It took 3 hours to have the three courses. They were understaffed with one girl behind the bar and taking the order, when she remembered! The chef/server was dividing his time between the kitchen, serving at the table and behind the bar. Although the food was excellent when it came the wait for each course was just purely unacceptable. If it hadn't been for the fact that I took my son and his girlfriend out for a birthday lunch, I would have left. Also there was a compulsory?? discretionary service charge added to the bill

Menu choices were a little uninspiring, just a small step up from what you might cook at home. All cooked well and hot , fine for a get together, maybe not for a celebratory meal out

First time we’ve eaten there. Only the owner serving drinks, food, cooking, clearing tables etc!!!! What a great guy! (Chris). He was under pressure as his staff member had to go home. We were pleasantly surprised to find the food so much better than expected as we’d heard not great reviews from past years. We can honestly say, it’s worth a visit! He accommodated my dietary needs as nothing on menu I liked. We’ll definitely be returning.

One Chief is not enough to service the number of tables 1 very good waitress and one very good bar man. Service too slow, food good, needs more staff.

Despite the fact that there was no-one in the pub the service was shambolic. On a hot evening we were brought two warm bottles of wine and a cold drink took half an hour to arrive. Menu was limited but the chef did make us something we could eat which was tasty. There was one ' waitress' who didn't really know what was going on . This has always been a great village pub so we are perplexed as to what has happened?

We have been visiting the Unicorn for many years, but its unlikely that we'll go again unless something changes. The menu on a SATURDAY evening consisted of 4 choices of starter and 4 choices of main course; the main courses were Burger, Sausages, Veggie Pasta or Deep fried whitebait. We both had prawn cocktail salad to start which was very good and our main courses were fine, but I don't go out to a restaurant (not a pub meal) on a Saturday night for a main meal of a burger. The cost for these 2 courses was £ 23.10 including service; assuming (generously) that the starter was £ 8.00 then the burger or sausage costs £ 15.10 including service..... We were charged service on our whole bill, even though we collected our first drinks from the bar........ I do prefer that a restaurant does a few things well, rather than having a huge menu, but I think one would expect more than these 4 "cheap" offerings from a restaurant on a Saturday night.

Booked six weeks ago after a previous fantastic experience here. Honestly don’t know what was going on but it was like there was no communication going on between the staff. Taken to the table without menus or an offer of drinks, the food order was taken after a while but after nearly an hour still no food. It wasn’t overly busy but our second round of drinks sat ready at the bar for a considerable amount of time. That was our cue to leave, paid for the drinks we had and walked out. A real shame.
