Service is slow but food is great.
Went for an anniversary lunch/Dinner. The service was amazing and so was the food. This is an awesome place hands down.
Waited over an hour and a half for our food. Did not receive anything complimentary or even a discount on our bill. The place was quiet and was not busy at all so there was no excuse for this.
Fantastic options if you are gluten free, practically the entire menu is safe! They even gave me gluten free bread at the table before dinner!
I really loved the food and service at this restaurant We had a salad and calamari for appetizers and some great cocktails to start off with and then I had fish of the day and my friend had chicken Marsala The food was really delicious great tasting and all I can say it had clean taste to it. We finished our meal with a gluten free dessert pudding with ice cream that honestly I would never had thought was gluten free We will be back again had great experience
Enjoy a late brunch here last weeked. Capable, warm and attentive service. Prices on par with the area. We left satiated and feeling very positive about the experience. Diverse menu. Will definitely return for dinner!
Awesome! This place is the best. The food is always perfect and the staff is incredible.
We had a fantastic time as always. The manager is so attentive and friendly, and our waitress was great.
We will definitely be back soon!
Amazing food and fun spot if you are exploring Astoria!
Amazing food and service! Our server Andrew made sure everything was perfect, as I need to eat gluten free (celiac disease). The choices were amazing and everything we order was so delicious. Will definitely come back to eat here when we are in NYC. Probably one of the best meals we’ve had out in a long time!
My celiac partner got ill after eating. Not sure how efficient/safe (i.e., cross-contamination) is their kitchen for gluten-free options.
Food I asked for chicken tacos and my husband for chicken massala, we waited for our food 45 minutes, and the food came cold, very disappointing. Tacos very tasteless!! I asked for coconut margarita after 20 minutes waiting for my drink they brought me a different drink which was horrible!!!
We showed up pretty late for our reservation but it was fine because they were not busy with it being late at night in a Monday. The servers were so nice and accomodating to our various allergies (gluten, dairy, and nuts collectively) and were able to get us a version of a menu item that usually is not dairy free. Fantastic place, can’t wait to go back.
The food was pretty good but I don’t know that it was worth the price.. I had the fish tacos, $18 for okay/ barely seasoned tacos is a bit much. The biggest issue I had with this place was the wait.. I can honestly say I’ve never experienced something that bad.
I totally get that busy nights happen and sometimes there are new people working; however, this was crazy. Waiting almost an hour for bread/ appetizers, having a server that clearly didn’t know the menu (told my friend that she didn’t know how big the meals were cause it was up to the Chef / really?), also forgetting to give us menus for a long time.. That was a bit much. The owner was really nice & tried to jump in a few times to help speed things along but I wasn’t interested in a 2+ hrs meal for tacos and an app.. They need to get it together because combining the wait with the okay food, the price and overall experience is absurd.
I will say that they comp’d our drinks because of the whole affair so that was really nice/ helped alleviate some of the annoyance - & the gluten free fries were AMAZING! But the server clearly couldn’t handle all the tables and it kind of dragged out our night unnecessarily.
We had really high hopes for this place so maybe I’d come back on a slower night to give it another shot, but I’m not sure cause the first experience was just a bit much.
Making this reservation was meaningless - waited 25 minutes after our reservation time with no apologies from staff whatsoever. Left to dine elsewhere.
Whether you're looking to have meat, fish or vegan options, this is the place. Fresh salads, well seasoned food and great combinations, look no further.
Great food, great service. Our friend is gluten free great to see so many options and authentic Aussie dishes. Will be back soon with other friends.
Always amazing, Brunch was perfect!
I came here on a busy Saturday night a little earlier than my reservation time and we didn't have to wait long before being seated. I loved everything about this place! Had to get the Nicole cocktail (obviously) which was fresh and tasted great when made with gin. I was beyond excited about all of the gluten free options and how the server asked about allergies/was knowledgable. They also value the ingredients they serve, which you can tell when tasting everything. I got my own GF garlic bread to start with a tomato jam which is a plus. The Halloumi fries were a generous portion for an appetizer (in a good way). The GF fried chicken served with mashed potatoes & charred kale, and the pork belly with sweet fries went beyond my expectations. The desserts, made in house, were also pretty good, alongside a shot of espresso.
Great food. A little wait to get seated and after that for the food. Noise level was high.
Had high hopes for this place, but the first time was a let down. Food was ok, but took way too long to arrive. Over an hour is too long even for a crowded restaurant. What started as a pleasant date, having a drink before dinner, turned into a slow, painful build up of hanger. Last point to vent: I've had pork belly many, many times before in ramen, tacos, breakfast sandwiches, you name it. Not once have I suffered from such awful stomach pain. Something was off about that dish.
Went to thirsty koala for brunch. It far exceeding my expectations with regards to food. The fish tacos were amazing!!! Fish cooked perfectly and a combination of flavors that worked together perfectly.
I also had the steak and eggs, every cooked the exact way I asked for it and was very flavorful.
My only issue was that this place can get very very loud which particularly I’m ok with but if you’re looking for an intimate meal, going during high traffic time may not be the best idea.
Writing a review after almost a month of visiting this place. The food and the ambiance was amazing. Me and my partner, both being vegetarian did not have any issues ordering. There was pretty good options for vegetarians like us and the food was delicious.
Would love to revisit this place again.
It's a quirky spot but the proprietors are clearly focused on serving absolutely wonderful food. This restaurant was a good choice for a first date, we were able to chat and take our time. There were a couple families in the dining room celebrating events but it didn't feel too loud or cramped at all. The service was very good. They had two or three wait staff despite the restaurant not being very large, so we didn't feel neglected or anything like that.
I've been to Thirsty Koala now and always love it! The staff is super friendly and they are great with allergies.
Love this place the food the staff it is just great
The food was delicious. Super fresh ingredients. My husband and I are vegan and we really appreciated our options and enjoyed our food (chili and black bean burger).
The chili aioli was amazing with the sweet potato shoe string fries. The staff was friendly and very attentive. It was amazing having vegan options. The olive/pesto spread with the fresh bread was delicious!
They were out of the number one thing I wanted to order which is always a disappointment but what I got what's good my date was also happy with her food had a good time overall and we'll go back. Service while very friendly is also too aloof and such a small place you would think they would be more attentive
Everything was great but the service. The server never checked on us after taking our order. The drink order took 25 min to get out and the food order took another 40 min. Al with out anyone checking in on us.
When the food arrived, it was extremely tasty. I’ll try the place again maybe not on a Saturday evening.
Excellent food, and so many gluten free options! We'll definitely be back!
Koala has always been my favorite go to place for brunch! I love their brunch menu, they provide a variety of options fit for any picky individual. I have been going there for the past 3 years, the staff is always energetic, sweet and always have a smile on their face.
I love their omelet selection, and every person I have bought there always leaves feeling full and good! I'm not sure why they don't do boozy brunch but no complaints for me (their bellini is the best one I have had yet thus far)!
Until next time Koala for a weekend brunch!
Reserved for 8pm made us wait an hour and couldn’t give a time when we would be seated. Never seen that before. Was a first and last time thing.
Terrific brunch spot. The omelets are outstanding.
Could have been an off night, but service was slow and inattentive. Appetizers were good (calamari and corn fritters) but the acorn squash was unexceptional and the quinoa salad light on dressing and flavor.
Love this place. Drinks are great and so is the food.
We really enjoyed our time like we always do here! The service is superb, and so is the food. There's something on the menu for everyone. The ambience was lively on a Saturday night, and the perfect setting for a family meal, friends gathering, a date or drinks at the bar.
Definitely recommend this restaurant!
Delicious food brought out with impeccable timing. Knowledgeable courteous and fast server. Will definitely come back!
We love the food at TK. The menu has many yummy choices, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. This particular visit was on New Year's Eve with 6 people in our group. I had the fried half-chicken and it was delicious. I ended up taking some home because I couldn't finish the whole plate. The cocktails are quite fun and good -- weekday happy hour is a great deal.
Great for brunch. For dinner we waited quite a while for our food to be brought out & it was not hot. The service and servers are great though.
