Always reliable and equally good for a date, family group, or old friends getting together.
Lovely restaurant in a beautiful location.
The food was amazing and the service very very good.
Really nice spot in a great area of London, the custard brioche was yummy and the quality of everything we ordered was top notch.
Our hotel was located around the corner and we were so looking forward to dining at this neighborhood gastropub. Upon arrival the first floor bar/pub area was busy, noisy, and everyone looked very happy and to be enjoying themselves. We were seated in the second floor dining room, a lovely space with fireplace that was also quite busy but more subdued. Our waiter seemed somewhat inexperienced, asking for our dinner order before drinks. After taking care of the wine order we started our meal with steak tartare, very average and somewhat tasteless without adding salt and pepper at the table. An average starter led us to subpar entrees, one a bland and tasteless, barely poached (almost inedible) filet of trout, the other a slightly better plate of seared yellowfin tuna chunks. Overall, this was the worst dining experience we had over 8 nights in London. If I return to the area, and I certainly hope I do, I might be tempted to return to the Thomas Cubitt because of its location and ambiance, but would limit myself to ordering from the pub menu and keeping my fingers crossed.
We chose the restaurant for a pre-theatre meal but wished we had time to linger when we saw our table for two in front of the fire in an attractive upstairs room. Service was speedy and attentive. We ate two tasty starters: devon crab with rhubarb and beetroot with a blue cheese mousse. Our main courses were yellow fin tuna with jerusalem artichokes and an outstanding vegetarian (probably vegan) dish of heritage carrots with radicchio, fennel, rum raisins and a blood orange sauce. So plenty of seasonal ingredients, creatively and skillfully handled.
Lovely food and attentive service. A little loud if you want a quieter meal, but a lively atmosphere for a more boisterous quality eating experience. Recommended.
it was a very nice evening except for one thing that spoilt it - we were at a table next to the big window at the back with a howling cold draft and had to keep our coats on all through dinner
Great food and did try and attentive staff
Very nice experience for Sunday lunch. Very good service in the dining room and good value for the standard.
I'm a regular and unfortunately for the time the food was quite disappointing. I had one of the specials (pheasant) which was over cooked and one of my friends had Tuna and that was cold, I'm afraid ... and we wait a lot to be served.
But i'll be back !
Great menu - good selection of food. Very good atmosphere and the staff were very helpful.
This is the second time I have been to this restaurant. I appreciate the quiet ambiance and pleasant service and will return.
The service was good but the food very disappointing. Our entire party had roast lunches and it was cold and some of the vegetables were raw. Overall, very disappointing
Disappointed. We made reservation but downstairs bar is not available though Open Table did not specify. So had to eat upstairs where menu less interesting and pretencious wait staff were neither friendly nor efficient. Very limited choice. Trout arrived cold and we were happy to leave.
Extremely friendly staff
I was impressed about the cook! I am vegetarian and I never had such a delicious vegetarian.meal in a restaurant!
We had a lovely lunch at the Thomas Cubitt, the menu was excellent and the Sunday roast lamb with trimmings we opted for was delicious. The wine menu is very good and not overwhelmingly long and we enjoyed an excellent red. The service is nicely paced and the atmosphere in the upstairs dining room is lovely. Highly recommend!
I went last Sunday for lunch with friends. We sat in the dining room upstairs which was beautifully decorated, the fire place added to that cosy ambience. I had the Salt Marsh Lamb roast and my friend had the Beef Sirloin roast which we thought tasted great! The accompanying vegatables- carrots and parsnips- cooked to the right level of 'al dente'. Yorskhire pudding was enormous. The service was attentive and courteous. A lovely dining experience.
Excellent food, fabulous and attentive service. Enjoyable ambience - have already booked our next meal there
Perfect Sunday lunch with my 2 teenage daughters. Service was really special and attentive. Delicious roast. Would like to come every Sunday!
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner upstairs on Boxing Day. It was mildly sad that no roast was available for the holiday but our dinners were delicious regardless. We had different entrees and appetizers and all were very good. The sticky pudding for dessert was a healthier version than some as it had a lot of pears and very little caramel sauce.
Though the food was good the service was very inconsistent. Two of us had to wait over 40 minutes for our aperitif, and when it finally arrived with our starters we sent them back: too late. We also had to wait to order wine - why not when we ordered the food. The service did improve and the food was tasty but the lack of atmosphere - it can be quite loud upstairs - added to our overall disappointed lunch. I've been before but probably won't again.
Every course was perfectly prepared and presented. Easily some of the best pub food in London.
I met with two work colleagues, and all of us used to live in New York so a lot of catching up. A good place for a catch up. Tables nicely spaced and excellent service. Very enjoyable and will be back soon.
A lovely personal welcome, upstairs in the first floor restaurant. Friendly staff, and we had a really good meal - the cod with sweet potato was divine, other meals looked good too. It was a little slow to get drinks to start with, but it was busy. And noisy! But still a great venue for a get-together with old friends.
The Mallard special was very, very good. Slightly disappointed by dessert. Wine menu expensive but the House red was very good. Eating in the dining room was expensive so probably more of a place for special occasions than everyday dining.
Perfect gastro pub - warm & homely, but food at a high standard
Possibly the most attentive discreet service, exciting food and linen tablecloths.. gets my vote!
We were extremely happy with the food, the service and the ambiance. A really good experience.
Had a wonderful Sunday lunch. Great place to have a lovely meal in a fabulous environment . Can't wait to go back.
The upstairs room was a pleasant surprise, calm and attractive.
Limited option s for vegetarian but what is available is delicious. The best cheese board for dessert!
Great location, good food. Medium priced. Great busy bar down stairs and quiet restaurant upstairs, perfect combination for a get together.
Very nice, not cheap but a great place to spend a lovely diner with someone important to you
A very nice atmosphere and good service and good food.
Small and poorly cooked portions, v disappointing after many good meals at its sister restaurant The Orange. Slow and pretty poor waiter service, though good front of house. No reason to go back in afraid.
Our first evening visit and the food was again good. Nice to get a different ambience to lunch times.
Let's face it, Belgravia is not your typical local area. But making all due allowances, this is a cosy and stylish local restaurant that happens to be above a pub. The menu might at first seem pretty traditional, but is in fact quit innovative, and done with a light touch.
We love this restaurant. It is close by, I love the ambience and the food. The woman who took our order was amazing, remembered everything and food came out perfect. What was strange was when the server served the wine for tasting, he spilled it on the tablecloth and around the base of the glass. He stopped pouring, left the wine glass with just a little wine in it and continued pouring wine for the rest of the table. He apologized, then put the bottle on the table and left. He didn't come back to clean up or place a napkin on the stains. We did that ourselves and wipe the base of the glass and pour more wine in it. Very strange. We waited for him to come back but he attended to other tables and that was it. Very unprofessional and oblivious to the mess he created.
Fab food, great staff...
One of the best roasts in london
We had Saturday lunch, and were seated upstairs in a beautiful room away from the busy bistro downstairs, windows open it was cool. Oysters were superb. 3 x mini-burgers actually very filling. Not very mini. Delicious though, truffle fries were great. My wife had Cod which she loved. We will most certainly go again.
