About The Trident
The Trident Restaurant is located "on the water" in historic Sausalito, CA
Our heated outdoor decks provide a sensational dining experience with spectacular San Francisco bay views. Our outdoor deck is also dog friendly.
Inside is an incredible recipe of art and architecture, complemented with a resemblance of an old yacht. The ceiling mural was original to the Trident and painted by Dave Richards, creator of Janis Joplin’s infamous 1965 Porsche Cabriolet. On the outside deck, discover one of the most stunning restaurant waterfront views on the west coast, which boasts the skyline of San Francisco, Angel Island and Alcatraz. The Trident Ratings and Reviews
It’s my favorite place to bring out of town business guests for lunch as well as my Holiday Tradition of watching the annual Sausalito Christmas Lighted Boated Parade. Food and service is the best, although highly over priced for not getting the Special course menu for the special evening. Plus you have to pay a lot for valet parking, unlike The Buckeye, Marin Joe’s and other fine establishments that do not charge their guests. This is why I go here in very limited times.
Atmosphere is very nice and the views are breathtaking. Beautiful setting.
My guest ordered the halibut special and presentation and flavor were fantastic. I ordered the scallops with specific directions for them to be cooked well done for medical reasons. The entree arrived and scallops barely cooked. I sent them back and requested further cooking. They were returned to me nearly burnt and the lentils and squash under them were cold. By this time my guest had finished dinner so I chose not to send my entree back a second time. It certainly was a waste of $30.
The Trident is our go-to restaurant for special occasions, mainly because of its fantastic view overlooking the bay. Unless it's raining, we sit outside on their wonderful deck. This last occasion was Thanksgiving, and my husband and I chose to break with tradition and not have turkey. Instead, I had the petite fillet and my husband had prime rib. Both dishes were fantastic; flavorful without being overpowered with herbs, extremely tender, and just-right portion size. The only negative was the long period of time it took to get a basket of bread. We asked multiple times and had been served our entrees before it came. The waiter let us know it had just been baked, and it was indeed warm. If we had known right away that a batch was about to be pulled from the oven, the delay would have been more understandable. All in all, though, this meal rates four stars, as does the ambiance.
As usual, I had a lovely lunch with my friend. The wait staff are attentive and accommodating. Trident has an unbelievable view affording all the patrons a sweeping view of the Bay and the bridges - absolutely wonderful ambiance. I love the variety in the menu and I'm never disappointed when I try something new. Thank you, Trident. Appreciate your service.
We loved the food, but our friend that was with us had a bad experience. She is vegetarian and ordered a dish without bacon. It came to the table with bacon and was sent back. She did not get a new dish in a timely manner and the rest of us were done with our meals before hers even arrived. Our waiter did not even try to make it up to her by offering her a salad or something she could eat while she waited. It was a disappointment because it was a special occasion for all of us. I am a server in a catering company, and the service we had was unacceptable.
We saw the Trident featured on the Travel Channel and, like the tourists we are, we HAD to check it out when we stayed in San Francisco for our honeymoon. We absolutely loved it! The food was delicious and the view was AMAZING! My husband loved the Trident Sunrise so much that he had 3 of them :o) Google the origin of the tequila sunrise drink!
We had an 8:30 reservation and were rushed from the moment we sat down, we were informed the kitchen closed at 9pm and were told if we wanted desert we had to order it when we ordered our meal. We weren't even finished our desert when then turned all the lights on in the restaurant, it was disgraceful! If you want to close early and throw customers out, don't allow late reservations!!!
On Sunday, September 3, 2017, The hostess was rude; we were told at 7:45 PM but they close at 8:30 and would not take any walk-ins.
I explained that we have been calling on the phone with and no one answered and it went to voicemail. The hostess repeated that they are taking any walk-ins. I asked how we possibly could have made a reservation since they were answering their phone.
She replied by saying, "it doesn't matter because we're not seating anyone else- we've seated our last party.
The sign, and parking attendant, stated they closed at 10 PM; where are the hostess insisted that they were closing at 8:30 PM-which was 45 minutes from the time Our party of 3 arrived.
This is not the way to do business, or encourage us to recommend a restaurant or other venue to ANYONE else.
Despite the hostess attitude, I went online and booked a table for a party of three.
When I re- appeared at the hostess desk, and told her and I had a reservation for three, she gave me a dirty look, asked before my name, and confirmed it in their reservation system.
At that point, she let us to the back deck of the restaurant, with a water view overlooking the city, as we requested-- but as a final "f--k you" - she seated us any dirty table- which was covered with a sticky liquid substance- likely as spilled drink or two.
Sad part, is that I used to go to the Trident all the time - a few years ago- and this is my first time back to dine at the Trident since... and my last time !
Once you get past the young ladies at the front who seem to be annoyed (this has happened to us twice the last few months), the rest of the service is good The food is great and the view can't be beat. We regularly introduce this spot to guests and visitors.
After picking up my son from the rec, we wanted to take a stroll along the waterfront after some ice cream. We decided on Trident as it offered a cheeseburger. I wanted mussels and being the weather was quite warm, we sat outside. The service was lacking, our waiter would take a long time to return and check on us, even when we wanted to pay the check and go, the waiter was nowhere to be found. I just had my son get up and look for him. This is why I don't dine at touristy restaurants, especially in Sausalito. I didn't feel like fighting the traffic up North to Larkspur in hideous traffic, we decided spontaneous to have dinner here. Good thing I didn't have high expectations, as I remember when this place used to be Horizon. At least the view never disappoints, next time we'll stick to eating/drinking on the dock of the Bay!
It was a beautiful night so we went for the view which is spectacular. The service not so much. Let's just say I've tipped 15% almost never in my adult life. This was one of those nights. The waiter was slow, inattentive and blah. If you can stomach the poor service and over priced food, go for the food. If not try next door.
Trident has a beautiful location on the water but the food isnd drinks are terrible. Nothing is fresh. The crab cakes were frozen and the scallops were salty. Also, the drinks were disgusting. I ordered the million dollar margarita and it was not palpable. Trident just seems like a tourist trap.
