The Tasting Kitchen
The menu changes daily and exemplifies our scratch kitchen philosophy, with pastas made by hand daily, meats cured in-house, produce from the local farmers market, everything made and sold the same day.
We offer handcrafted neo-classical food, epic design and atmosphere, service that is both a guide and companion throughout the experience. Come, ask questions, and enjoy.
Our experience here was pretty disappointing— mostly because of the service. Our server clearly wasn’t a fan of the food because, regardless of what you asked about, she gave you a litany of reasons why you shouldn’t order it — too salty, too this, too that. It got to the point where we were afraid to order much of anything. And when we asked for a wine recommendation to go with what we eventually did order, she kept steering us to $250 bottles. This was an ordinary dinner out on a normal night with a friend — no special occasion. I said, twice, ‘do you have a recommendation to something that would complement the order in a more reasonable range?’ The response each time was ‘well, this is what I would recommend but if you would like something for less just pick this $70 wine. ‘What do you think of the wine - could you describe it?’ Angrily: ‘well, it fits what you are looking for! It costs less!’ Yikes. The food we did order was fine. Edible. Not amazing, not bad. But the poor and tone deaf service curdled the experience. My hope is that this was a one-off from someone who had a bad day ....
What a gem. Service and food were wonderful. Bread and butter couldn’t be a better example of how close the farm is to this table.
Third time here, food is not as good as it was and way too much noise and over one hour and a half to get our main. Maybe a negative evening,
Will try again but not weekends
Good waiter. Unfortunately the kitchen really struggled. Service was slow (3 courses in 2hrs) and our food was entered incorrectly so the rabbit pasta we waited an hour for ran out. The wrong food meant for other tables was brought to us repeatedly as well. Drinks were great. I’d like to think it was just an off night for the kitchen, but all-in-all it was a disappointing experience.
Not great. BIG letdown since the last time I was there, which was admittedly a few years ago.
First, the positive - the atmosphere is very lovely.
However, once seated, we waited FOREVER for a simple cheese & meat plate. We were famished, and then it took so long for our main courses to arrive that we nearly forgot what we had ordered. The food was so-so (at best), and our server was inattentive.
We will not be coming back
We had to opt for tasting menu and while there were highlights like steak and pasta the appetizers (mussels and lentils) and desserts were extremely disappointing.
Have had better meals there before
Great food but too dark! Lighting needs to be better. You cannot see what you’re eating.
My only issue on Saturday 10/02/19 is both hostesses were brash and somewhat rude. I unfortunately will not be recommending this place. I will be sending my corporate clients elsewhere. The waiter was excellent and the food was pretty good.
Always love The Tasting Kitchen for brunch! Great service, knowledgeable staff and the food never disappoints :)
Too expensive for portion size.
Silly show off waiter
Great food and atmosphere! Definitely family style dining!
Fabulous food and atmosphere—one of our favorite brunch spots!
Microscopic portion sizes. Very over priced.
Was great as always
The chef’s choice tasting menu is an amazing value. Our wonderful server assured us that the portions were generous and I would call that an understatement. Amazing food, great service, great place
BEST. BRUNCH IN LA
Deliciousfood, great service & so much fun !
Had the three course tasting menu for our table of four. Really delicious and a lot of food! Included excellent gluten free options for one.
The food is amazing and incredibly tasty. It’s expensive though and the dishes are small.
Nice restaurant but too expensive for the food you get. The food is good, but not extraordinary to pay the prices on the menu. The service was great
Food was very disappointing
So happy to finally have had the opportunity to go to this great Venice place. We had the chef's tasting menu--5 courses of nothing but deliciousness! Each time a dish was brought out it was so interesting and tasty. What fun for five foodies. We loved it like going to a grand concert! Thank you for this wonderful evening!
Not as good as normal. Service, food and drinks. Also, not able to sit upstairs
Great little place. Busy late night mid-week. It is pretty loud, so better for smaller groups. Housemade pasta is their strong suit. And pretty decent options for vegetarians.
Very good food but small portions.
Good food and excellent service. A bit on the louder side, but all in all a very nice spot.
Great overall experience and the short rib hash and rosemary French fries were to die for. Might have to make the trek up to LA from OC sooner than later for the hash again 😋
Cool, I’ll definitely go again
I wouldn’t go there again. Food was ok, but really expensive.
We didn’t like the service, the waitress was cold and not nice. The atmosphere was nothing special. Noise level super high.
We had a table of 11 , family dinning style and the food and service was excellent. We weren't rushed and the space between courses was perfect. Overall a great experience with an only minor criticism being that the wine was a little overpriced but I guess for the location & quality its to be expected. Will definitely return :-)
Decided to order the 3 course dinner and only received a very average dinner. Only the steak was good, but that I could have gotten at any decent steakhouse. If you go to tasting kitchen and order a 3 course dinner you expect to eat something you wouldn’t be able to eat anywhere else. At least the main course. In my reservation, I notified them that it’s an anniversary dinner so I expected something less average. They should notify their guest they will only receive an average dinner if they order the 3 course menu. The dishes of the 3 course dinner is not specified on their menu. So it is absolutely on the chef who decides what dish to make for each course. Their 3 course brunch was great. I also had exceptional bone marrow for dinner or an amazing red salmon dish. They should offer an option to pay extra for an unforgettable 3 course dinner instead of a standard 3 course. A 5 course dinner would be simply too much food. I prefer less food but exceptional taste. So it matches the restaurant’s name.
The food was good as always but the service was very very very poor. Our bill was $900 but she gave us the bill of another table which was $2000. Then she never brought our packed leftovers and we had to walk into the kitchen to ask someone to search for it. Never said thank you or good bye. The worst service experience in my history of dining in Venice.
Great Food, Beautiful Atmosphere, Friendly Staff, A little Pricey
Wine ridiculously expensive.
Best restaurant ever.
We had the short rib hash and it was delicious. And the toasted bread was the best.
Bravo! One of my favorite places to eat and drink in souther California. Delicious comfort food paired with balanced wines that are expressive of grape varietal and place. And the cocktails are creative, seasonal and fun. Top the experience off with friendly, professional service and and the Tasting Kitchen is where you want to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon with family and friends.
I've been going to Tasting Kitchen for years. Something has changed, the food was not good. Had to send one item back. Ordered four items only one was good. I would only go back for drinks and ambiance.
Very creative and interesting space. Amazing craft cocktails. Interesting menu though without extensive choices. I found the food good, but not extraordinary, perhaps because of my selection. I can be a picky eater. We sat upstairs which I highly recommend if a quieter table appeals to you. Downstairs is a happening place but too frenzied for me. Service may be more difficult on second level. Bill was very high... This is more of a special meal place than every day dining.
Great attentive service and amazing food! We come for the aged Balsamic vinegar and radicchio salad but our main dishes never disappoint 👌🏻🙌🏻
