   We choose the bar in the Trout when we want a quiet lunch where you can meet up with friends, have nice food and good service. The bar is always quiet, as in low noise levels,and you can have a proper conversation without struggling to hear. We all chose a sandwich with chips which was beautifully presented with salad and crisps, and great value for money. The coffee with a lovely home made shortbread biscuit is a nice treat.

   OK sort of lunch. Comfortable chairs. No table water offered. Ordered chicken and was served beef! Rioja which was ordered from the wine list, not the same as the bottle which arrived. Nothing special but local !

   We went for Sunday Lunch; a regular occurrence when we visit Cockermouth. We found all the long standing waiting staff had left and been replaced by people who had no idea of service. Our roast dinners were served plated up and cold gravy had been poured over the food. In the past we used to receive serving containers and a gravy tureen but no longer. The small roast dinner had increased in price by almost 50% but we received less than previously. A Yorkshire pudding was placed on top of the food which made it difficult to actually access anything. There were two waiting staff but they spent so much time elsewhere they may as well not have been there. We heard one customer ask for tartar sauce to accompany her fish and was brought tomato sauce! The atmosphere was dreadful, made worse by loud pop music which one of the customers asked if it could be turned down. After coming here for many years and thoroughly enjoying our visits we will never return!

   Food was nice but disappointing to be rung 3 days before the booking to inform of a menu change. This was very limited and quite pricey. We had no other option but to keep the booking as everywhere was booked due to it being mother's day and our group was 7 people.

   We all enjoyed our roast dinners the Yorkshire pudding are fab and such tasty gravy our young diners age 4 and 7 were treated really well and nothing was too much trouble We love lunch at the trout
