My husband and I can here for a getaway from Boston very nice restaurant with beautiful views! The servers need to have knowledge of their wines. The morning breakfast was painful the wait was 25 mins and it was quiet. Dinner service was much better!
We have visited The Tiller on two previous occasions. The setting is beautiful and this time we chose to go as part of Maine Restaurant Week. The Restaurant Week menu included a salad, an entrée and dessert. Unfortunately our experience was mediocre at best. We ordered beverages to start and they didn’t arrive until after the salad and after another request to the staff. The salad itself took 20 minutes to appear. We both ordered salmon, which was tender but the vegetables on the plate were cold and inedible. These arrived an hour into the time we had arrived. All in all, a meal with little preparation time took two hours, most of it waiting for the next course. Our server was very nice but two hours for a very pedestrian meal is not acceptable. Despite the beauty of the setting, with such slow service and only mediocre food, we will not be returning.
Went to Tiller House at Cliff House this past weekend, and couldn't have been more disappointed. Everything from the hostess who sat us late, to the bartender with the bad attitude (so rare!), to the waitress- it was truly awful. The sad part is that we were here last year, and it was wonderful. Was there a recent change of management??
The ambience is just gorgeous, but the service and food were severely lacking. I ordered the lobster mac 'n cheese, and it came out lukewarm at best, and tasted as if it had been in the fridge for a few days (maybe more). I ordered a cocktail, and it took about 30 minutes after having to ask our waitress twice for it (and, no apology when it finally came, and she just looked at us blankly). Mind you, it was a very quiet evening in the restaurant, so it's not like she was managing many tables. My husband ordered a steak, and there were huge amounts of fat left on the cut of meat. He said it tasted, ok, but just not what you'd expect at the Cliffhouse. The food and service simply did not live up to the venue. Disappointing dining experience overall.
The view of the Atlantic Ocean was stunning. The food on the other hand was rather mediocre.
It was a bit louder than I remember it from last year but enjoyed it nonetheless.
This restaurant was very overpriced for the meal we received, it was just ordinary. Would not recommend.
I love the Cliff House and this is my second stay here.
Tiller's Restaurant never disappoints and I am thrilled that I have had the same table each visit which is a prime view table for one ‼️
The food is always delicious today I came for the brunch and tonight I have a table booked again ‼️
Vue incroyable sur la mer (demandez une table près de la fenêtre). Prix un peu élevé mais en ligne avec la qualité de l’endroit. Cuisson de mes œufs à parfaire!
The restaurant itself has a beautiful view. This was our second time there and we weren’t impressed. The food was just ok, salmon was very dry. I didn’t eat more than a few bites and the waitress never asked how it was or why I didn’t eat more. Waitress was pretty aloof the whole meal. Wouldn’t go back to the cliff house because of this experience, given that it is the only fine dining Restauant.
Voyage en famille
We dined at the Tiller restaurant twice during our recent stay at the Cliff House. We enjoyed a very nice dinner with the perfect seat by the fire place. The food was very enjoyable. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Service a little slow - but they were completely full and thankfully we had the luxury of time that evening so it wasn't a problem for us at all. We returned for brunch on Sunday and it was just as good, if not better. The seafood cobb salad was particularly outstanding. Coffee was great and our mugs never less than half full. We would absolutely recommend the Tiller Restaurant, whether or not you're staying at the Cliff House and we look forward to returning some time!
The view of the ocean from our table against the window was spectacular. Unfortunately the cold draft from the ventilation system detracted from the ambiance , so much so that we had to move our table. Food was average at best. Steak tartare tasted not fresh. Caesar salad bland. Sirloin steak had no flavor, not juicy at all. Whoopi pie for dessert very dry and a bit stale and dollop of ice cream for additional $4 was insulting.
Absolute perfection. Mr. Carmichael & server
saw to our every need. Fabulous meal & atmosphere. Planning a return visit very soon.
We visited The Tiller for my sister's 40th birthday. Food and service were great and they even brought over a delicious piece of cake (without anyone asking) at the end for her.
Great food, views and service!
The Tiller Restaurant has become my new favorite place to celebrate birthdays and special occasions ... it has outstanding views, wonderful food and great ambiance. I plan on returning more and more ...
We had Markie as our server and she was an absolute doll! Super friendly and always accommodating. Next to the view she impressed me the most about this place. The food was very good but for the prices and portion size the taste should have been truly outstanding. The cauliflower soup was good but had a spice I could not identify and tasted a little strange. The beet salad was fantastic. I had a quinoa bowl and most of the veggies in it were broccoli and cauliflower, mostly the stalks unfortunately. It was just meh. My fiancé had the gnocchi and it tasted amazing. The portion was really tiny though. For dessert we had the sticky toffee cake and they had written happy anniversary on it in chocolate. That was such a nice touch! The Whoopie pies were sadly a little stale. The view and cleanliness of this place can not be beat. Truly loved the vibe and the service.
The view during daylight is outstanding. The service was excellent. My burger and sweet potato fries were among the best I’ve ever had. My husband loved his lobster roll.
My wife and I were guests at the Cliff House and we found the restaurant to be easily accessible.
It’s a beautiful breakfast spot. We ordered waffles which were fine though not hot. The extra 3.00 for berries was for 9 berries-more than half of which were blueberries. The other four were 3 raspberries and one blackberry. The side of bacon was delicious. My daughters Eggs Benedict was good but the hollandaise resembled a mayonnaise consistency...not really a sauce.
We’ve been there before and had better luck with the food. Though the view is hard to beat.
The service and ambiance at table (near a fireplace) was wonderful. However, the food was really disappointing. My sweet potato gnocchi was without flavor and my husbands seafood was not fresh, tasted mass produced or rewarmed. We were expecting more from the price tag or the restaurant and our stay.
The drinks were great!
The food was delicious with very sizable portions. The scenery is breathtaking so even if you don't indulge in a meal you should make a trip just for a drink and take in all of the beautiful views both in and outside of the Cliff House. On this night there was live music just outside the restaurant which added to the ambiance!
The Cliff House is absolutely gorgeous and it was such a relaxing place to be. The drinks were great and the food was so delicious. We got the steak, brussels sprouts, and lobster rice. I would highly recommend spending time at the Cliff House and eating at The Tiller Restaurant.
Brunch at the Tiller House was fabulous.
The view and overall ambience at this restaurant is great but it takes so long to get our meals whenever we stay at the Cliff House. The management should be better prepared knowing it is a holiday weekend / vacation week.
Overall very friendly staff. Food was good. The atmosphere was pleasant as they had live music playing. I feel the cliff house is a great get away and definitely family oriented.
Fantastic food, fantastic service, fantastic place. Everything about this experience made for a very romantic and wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner.
Excellent dinner at the Tiller. Food was fabulous-short ribs and roasted veggies for my partner and lobster chowder and oysters for me. Service was top notch-thank you Kayla! Drinks were well made and hefty.
Fresh bread with oil and balsamic to start, blueberry panna cotta to finish. View is fantastic, ambience is wonderful. Only drawback is the price.
The Tiller Restaurant has some very good meals with a great Service staff. We liked the atmosphere and dinning experience. My one complaint would be we ordered the steak on the menu Medium Rare and it came out rare, when this was brought to the manager attention it was an act of congress to have her recognize the mistake and took up 15 minutes of our dining experience. I do not complain often when going out to eat but when you are paying top dollar you should be serviced to when the meal is incorrect not argued with.
Great service, great ambiance, but the food wasn’t anything to rave about. The lobster chowder was good, but I’ve had better clam chowders and lobster bisque. It’s weird that the steak was already pre-cut and for that price that chewy. The whipped potatoes were so salty you couldn’t even eat them! Same thing the next morning on the potatoes- too much salt! For the money we spent I would’ve rather been at Capitol Grille. Maybe we had the off season chef?
The atmosphere and views were lovely. The food was very good. We had just finished paying and our last guest was finishing her drink, when we were asked by the Hostess to please finish up as there was another group who wanted our table (there were other options available) and that they had been "patiently waiting for over 20 minutes." We were not lingering for an abnormal amount of time and our total meal time was about 70 minutes. I found it extremely rude how the hostess broached the topic with us making it seem like our fault when really it was on the front of house for not managing their tables/parties better.
Had to wait 10 minutes for table to be set even though we had a reservation and, since it was off season, the restaurant was nearly empty. This rubbed me the wrong way. Waited for server, who did bring water but offered nothing else. Waited to order, waited for drinks, waited for bread. Our server was preoccupied with another 2top that was chatting her up and occupying all her tine. She even toasted and had some champagne with them while we waited for a piece of bread. Salads good, soup tasty, meals and dessert were ok, chicken dry and short ribs very fatty.
Went back the next day for brunch where we had excellent service and excellent meals 1 for 2 !
The view is great, the service is great, the food is not great. Therefore, go for the view and service, not the food.
Brunch menu is great. Cocktails were lovely. One in our party had the quinoa bowl, which was beautiful to look at but way to salty
Hotel is beautiful. Horrible food. Horrible service in restaurant. I would not spend $ to eat in this restaurant again. It’s really too bad because a location so spectacular should have up to par food.
The menu options were very appealing but the execution was flawed. We had the seafood bouillabaisse that was advertised with a saffron broth. The seafood and vegetables were cooked perfectly but the broth had no flavor, including no saffron flavor. The bread served to the table tasted like it was days old. There are easy fixes for both issues with better quality control.
The Tiller was a great location for us to have a business lunch. The views are incredible and the food and service matched. Specials were very good and the purify juice was very fresh.
Love the view and food. They ate busy with a great out of town vibe, but always seat promptly with a reservation.
The view of the raging sea is amazing and beautiful.
Would never eat here again when visiting the Cliff House Hotel. The food was over priced and the chef was not very accommodating. For example, I asked to switch my side with another side that came with another entree and they would not do it. Portion were very small.
