Great food had ( two mains ) the burger and mussels were delicious.
Service was efficient and very friendly. Ambience was quiet and being the day before lockdown was as expected a bit sullen or maybe that was just us! Our last meal before hunkering down for the month. We are glad we went and will go back and back.
Fabulous service, good food, although chicken supreme at £17 we felt was overpriced
The belly pork was really tasty. Could have done with a larger portion of pork but the taste made up for the lack of size. Compliments to the chef.
Great food! Lovely people
Very crowded dining area which meant tables too close and very hot without air flow. Food was ok but not as expected standard. Service slow and not with a smile! Waited over 40 minutes for pudding while seeing other tables served theirs who had clearly ordered after us. Gave up on pudding in the end. Excuse was they were busy. Would not go again.
Food was lovely and the manager was so nice and attentive. The starters were a bit cold. But other than that perfect! Thank you very much
This is one of our favourite local pubs for food. There's always a warm welcome and we love the food. The service is friendly and attentive and they create a lovely relaxing atmosphere.
Friends fish & Chip main had to be sent back due to an awful smell! Thankfully she didn’t get food poising and they took it off the bill.
We are local to the Tickled Trout and wanted to try it for the first time having seen mixed reviews online. So, the food was very good as was the service. What this venue lacks is atmosphere. It has a bit of a 'canteen' feel to it in the main dining room. I firmly believe this is all down to the lighting. Lighting changes the whole ambiance to a venue. The spotlights are far too over the top making the room too bright. In fact, I was sitting facing one and was nearly blinded by it! We asked the waitress to dim the lights which she kindly did but they could have been turned down a lot more. More lamp, less light! The music is also lacking. Music and lighting are a winning combination. Not loud music, something suited to the environment and clientele (mainly couples on a Friday night). So nearly there! Just a few tweaks and it will be a great venue.
We had a lovely meal. The staff were very attentive and the food was amazing.
Pleasant welcome and the right level of attention from the team. cosy dining room, food was tasty, well presented and delivered in a reasonable time.
Would happily return.
Great food in a well appointed comfortable pub, served by cheerful, professional staff. Thank you.
The T Bone steak was very thin. It was more like a minute steak rather than a T Bone standard. The hake was a bit dry & seemed to have been standing for a while before being served. They also forgot vegetables initially so there was a time lapse between the main and this side.
Booked at early table for 6.30pm and would have preferred a table not opposite the kitchen door.
The food was very good I enjoyed the pie and mash. The fruit crumble was very very hot and it seemed a shame to have to sit and look at it for 10 minutes while it cooled down. Staff very efficient and felt safe, would recommend and go again but maybe a different pudding.
The Tickled Trout is a very quaint English Pub, plenty of parking at the rear, tables are spaced out conforming to Covid 19, friendly staff and great food. Remember your mask.
The service at this venue was not as good as the last time I visited. The table for four was too small and we were sitting on top of one another. The service was poor, I had more coffee in my saucer than in the cup. Food very moderate for choice.
Not a good experience. Booked an evening meal here. Arrived to being the only diners in the restaurant at 7pm, was this an omen! It started with being given the wrong menu, a lunch time menu which was different to the eve menu. My partner ordered vegetable soup off the specials board, when it came it looked nothing like a veg soup, it was also inedible, so overly spiced and peppery that she repeatedly coughed and needed a drink to rinse her mouth, so politely told the waitress and suggested the chef should be informed. Enquired what chef had to say. Was informed previous customers had complained about it too and that it would be removed from the menu. Three requests for water, eventually we got some. Main courses were plainly average. We weren't charged for the soup, thankfully.
On leaving the restaurant, noticed the special board had been changed to Spicy Lentil soup! So after being told it would be removed from the menu it had now magically morphed into Spicy Lentil soup. I pity the next customer who orders it.
The whole experience of wrong menu, inedible soup, average mains, management of the specials board, leaves a nasty taste that makes the decision of frequenting this restaurant again an easy decision to make!
First time back to The Tickled Trout since it changed hands some years ago.
My wife and went for lunch on a Tuesday.
All covid friendly on arrival. Got choice of table as was quiet.
Cider sauce with the mussels starter was just awesome. Better than the more traditional white wine sauce in my opinion. Really flavoursome and rich. Could have quite easily mopped it up with a whole loaf of crusty bread!!!!
Main of chicken, leek and ham pie with mash and veg was equally awesome. Amazing sauce and pastry. Veg was beautifully cooked.
Noticed that they are dog-friendly and have a great outdoor kids play area, so we will definitely be going back with the family!
Hush Heath are doing a great job.
Greeting was haphazard and we felt like an inconvenience, we were shoved round a corner and ignored, no menus or drinks for a good 15 mins. The cauliflower cheese was missed off both roasts but it was brought when asked. The guy who served us was very pleasant and we understand these are difficult times. Food was very good but we have decided to go elsewhere next time as the service issue and being in a dull corner really did put a downer on things. Not at all the experience I had the previous visit so a shame.
Good food and good service . A lovely evening. Overall quiz satisfied
Very nise pub always like the food every time we have been there the food has always been very good.. would recommend definitely
We haven’t been to the Tickled Trout for a long time. Booked a table for our friends birthday. They still say it’s a seafood restaurant only to find the 2 starters with seafood they had runout !Mussels and King Prawns. The main seafood was mussels and sole which they also had runout! Settled
For battered cod. They also runout of Apple Crumble. Not a good service to be truthful...... use to such a lovely restaurant
Great starter poor roast. Worse I’ve had was rank! Everyone around me said the same. Sorry. Your staff are good and nice place.
Really great Sunday roast and good wine. Excellent value for 2 or 3 courses. Nice restaurant area and lovely large gardens.
We stayed for two nights in the hotel, the room was very good and the bed was comfortable. The food was absolutely outstanding and the service was good although a complication with the OpenTable booking system meant they were over booked and this put a lot of pressure on the staff. In the current COVID-19 situation we felt very safe and the staff have implemented excellent safety measures. We fully intend to visit again under better circumstances.
Absolutely loved it. Good was great and staff were lovely and attentive. Covid rules followed. Great atmosphere. Such a pretty pub.
Lovely fresh, homely food, as always. Put a smile ok my partners face which is just what she needed. Thank you for a great roast.
Welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious and service excellent.
Had a very nice Monday evening dinner - good COVID precautions, good service and a great burger! Highly recommended
Was disappointed with the service even with making allowances for Covid the food was ok but our main courses were just warm we won’t be going back unfortunately
Lovely pub. . Well worth the visit
We appreciate these are difficult times but we feel that service and food could be improved . On arrival we were told no steak or bread which we found strange as there was only one type of steak on the menu. We did wait a long time for someone to take our desert menu order and drinks order. My husband ordered tiger prawns and prawns came out but we're not tiger prawns we feel we should have been notified this was the case and my husband said if he had known he would have ordered another starter.
Just little things I know but just needs a bit of tweaking to make this place really good.
Great food. Service slightly slow but waitresses could not have been more attentive!.
Easy to book for midweek lunchtime. had to manually sign track and trace. Friendly staff, great meal, nice quiet pub restaurant. Would recommend
We had a lovely time! Can recommend the cheese burger & 1/2 chicken roast!
Been a while since we been there but on return found the menu pared down to the bone (pun intended). Of that single-page menu, three items were not available. I eat out quite a lot, and rarely write poor reviews, but this evening needed comment. The place was very clean, quiet and we want to encourage business at any restaurant in these dire times. The waitress said that they had lost some chefs and things would change on Tuesday. I truly hope so. The Tickled Trout used to have a great reputation, but much needs to be done by the management to work on that. The staff were pleasant enough, as couples arrived all you could hear was the litany of things that were not available on the brief menu. The quality of what was served was fine - but not what we set out to eat. If I had checked the menu before we booked, we would not have gone. Mea culpa.
A good quite clean place to visit easy to book online
Restricted menu and two of the six starters we chose were not available at 7 pm ??
The bread basket was a waste of space, the bread was chilled rather than warm,
Main course choice was fish and chips which were ok but not brilliant.
Did not stick around for a dessert.
On the plus side the drought IPA beer was excellent
Lovely location
Nice outdoor seating
Food delicious
Lovely food and service was great. Could do with slightly comfier chairs in the restaurant area but overall a good experience!
