The Twisted Frenchman
The Twisted Frenchman is a modern French restaurant located on the 2nd floor of 5925 Baum Boulevard. Carrying on the tradition of the original location, Chef Andrew Garbarino will take guests through a tasting experience of 4, 8, 14 or 21 courses. Each dish is a sensory delight, prepared with modern techniques to immerse guests in their meal.
Patrons will have cocktails available from La Riviera, which draws upon the ideology of the kitchen; to make each beverage an unforgettable experience. Classic cocktails will pay homage to their origins while being transformed into new creations.
The wine list will offer selections from classic French regions focused on terroir-driven growers and producers, both by the glass and by the bottle. The sommelier team will also have wine pairings available for each tasting menu.
Everything was outstanding at the Twisted Frenchman. There is nothing that could be improved. It’s our favorite special occasion restaurant.
This was our first visit for a special birthday treat, on a weekday evening. The room was quiet and relaxed. We had a 4 course dinner with wine pairings. The food presentation was outstanding; each plate was a delight to the eyes. The flavors on many dishes were complex with a few unexpected twists; but every dish was very delicious. The staff was very attentive, friendly and comfortably casual with their interactions. We are looking forward to coming back with friends.
I had been to The Twisted Frenchman once before. At that time, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. In fact, I couldn’t wait to return with my husband for our anniversary dinner. It was my husband’s first experience. We were happy with the food but it was not as tasty as my first experience. We felt that the service was inconsistent. Our waitress was kind but did not check on us during each course. It seems that the staff helps each other out throughout the evening which certainly helped in our entrees arriving in a timely manner. However, when you pay for such a pricey meal, I feel that you should be checked on during each course.
We were the only group because the reservation was Thursday 5:30.
Exceeded expectations. Would recommend it to anyone wanting a fine dining experience.
They got everything else right .. except the food. It was just not good
Why let the food was delicious, and the service was wonderful, the only thing missing was ambient music.
Delicious eight course meal. Picture perfect plates with seasonal ingredients. I can’t wait for another special occasion to go.
Visiting from San Francisco and very pleased with my experience. Good food, nice presentation, friendly server, great decor
All was very good, but the courses/wine were served too close together, little rushed, and some background music, perhaps jazz guitar, piano and the like., might have improved the ambience.
The service was very well done, as all the servers were helpful, but not overbearing. The atmosphere was very comfortable we all loved the comfort of the chairs. The food was disappointing. We all loved the first two dishes, the potato and leek soup and the beets. The rest of the six courses were not impressive. The sauces lacked flavor and the risotto, for example, was over salted. I was really looking forward to this restaurant because of the positive reviews and the menu, but I was not impressed with the execution of the dishes.
Highly recommended for fine dining with professional staff that made the experience more enjoyable. Dinner was delicious! Presentation was perfect!
Very good meal. Service staff excellent. Dinner rolls could have been served for dessert. Everything was great!
Great experience start to finish. Attentive waitstaff. Quiet room. Stunning food with thoughtful wine pairings. Highly recommend for a special occasion.
Arguably, one of the top two or three restaurants in the city. Typical french restaurant...beautiful presentation, impeccable service, singular in taste, stop at Subway on the way home because you are still hungry. Clearly, this is a destination and special event restaurant. If you don't mind the price, it's A++. But prepare for at least $100/person and leaving a little hungry.
My wife and I paid our first visit since the restaurant moved to the new location and we had an absolutely lovely, elegant meal. We chose the 4 course meal so chose each course from a selection of several dishes instead of the chef’s choice 8 or 12 course meal. The flavors are refined and each dish is presented beautifully. I had the wine pairing which seemed a very good deal at an additional $35 for what seemed a full glass with each of the 4 courses. The service from the staff was impeccable. We shall be back!
Only true fine dining restaurant in Pittsburgh. We've followed Andrew across locations and find he continues to provide the best food in Pittsburgh on the par if not superior to the private clubs. Last night's leek & potato soup with white truffle foam was as fine a dish as I have been served anywhere. Wine list is strong as well and priced amazingly close to cost.
Food was wonderful 😊
The entire experience was outstanding. Hospitality in particular was quite pleasant. Food was delicious.
The menu is inventive and good, with many dishes well done and always well presented. Beet dish and soup were especially good. Boullabaise was seriously undercooked. Our evening got off to a bad start with table not ready, being sent downstairs to the bar, then up too early, back down, and finally seated 45 minutes late. We know delays sometimes happen, but the man in charge was not gracious in handling the situation. Our waiter was excellent, though. Overall this restaurant has lots of potential for a special meal, but things just didn''t go so well for us that night.
Service was slow. We were there for 2.5 hours. Food was good. Rich. But I wasn’t blown away.
Beautiful ambiance, and fine dining all in one. Third time back and perfection each time.
Very accommodating to vegetarian and gluten free diners, beautiful presentation, wine pairing was perfect
Decided to give the Twisted Frenchman a try because of the Pgh30 specials going on around town, which gives you a chance to try select restaurants around the area at a pre fixe menu for a discounted price (although still ranging from $30-39). Overall experience was ok, but not great. The restaurant is very very quiet.. almost too quiet. No music could be heard and felt like we could hear everything everyone was saying. We had to ask for the pgh30 “special” menu... and once we did our waiter quickly was less interesting impressing us. The potato leek soup was very good (could’ve been little hotter) and the chicken poussain entree was just ok. Again nothing extraordinary. Dinner Portions are super tiny. Had the dark chocolate soufflé which was the best part... melted in our mouths! Wine was waaay overpriced with not many mid priced selections.
Overall, it was a great way to try a restaurant we would not normally go to, but we felt like the staff dismissed us since we were not paying regular prices. So why participate in the pgh30 if you’re not ok with folks coming in to actually try it out?!?
This was a date night for my husband and I. Our first two courses and dessert were amazing. Beautiful presentation and simply delicious. The third course was a bit of a let down. I would definitely go back. Great place for an intimate dinner or group, high end dining experience. Our waiter was top notch.
Best meal we have ever had in Pittsburgh. Hands down.
Wonderful restaurant with quiet, European ambiance. It was nice to actually be in a restaurant that was quiet enough to enjoy conversation and not have to shout. Service was excellent and attentive. Timing of the 4 course meal was spot on. And the food was creative and delicious with sauces that enhanced the flavors of the food without being overwhelming. We will be back!
Everything is perfect at the Twisted Frenchman, a special occasion restaurant.
Nice place to splurge for special occasions.
Great food and service !
Enjoyed the service. The staff was knowledgeable and attentive. The food was impeccably prepared and uniformly delicious.
Great for a date night. They were serving a Valentine’s Day menu, which was not mentioned on the website and wasn’t expecting that. Really wanted duck but got filet. The overall quality of the 5 courses were good except for the lobster risotto. The risotto was slightly under the lobster was slightly over and the filet was nothing to write home about. Highlight was actually the cocktail before dinner, the champagne, and the tomato soup. I’ve been to many Michelin star restaurants and know why fine dining is. This one came up just a little short. But I would certainly come back and give them another shot. Overall food was good not amazing. Service was good not great. Wine pairing was acceptable however too heavy of wine to pair with the filet. Heavy cab base overpowered the filet making the meat taste flat compared to the heavy wine, a lighter red would have been better maybe a pinot noir or a merlot based. Will go again when I can pick from their 4 course menu. Presentation was great just some of the seasoning fell a bit flat to me. However i did hear the chef was not feeling all that well on the night I went (something about he had some bad chicken at some point) overall good date experience.
The food and wine were brilliant! It was valentines week so we had the price fixe menu— I especially liked the foie gras and hope it’s on their regular menu. It was a wonderful meal and I’m looking forward to the next time.
Was such a wonderful evening with a delicious experience!
The food stood up to this highly respected restaurant’s reputation. We had the eight course meal, which was exceedingly satisfying, And the server recommended some nice wine when we did not choose the wine pairing.
Excellent fine dining restaurant. As someone who was born in Pittsburgh and was back for a visit it was great to see this type of experience being offered in Pittsburgh. Great experience all around!
This was one big disappointment from the moment you walk in . I’ve never written a review on a restaurant before .
I just don’t go back if it was a bad experience . But I’m going to give this place the lowest score possible , so nobody else will suffer the waste of time and money .
Made reservation for a special occasion and all 4 people
In my party was disappointed , and believe it or not after
Leaving we went to another place to eat . I had the
Steak as my main course and it was the size of an
Ice cube and tuff.
I read about this place before going . It mentioned this
Multi million dollar renovation ,, and I thought “wow”
This place must be great ,,,what a joke !
If you make the mistake of going you’ll see what I mean
And you will regret it .
I read every review posted before going , they where 90%
Obviously they are fake .
Other than Uber having the wrong address, my new bride and I thoroughly enjoyed everything. The food was outstanding and the chef sent recommendations during our 4 course meal. Highly recommend!
The food is outstanding, as are the wine pairings! The service is excellent! Really a lovely foodie experience. The decor and ambience could do with a change.
