My brother, visiting from Sarasota, Florida, found The Top to have "excellent cuisine and outstanding service in an elegant and very tasteful atmosphere; an excellent dining experience." He had escargot followed by a petit filet. Our guest also had a petit filet and she likewise found it to be excellent. I also started with escargot, followed by wonderful, well-prepared prime rib. All three dinners were accompanied by huge Idaho baked potatoes and equally large portions of broccoli. The Top is a first-class, first-rate 1950s era steakhouse. This was the second visit to The Top for all three of us. We would all go back again and highly recommend it.
It was ok, not the best by any means though. I don't like the caddy of sour cream and butter for the potatoes. I asked for it on the side and then it was plopped all over my potato.
Steak was a little cold, broccoli was crunchy and not cooked through. My husbands bacon wrapped filet-bacon was fatty and greasy and when he took it off the steak, it was grey underneath.
I took my filet home and it tasted better the next day in my quesadilla that I put it in.
I didn't see anyone under the age of 30 eating there, mostly people who probably have been eating there since the day they opened with their parents and they "think" it's good because there is nothing else to compare it to.
I'd rather drive 90 minutes and go back to Ruth Chris in Cincinnati and I will next time.
Always love going to The Top! Great service, and absolutely the best steak in town! Plenty of non-beef options, too.
Excellent meal and service. We were glad we had reservations as it was packed even on a Thursday night. Already planning another visit.
The Top Regularly wins stakehouse of the year in Columbus for good reason. The food is amazing and the dining room is like being in an episode of Mad Men. It is expensive but worth it.
The top was amazing and exceeded our expectations in every way. The staff rivaled the food for high end quality and we will be back for future special occasions!!
Always the perfect evening. Best friends, food and service.
Old school classic.
They did a bait and switch with the advertised dinner menu. I will not return there. I have had many dinners there in the past. Must have new management. The live music was terrible
The food was amazing! We loved the atmosphere, the drinks were perfect. Everyone was very upbeat and very helpful, I can't wait to go back!
We had the most delicious meal - prime rib and lobster - and the menu includes some wonderful offerings from the '50's era . Our server was so kind, solicitous, and knowledgeable about the menu and the history of The Top. What a Columbus gem!
The Top is a special place for dining. First of all when you enter The Top, you are stepping back in time to that era reminiscent of Sinatra and the boys. The booths are cozy, the atmosphere is "cool" and the Martinis are flowing. The steaks are classic and excellent. All the sides and salads and appetizers you'd expect. But then there's the piano bar. If your lucky, you grab a spot at the piano bar and you are pleasantly entertained with all your favorites. Love The Top
Great food as always. Service was terrific. Pricey so it's a special occasion type thing but very good.
Best Steak in Columbus hands down. Try the Thick Cut Bacon with Granny Smith Slaw Appetizer, its my favorite. Great Service as always. Never disapponted.
There is a close atmosphere here because of space, and unfortunately we had some very loud parties near us and the more they drank, the less we wanted to be in the area. The food and service was as expected: good! I would go again, but be aware that there is not a lot of space and you will not have a "private" affair on the weekend as it is usually very busy because the food is good.
Food was excellent. Prime rib done perfectly. Baked potato and garlic green beans great. My friends and I had a good dinner in a nice restaurant. Staff very friendly and attentive.
Cool leap back in time with great food
Our favorite spot for a special meal. A mid-century gem. Still the best after 6o years.
The food and the service were excellent and we enjoyed the piano bar after we ate.
The best restaurant in Columbus, hands down. If you want to impress someone, this is it!
Nice atmosphere for adult dining experience
Good wine list
Only disappointment was that my strip steak was overlooked -- requested medium rare and it was served medium well (not even close)
To their credit they returned the correctly cooked steak promptly
Great prime rib if you like it on the rare side. (Although I've had what I ordered at Longhorn that was every bit as good for CONSIDERABLY less money). My wife ordered "medium well" and I asked for "as rare as you have." Mine was just fine while hers was almost as rare as mine. Definitely undercooked! Fantastic salads. Tables are on top of one another; felt like the person at the table next top me was sitting on my lap. Pleasant piano music (even though the piano clearly needed some tuning and repair).
We have dined at The Top since our dating days in the 1960's. Despite change in owners, the right owners have stepped forward and continue to make this restaurant a very special dining experience. With Denver in the kitchen and Jeanne in the dining area, this magnificent couple makes each dining experience delectable. The servers are professional experts, knowing how to graciously meet every need of the diners.
Very good- a dining experience and not just a meal. This is a time consuming event. Lots of details. Older building with old 50s look and even a pianist and singer. It's the type of meal to take your time and enjoy.
I had the filet cooked rare and it had amazing texture. My boyfriend had the rib eye and he loved it as well. The bread served at the beginning is great too. Creamy butter with a salty crust.
Emily Teresa John and the entire team just make it happen.
Jeanne has a great brand. Great food, music, perfect old school.
All other food makes me sad after the ribeye we had. Oh wow was it delicious and perfectly prepared. I think it's a law you have to get the delicious, garlicky escargot.
Friendly (if inexperienced) service, good timing. Wonky table by the fireplace and kitchen wasn't my favorite.
The prime rib was just OK not good not real bad. I do not think that I will come back here for a meal. I need to find a great steak and prime rib restaurant in Columbus, this was not it.
I was very underwhelmed. Went on the advice of a friend, but it didn't meet the expectations.
My first time at the Top and while the food was incredible, the service was incredibly lacking. I paid in cash and was not given my change until I asked for it, then was given $20 less in change by the server. This $20 was to serve as part of the tip. The server said the payment switched hands 4 times so he didn't know what happened to the $20!! What?! I'll stick to excellent service and matching food at Hyde Park and Mitchell's.
Have heard for many years about The Top Steak House. It was as good or better than described. More food than we knew what to do with, great drinks and good service. The only negative for us (and I wear hearing aids) was the noise level, but on a scale of 10, it is a 9.5 and only not a ten because of noise. Fantastic food.
No review, meal was outstanding. Very crowded, cramped, tight seating.
The drinks were great. The steaks were perfect. Our server was outstanding. The Top is tops.
Loved the atmosphere. The service was wonderful. The food was sub par due to both the filet and lobster being chewy. Filet was undercooked and lobster was overcooked. Hopefully this was just an off night for the chef because so many people rave about the food! We will give it another shot some day down the road.
Great atmosphere, food, and service. Highly recommended!
Had a wonderful meal with good friends. The service we received from Kaki was amazing. The food was tasty and you have to experience the baked potatoes to believe it.
We loved the Top Steakhouse. Had not been for many years. Wanted to dine with friends, and thought the Top might still be the best steak house in town. Saw Matt Munhall plays piano on Wednesdays, and we really love his music. It was a perfect night. No changes have been made, so it is a real step back in time. No chain restaurant here. The best steak I have ever had, and the prime rib was the best partner has ever had. Well worth a visit. Very dark inside, takes a minute for your eyes to adjust.
Very disappointed in our experience. I had onion rings which were cool and lacked flavor. My steak was a rib eye and was VERY fatty. The mushrooms were very salty. The bill with the tip was $170. I could of had an equal experience at Texas Roadhouse for $60.
Server was attentive when he stopped by but had lots of tables. As a single woman dining alone, I felt like I wasn't a priority - 20 minutes before I saw him the first time, way too much time to get my wine & each course. Steak was good but a bit overcooked. This was very different from my visit with a group and with what I saw at other table groups. But I don't totally blame my server. I think lots of kitchens time things for groups, not singles.
Every bite, every sip, was delicious. Terrific experience.
Service was ok..... after we asked about the Pre Fix special she seemed less interested in us. She didn't mention this special to us or anyone around us either.
Also a couple came in halfway through our dinner an they reeked of smoke which didn't add to the experience.
This place is amazing! The food, the venue, the drinks, the staff...I've NEVER been disappointed. I love the live piano as well. ❤
