   Snacks and desserts good. Mains not up to expected standard. For fish and chips, batter too light and slightly undercooked. Accompanying tartare sauce and mushy peas quite ordinary and curry sauce tasty but too thin. Day boat fish, John Dory a not worth having as only a small amount of flesh, meaning mainly skin and bone; the chef needs to select larger ones if they are going to be offered.. Chips were great. Service friendly and competent.

   Overall an enjoyable lunch. Service was charming and quick. Food was slightly disappointing given the prestige of the owner. I had the roast chicken which was tasty and moist. Roast potatoes,gravy and cauliflower cheese excellent but Yorkshire, although looking stunning, lacked flavour. Lovely pub environment. Tried the deep fried mars bar for which it is famous and that is literally what it is. Bit of fun if you have a very sweet tooth. The cheese doughnut was also interesting to try once.

   Unfortunately the tartan was not up to scratch on this visit. Service was poor, food did not meet usual standards and with the long wait for the food the whole experience was a real let down. Such a shame as previous visits have been exceptional

   Service was very good, attentive and not intrusive. Staff knowledgeable and had a great atmosphere, food was amazing, every plate was well executed and presented, my daughter loved the hash browns and caviar, overall great value for the level of service and food

   Our second time dining here this year and as per Our previous experience it didn’t disappoint Our experience met our expectations and we all thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. We look forward to the next time we visit. Thank you again

   We had fantastic evening at the Tartan Fox celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. We had the cheese donuts and black pudding bob bons which we shared, they were incredible, followed by the lamb and fish and chips, both of which were perfectly cooked and really tasty. We shared the deep fried mars bars which were presented beautifully (considering the name!) and were delicious. The ambience, music, staff were all excellent and we are glad we made the decision to go for our special occasion. Thank you

   Fantastic meal and staff were incredibly attentive without being overwhelming or intrusive. The food was exceptional quality and beautifully served, I can understand reviews saying that it is expensive, it is, but for us and for the service and quality received it’s a fair price. The beef tartare is up there in terms of cost, but one of the best I’ve tasted and absolutely must be tried.
