We had a fun time at the tea house. My one complaint is that if you're going there specifically to enjoy tea, it really doesn't taste like anything. Basically, just warm water. We tried a variety of fruit and spice teas(8 different teas to be exact), and none of them had any flavor!! We let them all steep for the allotted time.
But the food is good, as well as the service. Just don't order tea!!

Although the ambience of a Teahouse and of course the service is very important it's equally important, if not more, that the food is tasty and delicious which this was not our experience today. Two of us got the Garden Tea which we did so because it included dessert which we opted to have them box up and take home right away. The Garden Tea is $5 more than the next tea down, the Los Rios tea. When I got home later and opened my piece of chocolate cake it was very thin, five bites worth and for the five extra dollars I could have gone to a grocery store with a delicious Bakery and bought a whole chocolate bundt cake for around the same price and taste. One of the guests in my party opted for the Mission tea which was $5 more than the Garden Tea because it included either a cup of soup or a salad. He opted for the salad which was nothing special whatsoever , it fit on a very small salad plate and there was nothing exceptional about it. The vinaigrette on it was good but nonetheless for $5 more than the tea below it it was definitely not worth it. Four of the five finger sandwiches were exceptionally bland which we did not bring up to each other while we were eating but on the drive home was the topic of conversation. The 5th sandwich was questionable, it was chopped ham with a Chipotle Mayo I guess. It had a very odd taste to it so we gave it a thumbs down and only one of us finished that particular finger sandwich. The scone is a nice size and in the shape of a heart but was not moist at all, very dry in fact when you would cut into it it would crumble. The location of the Teahouse is on an adorable street with a couple of cute shops and a couple of other cafes which we may try another time but will definitely not be returning to the Teahouse on Los Rios. I work too hard for my money to have thrown it away like this. Also we were sat at a table that was just a few feet from what ended to be a baby-shower and for the first 30 minutes was incredibly noisy .

This place is a gem! My mom and I have been enjoying Mother's Day at The Tea House for several years now and the service is always top notch! Each dish is plated with love and garnished with flowers from their garden and the food is always wonderful. Treat yourself to a spot of tea at this wonderful little restaurant.

A wonderful Mother-Daughter experience I enjoyed as a gift for early Mothers Day from my Katy. We have been a few times and always enjoyed. We sat outside this time, it was lovely hearing the water. Beautiful presentation on food, and everything tasted wonderful, cant wait to bring friends back.

We all have been there before and we definitely were glad to return. The four of us ordered the Bombay chicken which we all really enjoyed, although for a lunch without a salad, I thought the price was a bit steep. It did include a hefty sized scone and two kinds of tea. The server was pleasant and we had a great time. Loved walking the surrounding neighbor and butterfly park as we all enjoy gazing at God’s beautiful garden creations.

This is a great place to enjoy tea service, or a meal! Our server, Valeria, made us feel like royalty! Very professional and friendly! This place has a very open atmosphere, friendly, and NOT stuffy like I’ve heard some tea houses can be. Looking forward to returning!

It was my first visit - I took a friend for her birthday. She used to teach courses on how to set up a tea room business....she was so impressed! The place itself is set in the lovely historic Los Rios district of San Juan Capistrano - so the setting is unique and very quaint - immediately sets the tone for the experience. The tea, food, service were all exemplary! I would definitely go back and it's a wonderful place to celebrate a birthday as the nature of the experience makes you feel special!

I took relatives from out of town to lunch there on Sunday. Our reservations were for later in the afternoon originally but we finished sightseeing at Mission San Juan Capistrano earlier than expected so we called and asked if we could come earlier. The staff were very accommodating and said if we could come as soon as possible they would fit us in. They did and we had a lovely lunch. Our guests loved it. They enjoyed eating on the veranda, loved the food and tea as did we so it really worked out just great! It's the second time I and my daughter have been there. I was taken there for my 80th birthday and my daughter would like to go again for her next birthday. Thank you Tea House on Los Rios for a great experience!

The food was fantastic! We loved the scones. There were so many choices. The Chicken Tomatillo soup was perfectly seasoned. I loved the selection of teas. We ordered Darjeeling and also the first one on the menu (can't remember name). The service was great. Despite a bit of a distraction due to filming that day, the ambiance was wonderful. Still worth five stars! I can't wait to come back and bring more friends!

I've been going to the Tea House on Los Rios for a number of years now, and it's definitely a favourite place to go for a special time. This time around, we met Damien, the son of the owners, and he has taken on the business, keeping it true to the quality and charm, but updating some items, such as the inclusion of "adult beverages," and certainly really proactive outreach. It was nice to know that the deliciousness of the food, as well as the presentation you'd expect for the Tea House remains intact.

What would I recommend to a friend that hasn't been there before? Definitely get a reservation, particularly if it's a weekend. Yes, it's fun to dress up in vintage clothing and hats, but it's certainly not required to be warmly accepted there. And yes, they still have a load of fun hats you can borrow for your luncheon to channel your inner British grandmother.

Food-wise: The portions are generous. Tiny tea sandwiches alone might not fill you up, but along with the scone, the tea, and if you get the one that includes soup or salad, you'll be struggling come dessert time to fit it all in. (note: the desserts are beautifully done). The pastie is fantastic, sporting a puff pastry casing that is always consistently delicious. The salad greens are always fresh and beautifully prepared. Every dish includes the signature organically grown edible flowers from their back garden.

If you aren't sure about what tea you want to get, the staff are always knowledgeable about the characteristics of each tea, and there's a pretty good tea guide at each table. I'm a big fan of Earl Grey, and their blend does not disappoint, as it's delightfully fragrant and delicious. There's plenty to chose from, including decaffeinated options.

Go with friends, for special occasions. Go with special someones for quality time. Even go alone to recharge your battery. Leave your phone off, & be fully present to the company you're keeping. You'll be glad you did.

We made a reservation and when we came to have tea here we could not get to the venue. The entire area was shut down for an annual parade. We tried to call and no one answered. After trying to contact the restaurant for 30 minutes we gave up and went somewhere else. I would hope that if they have a reservation and know there is a parade that shuts down the entire town they would give their guests a heads up.
