The Tobacco Company Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We had dinner on July 6, 2017. We were visiting from Florida and were staying at the Jefferson Hotel. We had the filet and fried yellow tomato appetizer. The service was very attentive and the steaks were cooked as ordered. Loved the ambiance and casual atmosphere as well as the music from the bar area. Fully enjoyed.
The Tobacco Co. is a wonderful restaurant to meet your eating needs. Great food, great service with an beautiful ambiance. We there for our 36th wedding anniversary. We were looking for a place that would make this occasion special. The Tobacco Co. really made the grade. We were treated as if we were royalty. And definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone that wants a special place to eat with great food.
Fantastic experience, we were seated early for 6:00 reservation and we had the 3rd floor to ourselves for awhile. Really enjoyed the old architecture and server made us feel very comfortable and welcome. Ordered end cut Primerib and scallop special to share as DIY surf and turf. Both were done perfect and we're tasty, with plenty to bring home in a doggy bag. Celebrated 50th wedding anniversary and we're treated to a nice chocolate cheesecake with candle to share, a very nice finishing touch.
Charming interior and excellent food. I was staying at the Marriott and wanted to get together with local friends at a place close to the hotel. Based on reviews, I decided to give it a try. Couldn't have been more delighted! All three of us had prime rib and raved about it being some of the best we've ever had. Friendly, timely service without being rushed and tasty drinks. Loved it so much I came back two days later for lunch and had a fantastic salad. Next time I'm in Richmond, I will make a point of going back.
Found on Hotel list of restaurants. Really well prepared food, waiters knowledgeable and helpful. Allowed for customized orders . Desserts are outstanding including Butter Cake. We intend to include this as we travel across the Eastern route North and South. Went back for lunch. Just right portions and well chosen variety. Even left my Boy Scout adult hat. They found it and saved it.
This is the second time we've eaten here when passing through Richmond on our way further South. It is, with out a doubt, one of the best places to eat anywhere. Great service, food and atmosphere. Highly recommend this restaurant. We had the melt in your mouth prime rib and the meatloaf (believe it or not). The key lime pie is some of the best you'll find. My sister in-law had the airy and light cheese cake. The wine list is more than adequate.
This was a our family first and last horrible experience. We brought our daughter to the Tobacco Company for her birthday. The waiter Henry was hard of hearing which is not preventable. However this restaurant is situated inside of a nightclub with a band therefore the ambience was loud. My husband and I both ordered sirloin. He asked for well-done. And his steak was oozing with blood. I requested medium well. My steak appeared to be medium rare. That ruined our meal as we had to wait for our meal to be re-cooked. At this point only part of our party is eating their food. The manager came over to our table to apologize about our improper steaks. Once we received our steaks the second time around the baked potatoes were cold and stiff.
Our tab came up to $243.00 dollars. We have eaten dinner at Apple Bees before and the steak and food was served to delight! We have enjoyed eating at Ruth's Chris Steak House and their steak melted in our mouths. The chef should have proper training in steak requests.
Tobacco Company has great music. However the food we ordered was served extremely poor to taste. Apparently the chef was inexperienced and lacked proper steak technique and training.
Our server was not good for a restaurant of this caliber. After spilling the entire shaker of crushed pepper on our table and in our laps, he didn't apologize or offer us a new table. Our side dishes were not correct. He came by once to ask us how everything was but turned and walked away before we could reply. He didn't offer dessert at all. It was the worst experience I've ever had at a nice restaurant.
We were seated at our reservation time, after enjoying a cocktail at the bar. Waiters appeared at our table immediately and our main waiter was friendly, professional and very good at his job. We had wonderful food, a steak and a seafood dish. The experience was exceptional, as is always the case.
We got there a little bit early since we had come straight from the Altria Theater, so we had a drink in the bar. The server was very attentive. Our server upstairs in the dining room was great. The wine choice we made was a good value. We had the calamari appetizer which was very good. I had the grilled ahi tuna for dinner which was great but I was not a fan, at all, of the side dishes. The beet salad had too much ginger and I didn't care at all for the seaweed side dish. My husband had a steak and potatoes, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Overall, it was a good meal but not especially memorable.
We called for a reservation 3 days before arriving at the Restaurant. We requested a table by the railing on the 2nd or 3rd floor. We received a table by the railing but was the least desirable as the location is beside the entrance/exit for the waiters. There were constant wait staff traveling by us or standing by the doorway only a few feet from our table. It seems to me when a customer takes time out to make a reservation 3 days in advance they should have the benefit of a better seating arrangement than customers arriving with no reservation.
For nearly 4 decades The Tobacco Co has been one of the best restaurants in .Richmond. Food is always outstanding and service is usually excellent. But music is too loud -always. (And not very good). Also, it's a place where business folks come on expense acts. Good for the restaurant but you're likely to be 'entertained' by a table of blow-hard salesmen talking about how great they are. Order an extra drink and the apple pie with ice cream. You'll enjoy both.
This is an excellent restaurant! The building is one of a kind and decorated beautifully. Many of the tables for two give a view of the open center of the building. There is an elevator but use caution if someone is mobility challenged as there are places to step up or down if headed to the restroom. The speciality, Prime Rib,bthe best I have tasted, melted in our mouths and not too much fatty waste! The crab cakes atop fried yellow tomatoes were also very good.
Parking on the street is limited but we used a public parking garage a block away. This is a great place for a date or special occasion at dinner. It is pricy but you are paying for the atmosphere and excellent service as well as delicious food.
