    • Lady Londonderry Tea

Throughout history there has always been an association between royalty, lifestyle and tea. For example, tea's fate in Britain took a turn in 1662 when King Charles II married the Portuguese princess, Catherine Braganza. Britain's new queen was a confirmed tea drinker long before she arrived for her wedding. As part her dowry, she brought with her a chest Chinese tea. Soon, she began serving it to her aristocratic friends at Court. As word the new beverage spread, more and more people wished to try it for themselves. During this time ladies enjoyed tea at home, while gentlemen often drank their tea in the coffee houses that had been established in the City of London. Tea consumption progressed further and over time it became very fashionable in London to have afternoon tea. At these gatherings dainty sandwiches and delicate cakes were served. We can only imagine what these gatherings would have turned into had they been able to enjoy a lightly and elegantly flavored Strawberry Lemon tea. No wonder this tea is called Lady Londonderry. • Cranberry Tea

Another summer favorite that is great as a hot tea or over ice. The cranberry is known for being an intrinsic part holiday feasts, but did you know that the cranberry was first dubbed the 'crane' berry. This came about as cranes tramping through the cranberry bogs feasted on the berries. The cranberry was also known as a bounce berry, brought about by the fact that the berries 'jumped' when dropped. Likely first used as a food by Native American Indians. A tart fruit initially, but over time, this piquant taste was adapted to suit the palates the consumer. The flavor the cranberry is crisp and holds a high place in today's health values. This tea is quite refreshing to say the least! Full flavored and pungent with a saucy cranberry character. • Japan Gyokuro

Organic Gyokuru is made according to exacting specifications that date to Japan's Edo period (1603-1868). To start with, Gyokuro is produced only from hand-plucked tea grown between March and April when tea bushes flush, pushing up fresh new shoots. For the first three weeks production, the bushes are shaded with bamboo and straw, forcing the plants to produce more chlorophyll, deepening the flavor the leaf. About two weeks after the shading has been removed, the tea is plucked. Extreme care is taken to select only leaves that are smaller than one inch in size. Anything larger and the tea will lose its fragrance and pliable, tender qualities. Next, the leaves are gently bruised and lightly steam19.00ed resulting in a fine, dark leaf with pungent depth and luscious green character. Most Japanese teas are made from well handled leaves and much their elegance and style is due to the processing: steaming immediately after plucking and then air drying. Bancha or Sencha are the everyday green tea drinks Japan. The leaves to produce Bancha are generally plucked after the new season and tend to be somewhat more coarse. This however gives the tea its unique character and visual appearance. Since the leaves used to make Bancha are more coarse and contain some stalks and stems the resulting tea generally contains less caffeine or tannin then the finer grades Japanese tea. Also the cup tends to be somewhat milder. This tea has light grassy green notes with some astringency and body. Features: Tea Origin: Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. Infusion: Light, yet vibrant green.

Next, the leaves are gently bruised and lightly steamed resulting in a fine, dark leaf with pungent depth and luscious green character. This is a full flavored green tea that has a satisfying light refreshing character. Tending pleasantly vegetative with some briskness. Features: Tea Origin: Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. Just chilling with my kid. Loud kids party who took the last special scone and lemon curd was only reason not almost all 5s and waitress was leaving so less than attentive to get a 5/5, but still good.

So sorry we ran out of our scones on Sunday -- let us know the next time you are coming in and we will set one (or more) aside for you. Also, our apologies that our server had to leave before you were finished - her parents were in town and they had plans. I will ensure that someone is more attentive to you in the future. Lisa

The food was delicious! I wish the portions were bigger though. We used to have plenty of food when we ordered a meal there, but now we seem to be getting much smaller sandwiches when we order the combo. It is supposed to be a half sandwich, and it was about a fourth of a sandwich this time. The Italian Wedding Soup was amazing! I always love my pot of tea! I wish they would keep more of the treats made up. We are always wanting to buy more, and they run out every time.

Thank you for your feedback! Combo's are 1/2 a sandwich - the size of the bread depends on the type of bread, some loaves are smaller at times depending on what is available (especially the gluten free bread and sometimes the brioche). Our bakery does sell out pretty quickly, but you can ask your server if we have more sweets in the kitchen! We hope you will join us again soon. Thanks!

We love the Tea Shoppe. It’s a nice change from standard restaurants, gives a little sense of elegance in a casual atmosphere. It was very busy the day we were there, so we got missed for a while by the server, but after she took our order, service was prompt, friendly and efficient.

I have had tea there several times in the past. The food is great, tea is great and ambiance is unique. I love that they have interesting events and host children’s tea events. Even though they were very busy during lunch time I never wanted for anything and had my service out very quickly!

Visited for a romantic weekend brunch. I have been to several tea salons out of State, and this one, although a nice attempt, does not compare. The atmosphere is old, outdated, and frankly I felt more like I was at a diner than at a tea shoppe. The waitress at first was super friendly, but once we mentioned that she brought us a glass of Chardonnay instead of Cab (we don’t drink white), her attitude changed completely. She pretty much slammed the glass on the table after swapping it, quickly brought my companion’s sandwich and when he thanked her, she just quipped “Yep” before running away. We never saw her again. My companion was done eating before I ever got my royal tea which ended up being brought out by a lady (perhaps the owner?) who was wandering about the room not knowing who was missing their royal tea. We never saw our initial waitress again and had to request a box and the check at the front. This was not cheap, either. The food was OK but nothing fancy nor like I’ve had at other tea salins before. The chicken cranberry sandwich was made with processed sliced meat. The cucumber dill was OK, the tarragon chicken on croissant was very good. The sweets were just OK except for the brownie which was out of this world. The apple cider mimosa was very delicious. Disappointed. I understand the place was packed on a Sunday at noon, but still disappointing. We won’t be back.

Marion, I apologize that we did not meet your expectations. We appreciate your feedback and understanding that we were very very busy on Sunday. We, like many other small businesses, are very short staffed. That is why I was helping with the tables. Please understand that The Tea Shoppe is housed in the Seneca Center which was built in 1898 and is on the historic register. We think that is part of our unique charm. Thank you for your feedback and maybe you will try us again in the future.

Unexpected European charm in Morgantown. We had the afternoon tea which included assorted tea sandwiches, a wonderful scone served with lemon curd and cream, assorted baked sets and of course a pot of tea from an extensive list. Service was attentive and the atmosphere relaxed.

The tea service was wonderful, my 95 year old aunt and my two school-aged granddaughters had a perfectly wonderful time. The only drawback was service was slow. Food was great.
