The Tap Room at the Mayflower Inn & Spa
We invite you to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner in a convivial, comfortable environment. With its relaxed and sociable atmosphere, The Tap Room is also an ideal place to meet for drinks with friends and acquaintances.
We are NYers with a weekend home nearby and had tried (and sworn never to return to) the main dining room in the past but had never tried the Tap Room. While much happier with the ambiance of the Tap Room, and satisfied with the food, the service level is still nowhere up to par with the price. Seems like they need more waitstaff to take orders and bus tables, and less management standing around looking concerned. Could also invest in some training - the hostess could not answer even basic questions about the resort. Overall experience was ok enough - wine quality and selection, and live pianist were the big highlights. We’ll be back but not too often.
The food was wonderful. All four of us enjoyed it very much. They were very receptive and accommodating to my husband who is Vegan. They substituted the soup and dessert very graciously. We will definitely return to dine there.
The beauty and elegance of the Mayflower setting is worth the trip for lunch or dinner. The Taproom is one of my favorite places for casual, old fashion, clubby dining. An easy menu in a beautiful bar sets the stage for an enjoyable experience. The best thing you’ll eat is not even on the menu… It’s the Parmesan bagel chips! The food is very nice: hamburgers, fresh fish, salads, etc. I’d suggest purchasing a bottle of wine rather than by the glass... you’ll spend less and drink more.! Dining at the Mayflower is not so much about the food as it is about the ambience . There are few places that are prettier than this lovely hotel and spa.
A great meal was made even better by the live piano music! That's a rare treat.
We really enjoyed our experience at the Tap Room. The atmosphere was great with the live piano music and the fire. Our service from Francesca was outstanding! We would definitely come back.
The service was impeccable. Such a peaceful, lovely place!
First visit by my best friend to my new home in Litchfield.
I haven’t been here for decades and there has been a more recent management change but this remains one of the more impressive dining options in this remote and historic part of Connecticut. This is a large, colonial era type venue which includes an inn for overnight guests as well as a spa. The Tap Room is the charming smaller, more casual option which includes a bar with limited table seating and a cozy fireplace. It features low lighting and a comfortable yet “classy” atmosphere with proper waitstaff and a decent menu of fish, steaks and pork entrees at prices that reflect the upper class appeal of the venue. This is not a cheap date destination but it is special and delivers the value of the total experience. They also have a much larger formal dining room which is elegantly decorated with subdued lighting and a fairly modern look for this historic property. Parking is on site and plentiful as the site is isolated just outside the town of Washington, CT. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals although we decided not to indulge in dessert. The wine our waitress recommended was wonderful and her service was quite friendly and professional. I had the grilled salmon as did my wife and it was cooked to perfection with a tasty white bean purée of sorts. For any special occasion or just a special night out to relax and enjoy the company of friends and family, you should enjoy The Mayflower’s Tap Room. Recommended.
I assume the waiter meant well, but was overly attentive and it seemed artificial. Otherwise a lovely evening.
The setting of the mayflower grace hotel and spa is so beautiful that dining there is worth any of the failings. Service is a bit lackluster at best, arrogant at worst. The cocktails are less than strong & the wine is a very short pour. Food is quite good. Prices are comparable to the hotel itself, that is to say high. However, the very chic locals love the tap room. All in all, the ambience, charm & energy of The Mayflower encourage a happy experience & a return visit.
Would have given all 5’s, but I am not sure I am “OK” with pets being allowed in the Tap Room. Do not think that pets should be allowed at the table for indoor seating. Seems like too nice a place to allow this.
Beautiful place and the staff are so warm and friendly. I took my daughter for a light dinner and it was very nice. Expensive though - tomato soup, Bibb salad, burger/fries, side of mac and cheese, and one glass of wine was $90 without tip.
Both the tap room and the main dining room are fantastic. The Tap room can be a little noisier when crowded but still enjoyable. The food--lunch is the same menu at both venues--is just wonderful, tasty and tastefully presented. Even the bread and butter is incredible. The servers are knowledgable and not overbearing. It's just an overall great experience. My one complaint is that while there are a few reasonably priced bottles of wine, certainly the reds are generally overpriced and for the better bottles can quickly add 75-100% on your bill. That said--have wine by the glass--and hold off on the bottles until a special occasion. You should not miss this place.
What an amazing lunch! Everything was perfect. Superlative service, delicious lunch, charming atmosphere and a relaxing time. Couldn’t have been better. It cast a special charm to a 65th birthday celebration for all of us. Thanks!
Haven’t been here in years and it was such a delight to return. Warm, welcoming and perfect ambience for a great night. Food was excellent-delectable calamari and best lobster roll I’ve had in a while (and that’s including Nantucket and every NYC lobster spot.) Our waiter, Matt, was a true professional; quietly efficient and friendly. Piano player was also a welcome accompaniment to a lovely evening with dear friends.
A very nice summer evening...
Went for just cocktails and hors d’oerves on the deck, but the service and atmosphere was so nice we stayed for dinner.
The lobster roll was an exquisite surprise!
the food was all but in-eatable. What has happened? The pasta was a large glob of sauce with pasta floating in it. We won't be back any time soon unless there is improvement.
Fantastic. Staff went out of their way. One of the best in the county
Have been coming here for years, thru several management changes...the food & service is the best it has been. It’s a real quality experience among the mediocre Connecticut restaurants. All good.. get a better piano player.
You can not go wrong here!
Great service, food, and ambiance. We celebrated our 3 year anniversary and had a wonderful experience. Definitely a gem in the heart of Litchfield county.
If you have not been you have to go.Does not matter lunch or dinner. The menu not expansive but each dish offered is prepared with skill. The wait staff is plesent and knows there stuff. The structure will take your breath away if you are a person that loves true architecture.I can not say enough good things about it.Keep up the grand work.
Great experience nothing short of what i expected. Highly recommended for have a great dinner in a fantastic atmosphere
Lovely NYE dinner. Price fix dinner tasting menu. Food was wonderful, $175 pp, price too steep.
Having a wonderful meal while listening to David's piano playing made the evening perfect!
Love everything about the Tap Room at Mayflower. Definitely Enjoyable Experience from Food to Service to Ambiance!! Enjoy ! IDo !
I am a regular in the Tap Room. Cozy and elegant. David plays piano on Fri Sat. Man, what is he doing there.....
Great steak, burger, Bibb Salad amazing. We prefer it to the main room. And we usually get our favorite table.
Well, they finally learned how to make french-fries. Still mediocre on the rest....boy what a pretend 1-star restaurant masquerading as a fine dining experience.
Very nice lunch for 4 of us. All meals were GREAT except for the lobster roll which was adequate. Will definitely visit again. The only downside to the visit was the open door to another room which had a loud "business meeting" going on.
Special date night, we were looking for a new place. Were able to get a table at our desired time. Had a great, special dinner. Peter and Tess (and others!) served us in a attentive, bit unobtrusive way. We were kindly seated next to a fireplace and they lit it for us. The meal was delicious (the deviled eggs were the only disappointment, they were a little bland), I got the Bolognese and my sweetie got the short ribs. We ordered some creative cocktails and the bartender was able to deliver. The desserts were delicious. Great evening!!
The service was amazing - Orlando was very attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good and the cheesecake was to die for!
Everything was perfect. Setting was magnificent. Elegant for a " tap room". Servers were excellent, delicious food, definitely not standard pub fare!
Can't wait to return.
If you order two things, and the waiter only brings one, with apologies that he forgot the other item, and you wait 30 minutes to complete your dinner....does that make it a fine dining experience? I can get better service at a MacDonalds drive-through. Sad.
If you order the Burger (which is the only good thing on the menu), and ask for side salad instead of fries, the waiter is adamant and gives you attitude. NO SUBSTITUTIONS!
Seriously a 2-star restaurant, and untrained waiters pretending it's a better venue than it is.
Outside dining was perfect. Our waitress was attentive and very careful to check on ingredients to avoid food allergies and generated an order of gluten free toasted bread, without being asked. It was a lovely dinner and I highly recommend it for a special evening, especially for visitors outside the area.
The food was delicious, the service very attentive and respectful, and the scenery lovely. The reason I would not recommend this as a location for a meal is entirely due to the price being astronomically high. A single alcoholic beverage in a narrow flute-like cup should not be $18. Our lunch bill of 1 alcoholic beverage, 1 starter, 1 salad, and 1 sandwich was $120. Although the food was delicious and the scenery picturesque, the price cannot be justified in my mind and we will not be returning.
The food has marginally improved to become mediocre, instead of inedible. Servers are new every week, and have no clue about their responsibilities and abilities to provide even a second class din9ng experience. There appears to be zero training or onsite management of the restaurant and bar. Good luck!
Food is amazing and place is cozy and elegant. My spoiled NYC sons said it was the best meal they ever had.
