The Tasting Kitchen
The menu changes daily and exemplifies our scratch kitchen philosophy, with pastas made by hand daily, meats cured
in-house, produce from the local farmers' market, and everything made and sold the same day.
We offer handcrafted neo-classical food, epic design and atmosphere, and service that is both a guide and companion throughout the experience. Come, ask questions, and enjoy
Loved the casual, upscale vibe, delicious food and refreshing cocktails. Service was excellent. Will return again the next time we’re in LA.
Very average. Not very much choice.
Friend of mine who is a longtime Venice local said this place was overrated. I ignored him and took clients here anyway. Even they commented that the food didn't live up to the crowd or the ambiance.
Don't get me wrong the food isn't bad, everyone just expected it to be quite a bit better. Drinks were good, service was good, physical space is great. If it's busy, expect to wait in line for the bathroom.
We ordered the cheese plate - it's chintzy on crackers, but otherwise good. Salads were decent. One client stated that she didn't like hers and only ate a small amount of it. It may have had too much dressing as it was pungent from a distance. Steak, Pork, Salmon. We asked if the salmon could be cooked differently and were told it only comes one way. All of it was just "meh" especially for ~350 dollars for four people, 2 drinks each.
There are lots of better restaurants in the area, not sure why this place is so crowded all the time. Probably the ambiance and location. I think the bar in the back is popular. A man in the line for the restroom was visibly drunk and attempted to convince the woman in front of him to go into the restroom together. Way to keep it classy Abbot Kinney.
Fantastic beautiful meal. Got the tasting menu which is a wonderful present of food pearls. Had the expertly done wine pairings too. Would highly recommend.
Great place and great vibe but poor service took the 'shine' off. Our waitress was disinterested at best. She was never around and when she was she was very poor. She took half finished drinks when we were not looking. Was she working on the premise that a group in conversation did not notice?? When my husband ordered a second glass of wine - she poured a half glass of wine at the table with the end of the bottle and never came back to fill it up (never mind the fact that she poured it into the previous glass which had some wine left!!). She then gave us an incorrect bill which included multiple cocktails not consumed by us. Thankfully one of us checked it. Despite her - still a great place...
Everything about this restaurant is fantastic. One of the best and most consistent. My only complaint and it’s a big one, the acoustics are terrible. I couldn’t hear the waiter or my companion sitting two feet away from me and I have good hearing. Hopefully they will address this issue soon. Will be back
This place is very overpriced. The food would have been great if it wasn’t all over-salted.
It took a long time to get order in , but overall food was good.
Visiting LA, was looking for a nice place to catch-up which a friend. Great atmosphere, food and supper professional service.
Met expectations and did not disappoint!
I had friends in town and we were looking for something upscale and delicious and this completely fit the bill!
Absolutely incredible food and wonderful service. Only downside - the dining room was very chilly - had to keep my jacket on the whole time.
Always a special night. Great wine recommended and always amazing food.
Terrible service as usual, when will I learn?
The food/drinks/service are always great here. Definitely on the expensive side as you would expect from Abbott Kinney.
did the 5 course tasting as this was the first time trying out the restaurant. love it! but be aware that it is a LOT of food, some of the courses are multi dish, so technically it is more like an 8-9 course meal.
can't wait to go back.
Service was excellent !! Food not as good as previous visit.
I'm sure that The Tasting Kitchen doesn't need another out of this world review, but....IT REALLY IS OUT OF THIS WORLD!! Food, delicious & fresh. Service, perfect. Atmosphere, relaxing & comfortable. Please, Tasting Kitchen, stay just the way you are!!
For the vegetarian tasting menu it felt like the items were repetitive (eggs) and heavy with cheese and sauce. There was no variety with the options. We had expected more creative and healthier options .
Amazing!!! Will be back no question.
Food great, service great just too noisy for us. Look perfect for any one under 60 :-) if you can afford it. Great to see lots of young people at The Tasting Kitchen joying some wine and good food.
Brilliant meal with extraordinary service in a lovely environment.
Ambiance of the environment was beautiful. Shelves were filled with wine and books. The staff, from the front reception to the waitress to the bus boy, were all professional and polite. Their menu is a bit eclectic and my guest and I had numerous questions. However, the waitress was patient and super knowledgeable and friendly. Her recommendations on food choice were spot on. The meal was excellent. Make sure to order bread and any of their homemade pastas.
We had a really nice brunch, food & cocktails were really good ,
Nicely designed space, we’ll definitely try get back for dinner , I imagine it would be great ...
looooove this place but by 8pm they run out of most of the popular menu items ALL the time.
Amazing Service! Sat upstairs and ambiance was perfect.
Consistently good! Deliciously prepared food and yummy cocktails!
The drinks ( I recommend the tequila turmeric ginger one), food and atmosphere are fantastic.
I am mostly vegetarian, and there were a lot of good options, as well as meat dishes for my partner.
We ordered a la carte, but there is a tasting menu that I'm sure is great if you're not vegetarian.
We live in Hollywood but still love to drive out here just to come to The Tasting Kitchen! Brought my parents from England and The Exec Chef of The Mondrian for dinner and they absolutely loved every bit. Great flavors and great service with Alex.
We loved everything about our meal. Two of us were meat eaters and two of us were vegetarians, and all of us were pleased with the variety and inventiveness of the dishes. So tasty!
Everything was great...............do not pass up the bread!!!
Really nice staff, Somm was snobby about recommending wines by the glass, as all of our party doesn't drink.
Tasting menu was delicious and totally worth the price. Wine list is pretentious and overpriced.
We thought the seating hostess and manager were rude when they let our table go from our reservation when half of our group were on time and they refused to seat us when our baby caused our kids unavoidable delays. The short rib hash and sticky roll were good. Probably will not go back because of how we were treated . Others who came in behind us were seated with an incomplete party.
Last 3 times we have been there:
Food quality is poor
Expensive for price
Service: very very slow
Terrible wait between dishes
Hostess was beyond rude: told our table next time not to get up and move to new table. We were scolded as it adolescents.
So disappointed. Used to be a go to place. Food is now poor, nothing wow, expensive, slow, rude
Great food. A bit overpriced. Service was good, but not great.
Good food. Small portions and expensive for what it is.
$36 for a tiny squab served a la carte is crazy.
$14 for a side dish of mostly lentils with four small rapini.
I'm down to spend on good food. I do it all the time.
The food here is good but not remarkable relative to the price.
My son claimed that this was the best food he had ever eaten in his life. My family of 4 had the 3-course tasting menu and it exceeded my expectations.
Thought it was over priced. The food was good, not great. The portions were ridiculously small.
Excellent food and it’s one of our favorite places in Venice
Celebrated friends who recently eloped over brunch. Excellent service, amazing food and great ambience.
