French

The Twisted Frenchman is a modern French restaurant located on the 2nd floor of 5925 Baum Boulevard. Carrying on the tradition of the original location, Chef Andrew Garbarino will take guests through a tasting experience of 4, 8, 14 or 21 courses. Each dish is a sensory delight, prepared with modern techniques to immerse guests in their meal.

Patrons will have cocktails available from La Riviera, which draws upon the ideology of the kitchen; to make each beverage an unforgettable experience. Classic cocktails will pay homage to their origins while being transformed into new creations.

The wine list will offer selections from classic French regions focused on terroir-driven growers and producers, both by the glass and by the bottle. The sommelier team will also have wine pairings available for each tasting menu.

Dinner with my stepdaughter before a show. Our dining experience was wonderful. The food was both beautiful and delicious. The attention to detail was exquisite and the service was highly professional and knowledgeable, but not intrusive.

Worst service , from the manager , who gave us the wrong wine and was very rude when we asked about it Food was ok. Not worth it. Avoid this place unless they change management

We admitted that a typo had happened, you were presented the bottle of wine, it was opened, tasted and poured after that you then decided to inform us of the error. The manager apologized and brought back the list for you to chooses another bottle. we tried to remove this bottle! While we were trying to clear the bottle, you then decided to keep it, when it was't take off your check is when you decided to complain again. We tried everything to correct the situation, you only wanted a free bottle

We had a beautiful table with a window view that was ready for us upon arrival. Everyone was very nice, but the service did not match the restaurant's price point. Servers did not take our order for a while and did not routinely check in to see how we liked the food or if we needed anything. After 6 courses with wine pairings (which were the highlight - the pairings worked very well!), I was hoping to leave stuffed, but instead I was still hungry. I would recommend if the price wasn't so high for what you get, which was lovely, but not a high value.

The food was outstanding. We had 4 starters and 4 entrees that we decided to split amongst the 4 of us. We created our own tasting menu. Everything was incredible. Our only complaint was the dining room a bit bright and sterile.

The food is pretty to look at but very average in taste. The salmon had no seasoning and the chicken was overdone.

The Cuisine at the establishment was phenomenal. We had a 4 course tasting and just when you think “this is it” the next course is even more astonishing than the last. Ingredients not typically to my liking were surprisingly delectable, a transforming experience. Lastly the service was the upmost respectable, overall leaving a lasting impression on Fine Dining.

We did the 6 course w/ wine pairing. While it was very good, I don’t believe that the food and price lined up with each other

Had a lovely dinner experience here. The staff was warm and friendly, walked us through the wines, food and menu options. We opted for the 6 course over the 4 just to give our celebration a little more umph, and I did’t disappoint. Will definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for something special.

Wow! What a find, this might be the best restaurant Pittsburgh has to offer. Service was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was very relaxing and comfortable. We decided to have the foie gras which was to die for, the scallop with watermelon which was very interesting and for our entree have the lobster spaghetti and the lamb. The lobster was too filling, we brought most of
It back with us, a good amount of lobster meat all tossed in a buttery, lobster sauce...yum. The lamb was a presented as a full rack which I ate most of it and for dessert we split a soufflé. Definitely a recommend from us!

I was really looking forward to going out to the Twisted Frenchman. I had the reservations made weeks in advance. We arrived and what a beautiful restaurant! The ambiance was short lived. Our server was very friendly, but we waited quite a long time for our wine and to order, and then even longer for our bill. The food choices did not wow me. I ordered the lobster pasta and my sister the veggie Gnocci. The only gnocci were few and doughy. The veggies and sauce were good. My lobster past was bland. Tasted like a butter cream(heavy in the cream) and had a disappointing amount of lobster, 4 bites. The wine was incredible. Overall, I think the cost for food is far too high for what we were served. I love trying new places, but this was just so disappointing.

Upstairs over a crowded Italian restaurant is the twisted Frenchman. An entirely different atmosphere subdued, sophisticated, the kind of ambience appropriate for special occasions. My Bronzino it’s perfectly prepared in a salt encrusted shell that was expertly dealt with at the table side. My dinner companion also had a wonderful ratatouille.

I don't usually write negative reviews - in fact, this is the only negative review I have posted on Open Table - but since I sent a detailed email to the restaurant ten days ago and have received no response, I am sharing my experience publicly.

In brief: three hours for a six course tasting menu is absurd. The website advertised a four course menu for $45, which what we intended to have. When presented with menus, we learned that the only tasting menu on offer was 6 courses at $90. Probably we should have left then, but this was our anniversary dinner...

There were competing sources of music, one from the dining room and the other, I presume, from the kitchen.

Service was very nice, and the plating of the courses was artistic and unusual. The food was mostly very good, with the exception of badly overcooked prawns that should not have been allowed to leave the kitchen.

We can't get over the ridiculously long waits between courses. If they were short-handed, or ran into some other kind of trouble, apologies would have been accepted; in those situations, a good restaurant provides a little taste of cheese or an extra glass of wine, and everyone proceeds in good humor. Instead, it was clear they didn't care about our experience. Their lack of interest is now reciprocated.

Delicious Risotto { as if my favorite could have become more flavorful } and Beef Wellington that melts in your mouth created an ambiance for a relaxing evening. This was topped with impeccable service. Yes... we will return!

Food was excellent - as was wait staff. Manager was a bit off - but okay. Just an observation - on the sides of the restaurant, one party in each party is directly facing a wall - not as enjoyable as in the middle of the room or next to the windows. Finally, seems the prices have increased - getting rather expensive.

Service was stuffy and lacked personality. Food was good not great. Wine pairings were just OK. They only offer a 6 course or ala carte - not the 4 course or 8 course like website.

The food generally was very good and quite exquisite, with interesting additions like chili foam, beautiful merengue decor, and unique combinations. The salmon and caviar appetizer was particularly good, though a bit small. I also very much enjoyed the risotto and the lamb wrapped lamb. The NY strip I had also had great flavor, but was not particularly tender. The wine pairing complemented the food, but I don't think any of the wine I had stood out in any way.
My biggest complaint was the seating. I sat on the bench seating again the wall, which was noticeably higher than the armchair my date was seated in across from me. The bench was just much too high for the table and made for an extremely uncomfortable seating position. Probably only a good seat if you're a particularly short person.

We had the four course tasting menu and wine pairing. The wines were less interesting than the food, but at $65 for the food and $35 for the wine, it was a pretty good value. We left feeling satisfied but neither stuffed nor tipsy after a martini and four wine pairs. The "lamb within lamb" was quite good as one entree -- ground lamb encasing a thick lamb chop. The bouillabaisse, however, was not as expected. The seafood was fine, but it was NOT swimming in a delicious broth. Instead, it was sitting atop a seafood reduction that could have had more oomph as well as volume. Sweet corn risotto was good. Salmon caviar atop a smoked salmon mouse was fair. The fowl pate was also fair. Desserts were again OK but not special. Nice server. The place has an open ambiance, maybe too open, but the tables were well spaced. A good dinner, but I don't think I'd go back.

in a word: disappointing! When we arrived, we requested a window table and were told they were all reserved. However, we made this reservation the very first few days that Restaurant Week was announced,- apparently that gave us no priority. After our meal and getting ready to leave, window tables were still available. Further, the maitra d was not congenial at all! He made us feel like he was doing us a favor by allowing us to eat there!

The first course, pea risotto was delicious. We had the lamb wrapped in lamb (the lamb chops were over-cooked, I requested medium and there was no pink) and also ordered the small steak, which was tough - some of it could not be chewed. We were also disappointed in the desserts. The wines were mediocre!

We have eaten in many French restaurants - both in Pittsburgh, other major cities in the US and in Paris! I expressed my feelings to the maitra d when we left and told him we would not be back and he was not concerned!

After all the hype about the restaurant, we were expecting great dinner. We are familiar with Michelin places; perhaps our expectations were too great. The service was marginal at best; we sat for more than 30 min before we were offered anything. Rather than a full meal our choice was a 4 or 9 course tasting menu; unknown to us. We selected the 4 course. The strip steak offering consisted of 2 tiny strips of meat. We opted for the wine pairing with each course. None of the wines had any real character and the dessert Madeira wine, for us, was undrinkable. And a French restaurant without a cheese course??
