steaks were exceptionally good. Cooked to (our) perfection.
Lovely little restaurant, great service and menu however 3 out of our 5 meals (lamb & steak) came out very cold. They were cooked perfectly but it seemed like they’d be left to rest for far too long and everything on the plate had gone cold. We flagged this to the servers who were apologetic & offered to heat them up but by this point we just wanted to eat as a family so we finished. They knocked the 2 bottles of wine we had off the bill as a gesture of goodwill which was appreciated. Would definitely come back!
Had our anniversary meal at The union while we were visiting Rye. Restaurant was really nice. Staff were very pleasant friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. Food was delicious but could of been a bit hotter. Felt a bit rushed I think due to us not sitting down till 8.30pm and the kitchen closing at 9.30pm.
Arrived 10 mins late . Staff made us welcome nevertheless. Tables well spaced out for precautions during Corona Virus. Staff friendly. Food served at a reasonable time.
The Marsh Lamb was very good.My preference would be a touch warmer but otherwise well worth choosing.. Wife had Chicken. Also very good standard.
