Our visit did not get off to a good start, as our table wasn't ready and the host did not make eye contact or attempt to explain what was going on. Eventually it came out that they were trying to make sure we got a window table with a great view. We appreciated the effort and the view, and only wish the host had been upfront about the situation. We ordered from the small plates menu and the food, especially the gnocchi and roasted cauliflower, was fantastic: flavorful, filling and modestly priced.
Amazing views and atmosphere. Great service. We stayed and enjoyed the live music while sitting next to a stunning fireplace. It was a perfect evening.
We had a great time for a birthday dinner. The view, atmosphere, and service were fantastic. I would have given the food 5 stars but we ordered the steaks and they were all a bit undercooked and tough. Everything else was wonderful.
A date night with my wife of almost 54 years! We have been to the restaurant many times before.
View is priceless, beautiful dining area. Service was below par, had to ask for everything. Meals arrived shortly after appetizers as if you were being rushed. Drinks were never refilled nor was our table of five followed up with.
The Cliff House is quite the resort. A massive structure sitting right on the ocean cliffs with wonderful views from all the rooms and the restaurant. Tillers is modern with a beautiful decor. Giant windows provide a total view of the cliffs and the ocean. Foods is pretty damn good as well.
The view was spectacular, the service impeccable, and the food delicious. A lovely afternoon
My mother and I celebrated Mother's Day early and had a great time!
The view is stunning and the decor is beautiful. Our waiter was very nice, but he seemed to be stretched thin and service was slow. We were disappointed that they do not serve brunch—only breakfast until Noon or lunch after Noon. However, our dishes were tasty and I would definitely come back.
Great food, service, and amazing cliff side ocean views
Good food and service, but very expensive. The view of the ocean is wonderful.
The atmosphere is elegant yet casual. Both my husband and I had the Hangar steak special and can honestly say it was the best steak we’ve ever had.
Lovely setting, great food. Manager was very personable and helpful.
To begin with the view is incredibly beautiful, sitting by the window overlooking the ocean made our experience just perfect. Lunched with friends we haven’t seen in a while and so we had a lot to catch up on,travel, kids etc. our server was so welcoming and gave us as much time as we needed. Our drinks came promptly and we ordered our meals. I had grain salad with chicken which was quite good, burger, lobster role rounded out the table. We were all pleased with our meals. We continued to sit and chat over coffee and all were so gracious even when they began setting up for the dinner crowd.
Sorry, but it was on off-night for the Tiller. I requested ahead of time to make it special for my wife's birthday ( a milestone birthday). I asked for a table overlooking the ocean. We got a
Table on the window, split by a large SECTION of wall, preventing a clear view of the ocean. Not a biggie. It was strange, as if our table was the only one not assigned to a wait-person. The receptionist took our initial orders, and was occasionally nowhere to be found. There are probably 6-8 at the most main entrees on the menu, and I ordered the Lobster Pasta. A few minutes after ordering, I'm told they're all out of this entree. I ask, "are you out of lobster"? They say no. So I ask, "are you out of pasta"?, they respond "no". I don't get it, this is a cook to order restaurant. Oh well, I change my order to short ribs, which were very good. Dinner's over, and we tell the receptionist we'd like to see the dessert menu, which she gives to us, then disappears for literally 20 minutes. At this point , my wife decides to go up and figure out who's supposed to be waiting on us, and we're finally
Able to place our dessert and drink requests.
So much for a special night celebrating my wife's birthday. I don't blame the wait staff at all. I blame management for not having clear table assignments.
Maybe we'll give Tiller another chance some day.
My husband and I stayed at Cliff House over the long Patriots Day weekend. We decided to have dinner at The Tiller Restaurant based on the reviews which we've read. Overall, service was good but I was a little irritated that we had to request for bread after a long wait when all the other tables received their bread platters without being asked. Diners who were seated after us received their bread automatically. Our bread platter finally arrived after our entrees were served.
My husband and I had mixed reviews about the food. He ordered the roast chicken and had expected the skin to be a little roasted/crispy. It was rubbery and looked like skin from a steamed chicken. I had the scallops which came with lobster fried rice which was amazing!!
For dessert, we ordered the souffle and the ice cream sandwich. The souffle was delicious, but the ice cream sandwich was not. The cookies were hard and thick. it was difficult to eat and we ended up just eating the ice-cream filling.
I would go back again if we were staying at Cliff House - for the convenience.
My husband and I ate here 2 nights while staying at the Cliff House. The dinners were delicious with interesting flavor combinations. The bread was warm and the butter accompanying it delightful. I had the scallops with lobster fried rice the first night and the sirloin strip the second night. The scallops was a wonderful dish - interesting flavors and well cooked. The scallops melted like butter. The sirloin was excellent as well - there was just too much of it for me. It was a great comfort meal - mashed potatoes, asparagus and steak! We also had gin and tonics; the server suggested the local gin which was an great idea. The local gin (can't remember the name) had a slightly different flavor from traditional gins. The desserts - chocolate souffle and ice cream sandwich - were yummy too. The servers where very personable and attentive.
The only downside were the small (noisy) children dining as well. However, it is a family resort so it can't be helped.
From the point of making reservations, our experience was exceptional. I have ALS and the accommodations for my needs were met. A very heart wrenching thanks to Jeff and the rest of the crew for a memorable time. The toe "tickling" crab cakes are the best!!!
Despite the lousy weather outside the view and hospitality were well worth the drive. The soufflé was delightful and the drinks and monkey bread were delicious. The wait staff was attentive but not intrusive. The decor was warm and inviting despite the storm outside.
Dining at the Tiller restaurant was an amazing experience. The food was fresh, the view was heavenly and our waiters were more than accommodating. We dined twice for lunch and dinner. I loved the seafood Cobb salad. It was delicious and a great portion. My husband had the strip steak which was juicy and flavorful as well as their burger. The ambience was modern but understated with incredible views of the ocean. Will definitely go again....
The Tiller restaurant had exceptional views and food that was good, but not particularly memory worthy. The high top free standing seats seemed sized for extremely tall people. If I was any shorter, and I'm 5'9" my legs would not be able to dangle over the top. The fireplace and other new upgrades made for a very romantic and comfortable setting. The menu was limited and greater choices would be desirable. If you are staying there it is worth dining once to experience the view and dramatic atmosphere. For foodies, there are other places that I would recommend venturing out for in the area.
Great spot for Oceanside dining. First time here and it did not disappoint. Food was yummy, service was prompt and friendly. Allergy modification was easily accommodated. The view was gorgeous. A bit pricey for the food, but was worth it for the venue!
Amazing food. Able to actually talk because noise was not an issue. Waiter was lovely.
The Tiller Restaurant is tops on our list of places to dine. While the food and beautifully designed interior are exceptional,
the view of the waves crashing on the rocks below is unlike any other dining experience in Maine or even New England.
It's become our favorite place to bring friends and out-of-town guests because of it's unique location right on the ocean cliffs.
Also the menu is the perfect blend of foodie-inspired dishes in addition to comfort food items so it has something for everyone.
We feel fortunate to live less than a half-hour away from such a wonderful venue.
Beautiful place with amazing view! Food and service were great.
Had a lovely Saturday lunch with friends. The view is to die for of course! The whole experience was great. The food was good our server was pleasant. (he did his best to up-sale) which was fine. Looking forward to my next visit and have already recommended the hotel to friends and family.
You can't beat the view! The aranchini and grain salad were a delicious start to the meal. I got the roasted chicken and my husband the steak, which we both enjoyed!
Beautiful views off Bald Head Cliff. Outstanding service. Fantastic items on and off menu. While expensive in the main dining area, well worth it. Bar menu high table seating is also an option and more moderately priced.
Had breakfast at the Tiller, food was marginal. Waffles & bacon cold & overdone.
The most spectacular views and ambiance but the food is definitely below par and not worth the money. There are lots of great places in Ogunquit to eat and this isn’t one of them. Go there for a drink and enjoy the beautiful setting but don’t waste your money on the food.
First, the view is SPECTACULAR. The food is good also. I had the lobster corn chowder for start. It was a thinner stock than I expected, but it was chocked full of lobster, corn, potatoes. (Check out the photo). Sip on a glass of wine, which is reasonably priced, considering the awesome view. For an entree, I had a great pulled pork pannini which was so large that I took half home. Did I mention the view? (see photo)
Please note that we were there in February. This is more of a summer destination. I think they are short staffed and perhaps some are inexperienced. The location is great and they do have good choices for "tastes", medium size options and true dinner choices. They use local foods when they can. Good size pours on the Prosecco. The view out the big windows, even at night, was mesmerizing. If you're in a hurry I wouldn't suggest this place but if you are up for a relaxing meal in a gorgeous place - you won't be disappointed.
I would recommend eating here if you are staying at the Cliff House since it is part of the resort. This place could easily be a 5 star restaurant if they upped their game on the service and consistency with the food. The atmosphere is fun and the drinks are great.
The food was just ok. Ordered filet mignon and it was served barely luke warm. Manager was very attentive and got us new meals, which was good service. In the end, meals was just ok. But the chocolate souffle was amazing!! Service was very good.
Great food. Great music. Great drinks but very poor service from the waitress :(
Absolutely loved the view.. and the new design is beautiful. The food actually is quite delicious even for a vegetarian. Highly recommend going here.
Every year we take my parents for a post-Christmas dinner as part of their present. This year, my father recommended the Cliff House. I wouldn't have thought to choose it, but I'm so glad he did! Our food was delicious, the service was friendly and "just right", not overbearing or over-interrupting. The appetizer selection and medium plates were so delectable that we all made our meals of them! We had the Fall Arancini, the Roasted Turmeric Cauliflower, Surf and Turf Steamed Buns, Parsnip Soup and the Gnocchi. It was wonderful to share the savory delights. And the desserts were just as wonderful. My husband and dad had the "Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich" which was so good that I ate half. My mother and I had the chocolate souffle which were perfectly executed. We are looking forward to going back for Brunch soon so we can see more of the amazing ocean cliff view in the daylight!
Wonderful food. Lobster chowder and lobster pasta were amazing!!!
Wonderful staff—the daytime hostess, Eric at night and all of the wait staff are fantastic. The food from breakfast, lunch and dinner were amazing. Varied, unique and delicious!!
Awesome, awesome, awesome!
