We had wanted to visit the Ubiquitous Chip for years so perhaps had too high expectations. We were in the Restaurant, eating from the A la Carte menu. The service was good but the overall experience was no more than ok , which is not what I’d expect for a meal that cost £75 per head all in ( 3 courses for 3 people and 2 courses for the other two, 1 bottle of wine and a couple of beers). Two areas which were particularly disappointing - 1. The toilets were awful - cramped, grubby, one was out of order and one had pipes held together with gaffer tape and it was still leaking. The toilet roll dispensers hadn't been filled up so you had to take toilet paper from the large, industrial roll which was damp because of the leaking pipe. I understand the the gents were just as bad. 2. the vegetarian option was very disappointing - a dish of largely leeks and onions (i.e. basically the same vegetable). Lovely presentation but just not very imaginative or interesting and, after a while indigestible. The steaks were no more than OK and a bit tough. Also a bit surprised to find that the steaks came with no accompanying veg/ chips and we had to buy potatoes as an additional item. We booked for a special celebration and enjoyed the event but the meal and venue were disappointing.

Amazing! First I have been but definitively not the last! beautiful place, great service, the food was amazing; the puddings were out of this world! Great evening, no rush to leave the table which was lovely as we were 8 and enjoyed our evening eating, chatting and drinking. Thanks to all the team.

The food was exceptional and the customer service excellent. We had the loveliest waitress. Nothing was too much trouble and we had great fun together. The Chip is always special.

The staff were very attentive and friendly. The martini cocktails were nice, but can't say much about some of the others, either too weak or too strong. The food in the restaurant downstairs was first class, so tasty and delicious. Hats off to the chef.

Lovely location which was great for a memorable afternoon. The food was very tasty and beautifully presented and the service was ok. However, this was let down by the cost. £120 for 1 starter, 2 mains, a glass of Pimm’s and a glass of of lemonade would need to be very special to be value for money, but it wasn’t .
